Here's the list of recs for December:

The Knife's Edge of Madness, by Strix Varia (PG-13) (Sam)

Triggers, by Vicki Turner (PG) (various)

Home for the Holidays, by Tallulah Rasa (G) (Jack and Daniel)

And Leaves the World to Darkness, by Tarimanveri (PG-13) (Sam and Daniel)

~insert usual encouragement to sign up to rec for stargateficrec here~

...and that's it for the month. Sigh for all my plans to actually, y'know, write something.

moping for missing mojo )

I will not bother trying to go into further detail, but will only hope that some of those WIPs get completed, we'll write more Soups and have another round of the [community profile] sg1friendathon, and that I'll continue to enjoy the friendships and squee in our friendly little corner of the SG-1 fandom. Thanks, guys. :)

Previous yearly reviews: 2014, 2013, 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009, 2008, 2007.

Here's the very quick roundup from the last two months:

We celebrated SG-1 Gen Fic Day, with Off-World Alphabet Soup. In case you missed it, I've created a poll over at LJ (sorry, I can't created one here) regarding the new format for the Soups (the table of contents) and some questions regarding our next one. I'd love to have you all participate.

My own contribution to the Soup was X is for Xenolalia. The problem with amnesia is that memories aren't always in context. Missing scene from Fallen in Sam POV as the team tries to deal with Daniel's self-doubt. ~ 2,100 words. Rated PG.

I offered timestamps, but no one seemed interested in prompting any. The offer still stands, though.

I did my usual four-per-month in the rec department. (Ah, for the days when I didn't blink at a dozen!) You all know the drill by now: they were recced at [livejournal.com profile] stargateficrec and archived at [personal profile] figs_sg1_rec. The master list of fic recs is updated through May. I'll get these last few months done some time, I suppose.

Here are the recs:

eight recs under the cut )

~insert usual encouragement to sign up to rec for stargateficrec here~ As of this posting, there are only SGA reccers signed up. SG-1 needs love, gen or not. :)

BTW, I am now poised at the cusp of quadruple digits. Yes, I have recced 999 (!) fics since 2006. Yowza.

Which fic shall be the thousandth, I wonder? Any suggestions? ;)

Off-world Aphabet Soup is happening! I anticipate that it will be fun. :) And, as always, we've got a few new cooks: Carlinjona (I think!), Solstice Winter, and Svana Vrika. Welcome to the kitchen!

I only had a chance to rec four fics this month:

Bedtime Stories, by Lilyleia (G) (Sam, team)

Threads of Earth, by Xylaria (G) (Cassie, Janet)

(Im)patient, by Green_grrl (PG-13) (Jack, Daniel)

Just a Little Pocket Change, by Thothmes (PG) (Jack, Teal'c)

~insert usual encouragement to sign up to rec for stargateficrec here~

No new fic this month. Naturally. OTOH, soup fic next month! And it's such a joy to see so much SG-1 fannish activity right now, even if it's not nec'ly in my own personal fandom corner.

Hey, I thought about writing!

Sigh.

Here are the recs for May. You all know the drill by now: they were recced at [livejournal.com profile] stargateficrec and archived at [personal profile] figs_sg1_rec. The master list of fic recs is amazingly up-to-date.

Boom Boom, Boom Boom, by Stringertheory (PG) - team, humor

Soul May Look and Body Touch, by Katie M (PG-13) - Jack and Daniel friendship, ep related, angst

What Would Walter Do? by Gategremlyn - Walter the Chevron Guy, team, Hammond, time travel

Q is for Questing - Janet, team, drama, time travel

An I for an I, by Paian (G) - Teal'c, character study

Directly Proportional, by Denise (PG) - Siler, Sam, humor

Good grief. I'm 15 fics away from exceeding Scheherazade's count. I've often vaguely wondered if that should serve as a stopping point.

The J/D ficathon seems to be consuming most of the summer. Any suggestions of when we can squeeze in another Alphabet Soup?

I want my writing mojo back. NOW, PLEASE.

