Happy SG-1 Gen Fic Day, everybody!

Comment below with links to new fic, older fic, flashfic, recs, self-recs, meta, picspam, icons, vids, and general squee - anything at all, as long as it's gen and related to SG-1.

The theme of the day is kidfic, including a piping-hot serving of Kidfic Alphabet Soup (perfect for late November!), but any gen work that isn't kidfic is more than welcomed, too.

Soup authors, this is where you should leave a link to your story. If you haven't yet sent me a copy of your story and your TOC entry, please do so.

We are still missing a few letters of Soup, so if you feel like dashing off at least 100 words of gen kidfic (in any definition thereof), comment below for that, too, and I will happily PM you a letter.

Here's to kids. And kidfic. And fic. And gen. And SG-1. :D

Tomorrow we will be celebrating SG-1 Gen Fic Day, complete with Kidfic Alphabet Soup!

Well, I say "complete," but we are a few authors short. So if you feel like dashing off at least 100 words of gen kidfic for tomorrow (or the day after), please comment either at LJ or DW to get a letter.

If you are a Soup author and never got your letter, or if you already sent me your story and I have not replied to acknowledge receipt, please let me know IMMEDIATELY. Thanks!

Happy SG-1 Gen Fic Day!

Not sure what I'm talking about? Take a look at previous round-ups for Gen Fic Days and Alphabet Soups.

Comment here with links to new fic, older fic, recs, meta, picspam, icons, vids - anything, as long as it's gen and related to SG-1. Shameless self-promotion is cheerfully encouraged! The theme of the day is epistolary, although fanworks can involve any subject.

If you're an Epistolary Alphabet Soup contributor, this is where you post links to your story. If you're unsure of procedure, please take a quick look here. Don't forget to e-mail me a copy of the story and a filled-out TOC entry, too.

On Tuesday (or Wednesday, depending), I'll post a round-up of all links and (hopefully) the complete anthology of Epistolary Alphabet Soup, although that might take an extra day or two.

If you missed the opportunity to contribute and you'd like to join in the fun, there are still some letters left to claim. Go here to snag a letter. And if you're not an epistolary fan, any new ficlet you care to submit will be happily welcomed as part of general Gen Fic Day, too!

Pirates of Penance jokes aside, we go live on February 29th with SG-1 Gen Fic Day and Epistolary Alphabet Soup! I've already gotten a few entries (THANK YOU) and I eagerly await the rest. Remember to send me a copy of your story (text with HTML tags is easiest for me, but any format will do) and your template for the table of contents. You can read the details here.

As of today, we are sadly still three letters short for a complete Soup. So if you've ever had vague thoughts of writing at least 100 words of epistolary gen fic, seize the moment! And if you'd like to write but don't care for epistolary mode, any fic will be welcome on Gen Fic Day, so as long as it's gen and related to SG-1. :)

Here's the roundup for July's SG-1 Gen Fic Day!

First, Off-World Alphabet Soup: the complete anthology and table of contents are both coded already, although I'm not finished checking my HTML. I am still waiting to get a single reply to a question from one author, and then we can post. I'll update this entry as soon as the anthology goes up, and again when the TOC is up (I can't finish coding until I know what the URL for the Soup will be!)

We got some nice links to older fics and vids. Some were recs; others were self-recs (which are always, always welcome). They're listed here as they were posted.

vid links )

Now for the links to older fics!

older fic links )

Off-World Alphabet Soup is up! Here's the link to the table of contents.

Many, many thanks to all who participated! This was a fun one. We'll have to do it again soon! :D

We're waiting for only a few more stories. I am harbouring fantasies of actually having Off-World Alphabet Soup up by the end of today. We'll see. :)

In the meantime, I must confess to being just a tad disappointed that no one took the opportunity to link to a favorite story, whether their own or another author's. With this hopefully short wait to complete the Soup, I'm extending Gen Fic Day for a little longer. How about it, people? Drop me a comment, either here or at the original Gen Fic Day entry, with a link to an old story of yours and/or a rec for a favorite fic, vid, meta, whatever. Or both!

Comment here with links to new fic, older fic, recs, meta, picspam, icons, vids - anything, as long as it's gen and related to SG-1. Shameless self-promotion is cheerfully encouraged! The theme of the day is off-world, although fanworks can involve any subject.

This fandom is awesome. Let's prove it, shall we? :)

Some somber RL events will keep me AFK for the next several hours, but I'll be back online by mid-morning EST. I look forward to an in-box filled with gen squee.

