I want my writing mojo back. NOW, PLEASE.

Four recs in April, plus the four I did in March that never got properly linked:

Time Share, by Kalquessa (G) - Jack, mini!Jack

Sing Me Your Songs of Joyous Wonder, by Karen T (G) - humorous S6 team

The Only Constant, by Tallulah Rasa (G) - team

Checking Up, by SG Betty (PG) - Daniel, mini!Jack

Won't Feel So Alone, by Epiphanyx7 (PG-13) - Daniel, Jack, Charlie

Ready When You Get Back, by Campylobacter (PG) - Daniel, Nick

Countdown, Causality, and Close Enough, by Ivorygates (PG-13) - Cassie

Q is for Quintessential, by Tallulah Rasa (PG) - Daniel, Oma

Huh. Lots of Daniel, in retrospect. Hardly surprising, I suppose. :)

~insert regular encouragement to sign up to rec at stargateficrec here, especially as there are only two reccers so far for next month and neither is for SG-1~

Meanwhile, I'll still be right here, loving SG-1 and wishing I could write about them.

Good grief, I can't remember the last time I had such a long fic-writing dry spell. Two months now! Happily, next week's Alphabet Soup will change that. :) Happiness is Soup fics nestled snugly in my inbox!

At least I managed five recs this month. You all know the drill by now: they were recced at [livejournal.com profile] stargateficrec and archived at [personal profile] figs_sg1_rec. The master list of fic recs is updated through last month, so look below the cut for this month's:

Magistrate offered fic snippets. I asked for anything Sam, but also offered the prompt of something creepy through the Stargate.

You can read the fantastic result here. And please join me in nagging for more! :)

I know there's still over a week left of September, but Rosh Hashanah is this Thursday, and, as usual, I am completely offline until after Yom Kippur. Even then, expect my presence to be very sporadic. Busy but good times ahead. :)

This past month has happily been a little more actively fannishly, even if it was mostly short ficlets. Here's the rundown:

fics (and podfic) under the cut )

In other fannish news, hurray for Friendship Alphabet Soup! That will go live on November 4th. This is probably the fastest we've ever had all our letters claimed, and not only that, we actually have backups in advance. Let's hope that means the anthology will get to go up in time, heh.

On to the recs! You all know the drill by now: they were recced at stargateficrec and archived at [personal profile] figs_sg1_rec. The Master List of Fic Recs is current! Not quite sure how I managed that.

eight recs under the cut )

Here's a little fact for you: there are now nine hundred fifty recs at the archive. Yowza.

Pesach means this was a pretty quiet fannish month for me, but still...

Fandom! We are having another SG-1 Gen Fic Day next month, whee! And Episode Alphabet Soup. I hope I will FINALLY write the story I've been trying to write for nearly five years. No, it's not long, just difficult to get the beats right. The timing is absolutely perfect, too. Here's hoping.

Fic: another bingo prompt, that started as one thing and turned into something else entirely! :) Quarantine, which includes a bit of my own personal canon for SGC's effort to contain potential alien incursions and a tiny bit of exploration of Jack's headspace. No spoilers, any season, 1,100 words, rated G.

Recs: only five this month (see top of entry). I mostly cheated :) and shamelessly recced a few - only a few of them, mind you! - of my favorite stories from our last Alphabet Soup. You all know the drill by now: they were recced at [info]stargateficrec and archived at [personal profile] figs_sg1_rec. The Master List of Fic Recs is still current only through January, I'm afraid.

U is for Unheimlich, by Magistrate (PG) - Hammond, Walter, team, ghost stories!

L is for Lockdown, by Jb (PG) - Janet, SGC competence

G is for Godparent, by Stringertheory (PG) - Jack, Sam, Daniel, Teal'c

M is for You Must Remember This, by Ivorygates (PG) - Jack

Five alternate universes..., by Vain_glorious - AU angst

March was crazy busy in RL. April will be busier. :)

In fic, I signed up for [community profile] genprompt_bingo and wrote my first entry: ...And Eat Pie for the Explorer square. I adore Teal'c, I really do. :)

Also, I finally read through all the On-world Alphabet Soup. I am constantly amazed at the sheer variety and incredible talent of all you lovely people. Which is why I'm getting ready for another Soup. ;) More on this below.

