Other than episode reviews and general squee about SG-1, the contents of this journal generally fall into one of three categories: fic recs, meta, and my own fic.

(Some links lead to Dreamwidth. Others lead to LJ.)

So [personal profile] ratcreature is offering drawbles (a drabble-like drawing), and I asked for Teal'c meeting the avatar of Ratcreature as a Furling. And I got this! :D

Ratcreature as Furlings

Does that make you squee or what? :D

[personal profile] ratcreature has also treated me to another drawble in the past, a quick illustration of a rather cracky ficlet of mine. You can find it here.

Good grief, I did not post a monthly review all year. Probably because there wasn't much to review, sigh.

So, 2016:

29 recs, which you can browse on the first two pages of [personal profile] figs_sg1_rec. That brings to 1,044 in just over ten years - yes, that was a milestone for this year: ten years of reccing, as of April 1st, 2016. I celebrated, so to speak, by highlighting some (but certainly not all!) of the best over the years. You can browse through some 110 recs with the ten years of reccing tag.

Two Alphabet Soups, Epistolary and Kidfic. Good thing, too, because I probably wouldn't have written anything otherwise. Here's what I did write:

Lost Letters. Letters don't always survive long enough to be read. References/spoilers for Secrets, Fair Game, and Forever in a Day; includes references to Daniel/Sha're. 1,330 words. Rated PG.

Camouflage. Appearances can be deceiving, as the team knows all too well. Includes some unexpected Jack angst. ~1,200 words. PG.

T is for Teal'c. Few people expect the former First Prime to be so good with children, but SG-1 knows that Teal'c has vast and unexpected depths. A Daniel retrospective on a friend. References various episodes throughout the series (mostly those with kids). 1,710 words. Rated PG.

O is for Other Perspectives. Five times SG-1 had to accept an unusual perspective of childhood and adulthood. Jack POV, set in Seasons 1 & 2. Includes detailed spoilers for Brief Candle, the Nox, and Thor's Chariot. 2,250 words. Rated PG-13 for certain details involving Brief Candle.

Z is for Zen. Last-minute contribution to Kidfic Alphabet Soup. Baby Shifu has a limited comprehension of what's happening to him. Vague references to Secrets, FIAD, and Maternal Instinct. 262 words. Rated G.

I have hopes for 2017, though, as I've signed up for [community profile] stargate_summer and it's high time for another round of [community profile] sg1friendathon...

So here's to more fic, more recs, and more SG-1 squee. :)

Here we are: the last installment of my celebration of a decade's worth of gen fic recs. There were over 1,000 recs during that time, and while I certainly slowed down this past year, there are still lots more stories out there!

Follow the tags if you missed previous installments. I have still managed to avoid reccing an author more than once in this series, although if someone uses more than one penname, they might have slipped through the cracks.

Triggers, by Vicki Turner )

Five secrets Teal'c knows about his teammates, by le russe satan )

Hail Dorothy, by Elumish )

Even in Space, it's the Thought that Counts, by SallyMn )

Storm Front, by Tielan )

(Im)patient, by Green_grrl )

Threads of Earth, by Xylaria )

Directly Proportional, by Denise )

Ready When You Get Back, by Campylobacter )

Won't Feel So Alone, by Epiphanyx7 )

...And here we are. A decade of recs, featuring over 100 different authors. And there are many more that didn't get mentioned, despite deserving it.

It's been an interesting journey, over these past ten years' worth of recs. It's amusing to see how ridiculously verbose I was, back at the beginning, before I learned to dangle and tempt rather than summarize. But it's a journey I'm glad I took, and I'm happy, too, I was able to take so many of you along with me.

Many, many thanks to all the writers out there. You keep writing; I'll keep reccing. :)

Welcome to the ninth installment of my celebration of ten years of reccing! As I keep saying, this is getting harder and harder: avoiding authors I've recced before, when there are already over 90 that have been cited in previous installments. I would browse the archive and light upon a particular fic, then check back and see the author has been mentioned before... The first two months only had one rec that wasn't from an author I've recced already! It doesn't help that it was around this point when my reccing frequency slowed down, either. But here we are. :) Follow the tag if you missed any of the first eight years.

Those Who Give the Most, by Annieb )

Four Last Five Things, by Sid )

The Trouble With..., by Zorb )

I Know You Are But What Am I? by Busaikko )

Angle of Incidents, by Belford )

V is for Vaselov, by Gategremlyn )

H is for Holding On, by JDJunkie )

Y is for Yearning, by Dennydj )

Days in a Month, by Eilidh )

Out There, by Ami Ven )

2014 was the year of lots and lots of short fics for me. Here are the links to a few of them:

For Want of a Symbiote (the World was Lost). Sam's choices in In the Line of Duty had tremendous impact on the universe. 464 words. Rated PG, with multiple AU deaths and apocalyptic histories, and spoilers for various S2 through S6 episodes.