Tomorrow is SG-1 Gen Fic Day! Get ready to post links to new fic, older fic, recs, picspam, meta, vids - anything goes, as long as it's gen and related to SG-1.

Soup authors, don't forget to 1. comment at the Gen Fic Day post with your link 2. send me a copy of your story and 3. send me the template. If you're sending it to me today, before your story goes live, I'll fill in the URL myself. For those of you archiving your fics on AO3, there is an SG-1 Alphabet Soup collection that is open and unmoderated. Feel free to add your stories there as well.

If you've got any questions or comments, now's the time! And if you can't get your Soup done, please do let me know immediately.

We're only three fics short of our complete recipe for Time Travel Alphabet Soup (thanks to two lovely backup writers), so I hope that by Wednesday morning my time, I'll be able to post the complete anthology. On the bright side, everything else is coded, and apparently there are no missing quotation marks or extraneous spaces anywhere to savage my HTML, so it shouldn't take too long once we have all the fics in hand!

Edit: here's the link for Time Travel Alphabet Soup!

In the meanwhile, there are lots and lots of links to older stories with a time travel theme. They're all below the cut, a mix of recs and self-links. I've divided them up, more or less, by episode. All are rated between G and PG-13, and all are gen. :)

Time travel fics ahoy! )

I'll edit this post to include the link to the Soup anthology when it goes up, but in the meantime, enjoy all these great reads! And many, many thanks to everyone who participated.

If you're linking to an older fic that's time-travel related, whether it's your own or a rec of someone else's, please note if it's connected to a specific canon time travel incident (1969, WoO, Moebius, Continuum, etc). In the roundup, I plan to arrange those links by episode. If the story isn't based on canon time travel, do be sure to link to it anyway. :)

Here's to SG-1 squee! A decade since the end of canon, and here we still are. :)

Many thanks to everyone who participated in Gen Fic Day!

We're still missing several of the letters from Alphabet Soup. I know one should be up shortly, and we have one backup waiting in the wings. I've written to all the missing cooks; hopefully I'll get a response soon. Whatever I have is already coded for the anthology, so I hope to be able to post the complete Soup shortly after I get the rest of the fics.

Edit: Friendship Alphabet Soup is ready to serve! You can read over 57,000 of great friendship fics over here.

Here are the links and recs that aren't Soup related:

Muh Jell-O, by [personal profile] campylobacter. That awkward feeling when you walk into the wrong diner... A tag for Holiday.

Those Who Wait, by [personal profile] stringertheory. Waiting is always the hardest part. Teal'c and Janet friendship.

[personal profile] lolmac linked to LOLMac commentfic/crackfic, a series of gen ficlets inspired by hilarious captions. Most are by [profile] zeilfanaat or [personal profile] thothmes, with a few others added to the mix.

[personal profile] lightbird linked to Julie's Q is for Questionnaire (aka I Am Aware of All Internet Traditions). Teal'c, Cassie, and Daniel. Tumblr is nothing like Twitter.

For lots more friendship fic, browse the [community profile] sg1friendathon links: 2013 master list, 2013 Ficathon Frenzy, 2011 master list, 2011 Ficathon Frenzy, 2008 master list.

Twenty years since the movie first aired and we're still going strong. SG-1, we salute you. :)

Here's the roundup for SG-1 Gen Fic Day!

We had Episode Alphabet Soup, which still awaits two contributions before it can be posted in full is now posted. Over 42,000 delicious words of episode-based gen fic!

Other than that, there were two new fics posted:

They Don't Come Back, by Eilidh. Missing scene from Fallen: a quiet moment between Jack and Reynolds.

On the Outside, Looking In (Season Eight), by your gen enabler. :). A drabble from an outsider's POV for every S8 episode.

Then there's the list of episode-related recs, copied here as they were originally posted:

You Can't Always Get What You Want, by Betacandy. PG-13, and the ultimate Moebius fix!

Numerology is probably my all-time favorite Random fic. It's a study of Jack, doing a study of Daniel, within the context of the ten failures who tried to join SG-1 before Jonas made the team. PG-13.

Son of Endless Sky is an absolutely stunning outsider POV of just!descended!Daniel, who needs to be anchored to reality. PG.

Minervacat's Look to the Heavens and Number the Stars is a wonderful outsider perspective of the SGC. C'mon, the SGC's librarian. Can you resist that? :) PG-13.

Everything is a Transition by Neovenus follows Izzy Satterfield from the events in Proving Ground and onwards. Lovely characterization, PG.