I managed six recs this month! You all know the drill by now: they were recced at [info]stargateficrec and archived at [personal profile] figs_sg1_rec. The Master List of Fic Recs is current through January; not sure when I'll have the chance to update.

Actually, there's only a window of a few hours before the announcement goes up, so snag a category while supplies last!

Finally: Gen Fic Day and Alphabet Soup! Yes, I have a new one planned, probably for the last week in May. I would like to get the signups done now, though, to give people time to claim a letter (and an episode - we're doing episode related this time) and plenty of writing time, too. Particularly since Pesach is in exactly two weeks and I will be... slightly distracted, heh.

So think of which ep you'd like to claim, and I'll get the claims post up sometime on Tuesday.

[personal profile] magibrain posted an "ask me anything" entry, and then added, If you ask me something I'm just not going to answer, like "What's your home address and social security number?", I'll just write you a drabble for a fandom we're both in. (If I'm not aware of any shared fandoms, I'll just write you a drabble about an improbable crime-fighting duo or something.)

So I, of course, asked for a drabble with an improbable SG-1 crime-fighting duo. :) Mind you, SG-1 has precious few improbable crime fighting duos. But I got a great one anyway!

Go read a hilarious double-drabble featuring that famous crime-fighting duo, Walter the Chevron Guy and the MALP! And grin. :)

Er. The tag says "monthly review," not bi-annual. Ah, well.

So: six months' worth of recs below the cut! You all know the drill by now: they were recced at [info]stargateficrec and archived at [personal profile] figs_sg1_rec. The Master List of Fic Recs is still only updated through January, I think.

(Seriously, we need more SG-1 reccers! It's only a commitment of two recs over the course of the month. GO FOR IT, says I.)

In other Fig news, the [community profile] sg1friendathon is happily percolating, with authors currently (hopefully) writing stories and the ficathon going live on the 1st of October. You can still join if you're interested!

A new calendar year, a dwindling but still active fandom... ::squishes SG-1::

We'll be having Gen Fic Day on the 18th of February, complete with Allies Alphabet Soup. I do like these composite Soups; the wider theme offers such a wide range of options. And I'm happy to see that we're still getting new authors volunteering.

Speaking of volunteers, hint hint: we're still one author short for the Soup. The letter G is still unclaimed. I do have a backup author (much thanks, [profile] 11am_street!) but it's been five years since we didn't have 26 separate writers for all 26 letters, and I'd hate to ruin our record now. If anyone out there would like to write 100 words or more of gen fic about one of the SGC's canon allies, please comment at this entry.

Edit: And G has now been claimed! Is this fandom great or what? :)

In fic, I wrote another Sha'uri piece: Crossing the Line. It's an expanded scene from Stargate: the Movie, in which Sha'uri is determined to spark rebellion against Ra. Just over 1,200 words, and rated PG.

Not too much to report in the state of the Fig this month, because most of my fannish time has been involved with behind-the-scenes at [info]stargateficrec. [personal profile] angelsgracie left things in smooth running condition, but there are a few things that I wanted to tweak, so...

So now there's a new rec template and we're rehauling the tagging system. The tags are insanely chaotic -- especially from way back at the beginning of the comm's history, when everything from category to warning got tagged and multiple spellings got thrown into the mix. (That's not a sneer, by the way. It's the nature of a hugely popular comm to get confusing after a while.) I've trimmed away seventy-odd tags that were used once or twice over the years and renamed tags to be hierarchal rather than confusing (I hope). That job still isn't finished, but I'm getting there! I'm now looking for some way to display the tags page as multi-level rather than as-is, but it'll have to be a style that allows for a free or plus account. Does anyone have any ideas?

I did manage to get five recs in, though. As always, they were recced at [info]stargateficrec and archived at [profile] figs_sg1_recs. The Master List of Fic Recs is up-to-date.

five recs under the cut )

Sadly, I haven't had time to work on [community profile] sg1genrecs with the new [info]stargateficrec responsibility. Let's hope some other interested reccers remember to post a link or two!