X is for Unknown. A tag for 1969 for Episode Alphabet Soup. When SG-1 returns to their own time, they try to find out what happened to Michael and Jenny. Rated G.

One Minute to Curtain. Jack will do his duty, even if he hates playing the game. Jack's thoughts on his team in Shades of Grey. 555 words, rated PG.

One year left to complete a decade of reccing! Is this fandom awesome or what? :D

Welcome to the eighth installment of my celebration of ten years of reccing. Follow the tag if you missed previous years. Lots of Cassie fic recced during these twelve months!

Decade, by Nomad )

Wherever She Prospers, by Mrspollifax )

H is for Hair, by Cleo )

Depth Perception, by Jb )

Nobody Dies Tonight, by Isawet )

Untitled Ficlet, by KiaraSayre )

The Footprints I Left Behind, by Normative Jean )

Catch a Breath, by Frith in Thorns )

Connections, by Magickmoons )

An Immense Distance, by Kedd )

My writing dropped drastically, but here are links to two stories:

Left Unspoken. ~1,850 words. PG. Five things Jack and Daniel never told anyone about their first trip through the Stargate. Includes references to Shades of Grey and Meridian.

Crossing the Line. ~1,200 words. PG. Ra may have punished Nagada, but Sha'uri isn't ready to abandon her newfound knowledge just yet. An expanded scene from Stargate: the Movie, and the third part of the Lines series.

Maybe I will finish before the end of the month! Here's the seventh installment of my celebration of ten years of reccing. Follow the tag if you missed previous years.

I had to skip over so many stories because I've already recced that author before in these posts, and a few more that I skipped because I'm saving a particular fic from that author from later years. But here are ten wonderful stories that I recced in my seventh year of reccing.

Only Held by Gravity, by missparker )

Alchemy, by Melannen )

In the Cards, by Eponymous Rose )

Five Lies Sha're Told, by Smilebackwards )

A Halfway Moment, by Fridayschild )

One Such Possible Journey, by Jedibuttercup )

Cheating the Other Guy, by Sholio )

Scuttlebutt Says, by Element78 )

U is for Unspoken, by Thothmes )

Five Things Jack Loved and Lost, by Chocolate Kettle )

2012 is when my fic writing began to slow down. There's a drabble series that still isn't finished, sigh. But here are a few stories I wrote:

O is for Optimism. Cam has always been an optimist; it's kept him going for a long time now. But sometimes, he needs a little proof. Major spoilers for Continuum, including AU canon character deaths, and a certain episode in S2. 1,290 words. Rated PG.

V is for Victuals. Aliens, civilians, military personnel -- they all need feeding. That's Sophie's job, and she's proud to do it. No real spoilers. 510 words. Rated G.

Welcome to the sixth installment of my tenth anniversary reccing posts! Follow the tag if you've missed the previous entries. And yes, I am deluded enough to fantasize that I'll finish these by the end of the month...

Lots of Daniel here, natch, and a nice amount of Jonas, too. It's getting harder and harder to avoid multiple recs of the same author.

Whom the Gods Would Destroy, by Graculus )

They're Waiting All the Same..., by Beanpot )

Elementariness, by Kellifer )

Now is the Winter, by Vixys )

The Circumference of Darkness, by Dani the Girl )

These Are Gold, by Izhilzha )

Bead Sutra, by Magistrate )

In Its Truest Form, by Stringertheory )

Sound, by Cyren )

The Stars Up Above You Feel Wrong, by Dragojustine )

I wrote 21 stories in 2011 - less than in 2010, but longer ones for a greater wordcount. Here are links to three of them, one humorous and two dramatic:

For All Your Beauty Needs. Sam and her boys, on a matriarchal planet that's not as much fun as it ought to be. Teal'c pwnage, Daniel eyelash fluttering, and Sam stalking Jack with a powder puff. No, not crackfic!

Pawns' Promotion. My first non-canon AU story! The NID think Sam and Sha're would make fine experimental subjects. Sam and Sha're have other ideas.

Canis Major. Teal'c and Daniel friendship, with an unusual native who needs convincing that "Jaffa" does not always equal "evil."

Remember, I welcome more gen recs in the comments, whether it's another author's story or your own.

I've dealt with any errors that were reported by various authors, and the Table of Contents are now up: on LJ and on DW. Whee!

If you're signal-boosting, direct people to one of the TOCs, please. And authors, please edit your stories to include links to the TOC as well.