Determination and Determination: Practicality are outtakes of an AU COTG in which Daniel is taken, rather Sha're, and she fights her way into acknowledgment at the SGC. PG, references Daniel/Sha're.

Another great Sha're AU is Magistrate's Of Dreams and Desperations, in which Sam confronts Amaunet in FIAD instead of Daniel and is taken prisoner. PG-13.

And Tafkar's is probably the ultimate Sha're AU: One Dimension Removed, which rewrites the entire first season with Sha're as part of SG-1. PG-13/R, and heed the warnings for certain chapters.

That's it for this Gen Fic Day! My warmest thanks to everyone who participated. Here's to lots more gen squee!

Here's the round-up for February's SG-1 Gen Fic Day!

New fic:
We had the On-world Alphabet Soup, which is fully coded and waiting the last three entries. My sincere apologies to all those of you who got your stories submitted on time; I wish this delay wasn't necessary. The entry can be posted literally within minutes of my receiving these outstanding letters. For the record, we are currently at over 43,000 words. Whew. :)

Edit: On-world Alphabet Soup is now live!

[personal profile] sg_wonderland wrote a non-Soup fic for the occasion: One Crowded Hour. Old skool SG-1!

Older fic: I linked to several older on-world fics of my own:

SG-1, Ninja Style. Team. Teal’c. Ninjas!

U is for Undomesticated Equines. Jack and Teal'c take a side trip on the way home from Billings, Montana.

Something Smoother. If you're going to drown your frustrations in alcohol, you might as well drink something worthwhile. Jack and Bra'tac, in a missing scene from Sacrifices in S8.

Well Met at Midnight. Jonas Quinn dreams of Daniel Jackson, or maybe he doesn't. A little bit of angst set just before Redemption.

Pawns' Promotion. The NID think Sam and Sha're would make fine experimental subjects. Sam and Sha're have other ideas. Set in late S2, after an AU Secrets in which Sha're makes it safely back to Earth and is freed by Thor's Hammer on Cimmeria.

And here's one from Suzannemarie: Intersecting Leaps. Sam Becket leaps into Sam Carter (and SG-1's) leap into 1969.

Vids: [personal profile] wyomingnot linked to Jack Feels Fine, set to "It's the End of the World As We Know It (and I feel fine).

Recs: A Circle of One's Own, by Jonah in the Whale. Gorgeous teamy character piece, with an emphasis on Jack and Daniel friendship, with a strong dash of humor. PG.

A Vacation at Jack's Place, by Oughtaknowbetter. Delightfully competent team tracking down a Goa'uld in Minnesota, complete with gratuitous (but admittedly fun) Daniel whumpage.

The Only Winning Move, by Synecdochic. I adore competence. This SGC wargames romp has it in spades.

Five People (or Beings) Who Inhabit the SGC is exactly what it says on the tin and hugely enjoyable.

Eroding Away the Mountains by Abyssis is one of my all-time favorite Sam and Daniel friendship stories.

Magistrate's Ya Vas Lyubil is another beautiful Sam and Daniel friendship story, pensive and intelligent.

Sealie's Happy Barbecuing is absolutely plotless teamy goodness JOY.

Bad Pennies, by Salieri, is a priceless MacGuyver crossover.

Surreallis gives us the team and very bad hockey in the gleeful Face-off.

My thanks to all of you who participated! I'll edit this entry to include the link to the Soup as soon as it's posted.

Here's to more gen squee! :D

As I've had multiple notices of delays in posting various letters, SG-1 Gen Fic Day has been extended through Tuesday. Hopefully, by Wednesday morning, we'll have received all 26 letters.

Both C and Y needed pinch hitters, and thanks to thothmes and ivorygates for stepping up for us! :D

For those of you who have already posted your letters, or for those of you who want to otherwise participate, there have been very few links to older fic or recs (and new, non-Soup fics would not go amiss, either...)

Comment here, or at yesterday's post, with links to Soup fics, new fic, older fics (aka "shameless self-promotion"), recs, meta, picspam - anything at all, as long as it's gen and related to SG-1.

I've just been informed that our letter C for On-world Alphabet Soup has gone missing. I am offering C to anyone who wishes to write at least 100 words on on-world fic, whether or not you've already written a story for this Soup. And, of course, don't forget that any SG-1 gen fic (or rec, or picspam, or meta) is more than welcome for Gen Fic Day, whether it's new or not. :)

Edit: our C has been filled, whee!