Four recs in April, plus the four I did in March that never got properly linked:

Time Share, by Kalquessa (G) - Jack, mini!Jack

Sing Me Your Songs of Joyous Wonder, by Karen T (G) - humorous S6 team

The Only Constant, by Tallulah Rasa (G) - team

Checking Up, by SG Betty (PG) - Daniel, mini!Jack

Won't Feel So Alone, by Epiphanyx7 (PG-13) - Daniel, Jack, Charlie

Ready When You Get Back, by Campylobacter (PG) - Daniel, Nick

Countdown, Causality, and Close Enough, by Ivorygates (PG-13) - Cassie

Q is for Quintessential, by Tallulah Rasa (PG) - Daniel, Oma

Huh. Lots of Daniel, in retrospect. Hardly surprising, I suppose. :)

~insert regular encouragement to sign up to rec at stargateficrec here, especially as there are only two reccers so far for next month and neither is for SG-1~

Meanwhile, I'll still be right here, loving SG-1 and wishing I could write about them.

Good grief, I can't remember the last time I had such a long fic-writing dry spell. Two months now! Happily, next week's Alphabet Soup will change that. :) Happiness is Soup fics nestled snugly in my inbox!

At least I managed five recs this month. You all know the drill by now: they were recced at [livejournal.com profile] stargateficrec and archived at [personal profile] figs_sg1_rec. The master list of fic recs is updated through last month, so look below the cut for this month's:

So much for my hopes that this year would be more productive - I didn't write a single word of fic in January. But, um, I reread some WIPs. And thought about them. That counts for something, right?

Time Travel Alphabet Soup! Which is... lagging sadly behind, in some rather sour irony. We're still several letters short of a full Soup, and this from a theme that I really expected to be popular. Perhaps the fandom has moved on too much for this kind of thing? Convince I'm wrong, please! :) You can sign up to write 100 words of SG-1 gen fic with the theme of time travel over here.

At least I got some nice reccing in. And good grief, the last time I updated the Master List of Fic Recs was back in September. All caught up now, yay! You all know the drill by now: they were recced at stargateficrec and archived at [personal profile] figs_sg1_rec.

One of the Guys, by MidKnightRider (PG) - Sam, friendship, team

X-rays, by Aelfgyfu (G) - Sam and Janet friendship, Cassie

Uninhabited Planets, by Magickmoons (PG) - Cam and Vala friendship, hurt/comfort

Not the Same, and Yet... by Random (PG) - Sam and Daniel friendship, ep related

Bibliotherapy, by Sallymn (PG) - Jack and Daniel friendship

Four Last Five Things by Sid (PG) - Teal'c, team, Sha're, friendship, angst

No reminder to rec, as the switchover has already happened. There's always next month, though.

Three months at a time. Mostly quiet ones, but that's no excuse!

Friendship Alphabet Soup for SG-1 Gen Fic Day took place in November and was a JOY. I wrote a story for that, then squeezed in one last fic for the calendar year:

R is for Rapport. Meditation isn't kel no reem, but it serves a purpose just the same. Teal'c and Daniel friendship, with references to Crossroads, Meridian, Revelations, and Changeling. ~1,410 words. PG.

Fifty Credits on the Wookiee. When Jack introduces Teal'c to Star Wars, he never imagines how obsessed his friend will become. Set immediately after 1969 with a few vague spoilers. ~1,400 words. Rated G.

On to the recs! You all know the drill by now: they were recced at stargateficrec and archived at [personal profile] figs_sg1_rec. The Master List of Fic Recs is current through September.

I know there's still over a week left of September, but Rosh Hashanah is this Thursday, and, as usual, I am completely offline until after Yom Kippur. Even then, expect my presence to be very sporadic. Busy but good times ahead. :)

This past month has happily been a little more actively fannishly, even if it was mostly short ficlets. Here's the rundown:

fics (and podfic) under the cut )

In other fannish news, hurray for Friendship Alphabet Soup! That will go live on November 4th. This is probably the fastest we've ever had all our letters claimed, and not only that, we actually have backups in advance. Let's hope that means the anthology will get to go up in time, heh.

On to the recs! You all know the drill by now: they were recced at stargateficrec and archived at [personal profile] figs_sg1_rec. The Master List of Fic Recs is current! Not quite sure how I managed that.

eight recs under the cut )

Here's a little fact for you: there are now nine hundred fifty recs at the archive. Yowza.