And finally, in the fic department, I managed the sixth installment of On the Outside, Looking In. It is currently only on DW because I can't load LJ. I can't even tell if it's my filter causing trouble or an actual LJ outage, sigh.

(I was going to write all ten seasons this year. It was going to be my incentive to get at least 22,000 words of fic written. Silly Fig.)

~insert usual encouragement to sign up to rec at [info]stargateficrec here~

For the record, there are five (actually, four) volunteers to rec SGA pairings and one volunteer to rec Tok'ra gen (YAY). I'd love to see more SG-1 volunteers, no matter what flavor - although I will be very happy to see more gen fic recced, natch!

I knew I'd never manage NaNo, but I thought that I could at least write two (or more) sections of On the Outside, Looking In during this month. But nooooo, I managed only Season Five and a few drabbles of S6. So much for finishing the series before the end of the calendar year, sigh.

I didn't even manage to rec as many fics as I usually do each month. Only six this time: four Jack and Daniel friendship, and two Doctor Who crossovers. (What is it about Doctor Who that makes for such gleeful crossovers? I've never watched a single ep on any incarnation of the show and I inevariably fall in love with ever DW/SG-1 crossover I ever read. I've recced an insane amount of them over the years.)

You all know the drill by now: All the fics were recced at [info]stargateficrec and archived at figs_sg1_rec. The SG-1 Rec Master List does not yet include the recs linked below.

Jack and Daniel friendship recs )

Doctor Who crossover recs )

In other reccing news, the the edges of canon theme over at [community profile] sg1genrecs isn't getting quite the attention I'd hoped to see. I've made two recs myself; I hope to see more of them soon.

And in other, slighting daunting reccing news... yes, I have taken over ownership of [info]stargateficrec. [personal profile] angelsgracie and [personal profile] medie are retiring and Angelsgracie offered the comm to me to keep it going. I was insane enough to say yes :) although I will still be continuing to operate as Reccer of Random. Honestly, it does seem to run pretty smoothly on its own. I don't expect to have to do much more than put up sign-up posts for volunteers and announce the monthly reccers, although I do think a little tidying up of accumulated clutter would probably be a good idea. Here's hoping I won't find it too overwhelming! There's already a nice crop of volunteers for next month (all pairings, natch -- we gen fans must take what crumbs we can get), but if you're interested in reccing yourself, you can claim a category here.

Good grief! The tag is monthly review, not every four months! Ah, well.

Part of the reason I was so neglectful is that I spent three months being mostly absent fannishly (outside of reccing). So here's the quick roundup of the state of the Fig since June:

In fandom: We celebrated SG-1 Gen Fic Day and cooked up some delightfully varied SGC Alphabet Soup.

In fic: I wrote only two, both this past month:

V is for Victuals. My Soup contribution. Aliens, civilians, military personnel -- they all need feeding. That's Sophie's job, and she's proud to do it. No real spoilers. 510 words. Rated G.

A Most Successful Treasure Hunt (PG-13). Pre-series Vala, trying to find enough trinkets to keep going. Includes spoilers for her backstory. 1,730 words. Rated PG-13 for references to certain Goa'uld habits.

four months' worth of recs behind the cut )

In other reccing news, poor neglected [community profile] sg1genrecs now has a new theme: the edges of canon. I think it's got lots of interesting potential. Hope to see some nice recs there.

I'll have more reccing news for you at the end of the week, or possibly the beginning of next. Meanwhile, if you are interested in reccing at [info]stargateficrec, the volunteer post should be up on the comm in the next day or so.

Most of June was focused on SG-1 Gen Fic Day and Bra'tac (and Jaffa) Alphabet Soup. I mentioned in a post to Alphabet Soup authors that this might have been the last Soup, and several of you lovely people still seem to feel that there's room out there for more Soups on other topics. We'll see how it goes. I'll certainly be happy to be proven wrong. :) If you have ideas/suggestions for future Soup themes that might be broad enough to get sufficient volunteers, I'd love to have them! All previous Soups can be found here.