I will ask everyone again to quickly check out their own fic: ensure that the TOC and the feedback links in the anthology go to link you want and that I haven't messed up any of the HTML anywhere.

A few interesting statistics:

Stories range in length from 200 words to over 15,000.

We have all sorts of kidfic flavors: nine "downsizing" stories, seven pre-series of team members are children, four fics of the team dealing with children, and five fics told from the perspective of children (ranging from Cassie to Shifu to Adria to kid!Tok'ra). Also, one of mine that doesn't actually fit into any category. ;) I am really happy that we got such a variety!

Once again, my thanks to all the participants. I do regret that we only managed 19 authors in total, which meant that many of us ended up writing multiple stories (very, very much appreciated!), but YAY for moar gen fic. Let's hope that the next Soup, in 2017, will see more authors joining in the squee! :D

My thanks to the authors who made Kidfic Alphabet Soup a reality: Alynt, Antonomasia09, Ami Ven, Annieb1955, Badfalcon, Eilidh, DebbieF, Fig Newton, GateGremlyn, Goddess 47, Ivorygates, Jedi Buttercup, Maddersahatter, Roeskva, SallyM, Thothmes, Traycer, and Wonderland. A salute of the ladle to our new cooks, [profile] ami_ven and DebbieF. A tip of the chef's hat to our regulars. And many extra thanks to Eilidh, Goddess47, and Wonderland, who wrote multiple fics and helped the Soup cook completely!

Enjoy some 55,000 words of kidfic! There's everything here from "downsizing" to pre-series stories to the team's interaction with children to child POV. Stories are rated from G to PG-13. Assume spoilers throughout the entire series, and heed individual warnings.

This table of contents lists each individual story in the anthology with a detailed summary and excerpt. You can follow the links to the individual author's website, or jump to that story in the complete anthology.

Readers are encouraged to offer feedback!

Okay, folks, Kidfic Alphabet Soup is live!

Letters A-M are here. Letters N-Z are here.

The TOC is going to have to wait until Sunday, as Shabbos is coming and there's no time to finish the coding. Please ignore all the TOC links, as they're blank for now.

Authors, please glance over your stories. See if I messed up your HTML or lost a paragraph or anything. Comment if you find any problems, misdirected links to your own journal/website, or I've used the wrong nick. I have even, on occasion, accidentally left a name out of the authors' list, so check that too. If you were a new author and that's no acknowledge, please point that out as well. Or anything else you can think of, really! And please be patient, as I won't be seeing your replies here for some 30 hours.

Thanks, all of you. :)

Keeping you all up to date:

One Soup fic has been delayed by RL, but the author has been in touch and assures me she'll get it done ASAP. She's a very seasoned cook :) and I know we can count on her.

One author, who had Z, has to back out.

One author, who had J, has not responded. J has been written now, yay!

If you are interested in dashing off a drabble or so of gen kidfic, write your story first and then comment here to claim the letter. I promise I won't complain if we end up with one or two extra!

Thank you all for your patience.

With many, many thanks to those of you who got your stories up on time... :)

Twenty Kidfic Alphabet Soup fics are up. Two more authors have been in touch to tell me their stories should be up shortly. The other four have been e-mailed or PM'd and will hopefully get back to me sooner rather than later.

After that, coding time!

In the meantime, feel free to comment here or at the official SG-1 Gen Fic Day entry with links to old and new fics or recs, whether or not they're kidfic. Just make sure they're gen. ;)

Backup contribution to Kidfic Alphabet Soup! Also, I believe this is the first time I have actually had Jack use a certain expression. It certainly seemed to fit this time.

A contribution to Kidfic Alphabet Soup. As usual, Daniel took control and went in unexpected directions. He's good at that. :) This came out as much meta-ish as fic-ish, I think.

Summary: Few people expect the former First Prime to be so good with children, but SG-1 knows that Teal'c has vast and unexpected depths. A Daniel retrospective on a friend. References various episodes throughout the series (mostly those with kids). 1,710 words. Rated PG.

Happy SG-1 Gen Fic Day, everybody!

Comment below with links to new fic, older fic, flashfic, recs, self-recs, meta, picspam, icons, vids, and general squee - anything at all, as long as it's gen and related to SG-1.

The theme of the day is kidfic, including a piping-hot serving of Kidfic Alphabet Soup (perfect for late November!), but any gen work that isn't kidfic is more than welcomed, too.

Soup authors, this is where you should leave a link to your story. If you haven't yet sent me a copy of your story and your TOC entry, please do so.

We are still missing a few letters of Soup, so if you feel like dashing off at least 100 words of gen kidfic (in any definition thereof), comment below for that, too, and I will happily PM you a letter.

Here's to kids. And kidfic. And fic. And gen. And SG-1. :D