Current events leave me with little fannish enthusiasm, even if the idea of escapist fun is appealing. What little fandom time I do have has been spent reading the latter volumes of HOME, most of which were published long after I moved to a different country and lost easy access to libraries. It's fascinating, albeit a little depressing, to realize that a. my favorite aspects of Middle-Earth are apparently the parts that interested their creator the least and b. some of my favorite characters' existence were only added as an afterthought. OTOH, Trotter the wooden-shod hobbit is still as hilarious as it ever was. :) It's also amazing (and humbling!) as a writer to see how often Tolkien didn't know what was going to happen. "Who is Trotter?" leaves my jaw dropping, not to mention the idea of traitor!Boromir, a living Denethor, and a dead Eowyn...

Anyway. No writing from me these past two months, but I did manage a minimum of recs. You all know the drill by now: they were recced at stargateficrec and archived at [personal profile] figs_sg1_rec. The Master List of Fic Recs is still current only through January. Ouch.

Here's the roundup for this month!

Another SG-1 Gen Fic Day came to a happy conclusion, complete with Episode Alphabet Soup!

I wrote two fics for the Soup:

X is for Unknown. After the events of 1969, the team tries to track down Michael and Jenny.

Kishotenketsu (PG). A Jack character study piece, at the very beginning of COTG.

And, only 18-odd months late, here's the most recent entry is the On the Outside, Looking In series. This one is S8.

I continue to fill in my bingo squares for [community profile] genprompt_bingo! I've actually done five so far. Too bad they're nowhere near being in a straight line. :)

Now for the recs! This month, I arbitrarily decided to rec one story each for every member of SG-1. So: seven recs. 'Twas fun. Perhaps I'll do minor characters next month...

Pesach means this was a pretty quiet fannish month for me, but still...

Fandom! We are having another SG-1 Gen Fic Day next month, whee! And Episode Alphabet Soup. I hope I will FINALLY write the story I've been trying to write for nearly five years. No, it's not long, just difficult to get the beats right. The timing is absolutely perfect, too. Here's hoping.

Fic: another bingo prompt, that started as one thing and turned into something else entirely! :) Quarantine, which includes a bit of my own personal canon for SGC's effort to contain potential alien incursions and a tiny bit of exploration of Jack's headspace. No spoilers, any season, 1,100 words, rated G.

Recs: only five this month (see top of entry). I mostly cheated :) and shamelessly recced a few - only a few of them, mind you! - of my favorite stories from our last Alphabet Soup. You all know the drill by now: they were recced at [info]stargateficrec and archived at [personal profile] figs_sg1_rec. The Master List of Fic Recs is still current only through January, I'm afraid.

U is for Unheimlich, by Magistrate (PG) - Hammond, Walter, team, ghost stories!

L is for Lockdown, by Jb (PG) - Janet, SGC competence

G is for Godparent, by Stringertheory (PG) - Jack, Sam, Daniel, Teal'c

M is for You Must Remember This, by Ivorygates (PG) - Jack

Five alternate universes..., by Vain_glorious - AU angst

March was crazy busy in RL. April will be busier. :)

In fic, I signed up for [community profile] genprompt_bingo and wrote my first entry: ...And Eat Pie for the Explorer square. I adore Teal'c, I really do. :)

Also, I finally read through all the On-world Alphabet Soup. I am constantly amazed at the sheer variety and incredible talent of all you lovely people. Which is why I'm getting ready for another Soup. ;) More on this below.

I managed six recs this month! You all know the drill by now: they were recced at [info]stargateficrec and archived at [personal profile] figs_sg1_rec. The Master List of Fic Recs is current through January; not sure when I'll have the chance to update.

Actually, there's only a window of a few hours before the announcement goes up, so snag a category while supplies last!

Finally: Gen Fic Day and Alphabet Soup! Yes, I have a new one planned, probably for the last week in May. I would like to get the signups done now, though, to give people time to claim a letter (and an episode - we're doing episode related this time) and plenty of writing time, too. Particularly since Pesach is in exactly two weeks and I will be... slightly distracted, heh.

So think of which ep you'd like to claim, and I'll get the claims post up sometime on Tuesday.

Yay for SG-1 Gen Fic Day and On-world Alphabet Soup! My own contribution to the Soup was A is for Alien, a Cassie perspective. Less thrilling is how my fannish time has absolutely vanished in the last two weeks. I am embarrassed to admit that I am only halfway through the Soup fics. If you haven't heard from me, dear Soup author, it's because I haven't read your story yet. :(

I didn't get much reccing done, either. You all know the drill by now: they were recced at [info]stargateficrec and archived at [personal profile] figs_sg1_rec. The Master List of Fic Recs is current through last month.

Here are the five I did manage:

Comfort Food, by MidKnightRider (G) (Teal'c friendship with Jack and Daniel)

Reckless, by Annerb (PG) (Awesome Sam!)

J is for Just a Bit Off Base, by Thothmes (G) (OC perspective on the SGC)

Choosing Sides, by Sid (G) (Teal'c and Daniel friendship)

Reprise, by Stringertheory (PG) (Sam and Teal'c friendship)

::looks back at all the Teal'c squee, and grins::

Oooh, do you think I could actually manage to do this once a month this year?

I ficced! Not only that, but it's resuming a project that's been lying dormant for a year. So go me. :) Season Seven of the On the Outside, Looking In series is here.

We'll be serving up On-world Alphabet Soup next month (I can't decide if it should be "On-world" or "On-World" or possibly "Onworld") and I am going to write a story I've wanted to write for literally years. At least, I hope I am... If you didn't sign up, the Soup is always part of Gen Fic Day, so you could write any gen SG-1 fic for the occasion and find it happily welcomed (hint hint).

Other than that, I have quietly passed the milestone of over a year of running [community profile] stargateficrec , with thankfully no drama (except fics in the drama category, heh). I did six recs this month, under the cut. You all know the drill by now: they were recced at [info]stargateficrec and archived at [personal profile] figs_sg1_rec. The Master List of Fic Recs is up to date.

If I could just get some of my writing mojo back, the "monthly review" tag wouldn't be so pathetic. Sigh.

Er. The tag says "monthly review," not bi-annual. Ah, well.

So: six months' worth of recs below the cut! You all know the drill by now: they were recced at [info]stargateficrec and archived at [personal profile] figs_sg1_rec. The Master List of Fic Recs is still only updated through January, I think.

(Seriously, we need more SG-1 reccers! It's only a commitment of two recs over the course of the month. GO FOR IT, says I.)

In other Fig news, the [community profile] sg1friendathon is happily percolating, with authors currently (hopefully) writing stories and the ficathon going live on the 1st of October. You can still join if you're interested!

Here's what happened in the Land of Fig in February!

We celebrated SG-1 Gen Fic Day again, complete with Allies Alphabet Soup. The roundup for Gen Fic Day is here; the complete anthology for the Soup is here. I was very happy with this Soup, although I'm less than halfway through the alphabet in actually reading all the contributions! Still, it was wonderful to see so very many different allies being featured, from big names like the Tok'ra and the Asgard to semi-recurring allies like the Tollan and the Nox to smaller, one-off allies like the Byrsa and Madrona. My thanks to all those who participated! :)

I contributed two pieces to the Soup: I is for Ideology and E is for Edora. The first is a conversation between Ledora of the Land of Light and Drey'auc; the second is SG-9 on the job in the aftermath of 100 Days, working on that treaty for naquadah.

This month's recs were all Five Things, for some reason. You all know the drill by now: they were recced at [info]stargateficrec and archived at [personal profile] figs_sg1_rec. The Master List of Fic Recs is updated through January.

six Five Things recs below the cut )

~insert usual encouragement to sign up to rec at [info]stargateficrec here~

There's a nice crop of reccers for this coming month (yay!) but hey, there's always room for more! Right now we have five SGA reccers and two SG-1 reccers (not including me). And with Pesach coming up, my own random recs will be sparser than usual, so...

A new calendar year, a dwindling but still active fandom... ::squishes SG-1::

We'll be having Gen Fic Day on the 18th of February, complete with Allies Alphabet Soup. I do like these composite Soups; the wider theme offers such a wide range of options. And I'm happy to see that we're still getting new authors volunteering.

Speaking of volunteers, hint hint: we're still one author short for the Soup. The letter G is still unclaimed. I do have a backup author (much thanks, [profile] 11am_street!) but it's been five years since we didn't have 26 separate writers for all 26 letters, and I'd hate to ruin our record now. If anyone out there would like to write 100 words or more of gen fic about one of the SGC's canon allies, please comment at this entry.

Edit: And G has now been claimed! Is this fandom great or what? :)

In fic, I wrote another Sha'uri piece: Crossing the Line. It's an expanded scene from Stargate: the Movie, in which Sha'uri is determined to spark rebellion against Ra. Just over 1,200 words, and rated PG.

eight recs under the cut )

Only one volunteer has signed up so far. ::pokes fandom:: Let's see some reccing, shall we? :)