My own fic contributions were R is Reassessment, an early S1 Bra'tac perspective on the Tau'ri, and On the Outside, Looking In (Season Four), the S4 section of my ep-related drabbles from outside POV.

I didn't have that much time to rec this month, although I am delighted to report that I did achieve the rather important milestone of 800 recs this month! \0/ You all know the drill by now: All the fics were recced at [info]stargateficrec and archived at [personal profile] figs_sg1_rec. The SG-1 Rec Master List is still amazingly current. Since I am no longer reccing specific categories, I've identified the main characters of the recs when necessary.

eight recs below the cut )

If you are interested in reccing at [info]stargateficrec, the volunteer post should be up on the comm in the next day or so.

In other reccing news, [community profile] sg1genrecs has been running a Vala theme for quite a while now, but the comm has been mostly quiet. I'll be doing admin duties there in the next day or so, announcing a new theme, so if you've got a Vala fic to rec, now's your chance.

This is the first month since... I don't know when that I haven't written any fic at all. Well, that's not quite true. I did stumble on 200 words of post-Threads Jack and Daniel friendship fic that I wrote ages ago and was probably supposed to be light and fluffy. When I opened the file and tried to continue it, my brain tried to take it in an angsty direction instead. Hopefully, it shall be complete by SG-1 Gen Fic Day (did you see how neatly I segued there?) at the end of June.

So, yes! We are having SG-1 Gen Fic Day on June 24th, and I'm very excited that we've got a full complement of authors (including some new ones, yay!) for our Bra'tac (and Jaffa) Alphabet Soup. ALL gen fic relating to SG-1 will be eagerly welcomed, no matter when the era or the genre, so I hope we'll get plenty of new fic besides the Alphabet Soup!

Hey, a Benevolent Dictatrix can dream, right?

Onto the recs! You all know the drill by now: All the fics were recced at [info]stargateficrec and archived at [personal profile] figs_sg1_rec. The SG-1 Rec Master List is still amazingly current. I will be reccing my 900th story some time next month, whew!

Since I am no longer reccing specific categories, these are all over the place, but I made an effort to vary the characters and eras. I've identified the main characters involved of each story next to the link.

nine recs below the cut )
If you are interested in reccing at [info]stargateficrec, the volunteer post should be up on the comm in the next day or so.

In other reccing news, [community profile] sg1genrecs is currently running a theme of Vala recs. We've had four recs so far (technically 29, actually; one was Vala Alpahbet Soup), and more are always welcome! Wander over there, check out the recs, and do some gen reccing of your own. :)

As expected, Pesach left little time for fandom, so aside from the Season Three installment of On the Outside, Looking In and [personal profile] colls treating me to two podfics (squee!), my fandom time was all taken up with recs.

I finally got around to updating the SG-1 Rec Master List, by the way, and realized that my anniversary (so to speak) was April 1st. I have been doing this for SIX years. My current total is 786. I... am not sure what to say about this. :)

You all know the drill by now: All the fics were recced at [info]stargateficrec and archived at [personal profile] figs_sg1_rec. As I said, the master list is actually current. Since I am no longer reccing specific categories, these are all over the place, but I made an effort to vary the characters and eras. Where the title doesn't make it obvious, I've identified the characters involved in the story.

Now, onto the next subject: an upcoming Gen Fic Day, complete with Alphabet Soup. Possibly.

Item the second: I'm a bit behind in my 12 for 12 challenge for [info]gate_women, but here is a list of Janet fic recs. Some are old friends; a few are newer ones. All of 'em are good!

Item the third: Has someone been joyriding in a swiped mothership after a few too many drinks? Mysterious phenomena like this make that "plausible deniability" thing even harder for poor Paul Davis to manage. ;)

Yes, I know, another quiet month. We had Purim earlier and now Pesach is coming. :)

In fandom, Pi Day got celebrated with some Sam squee. In fic, I wrote another round of happy drabbles (thanks for the great prompts, people! Other than that, though, my fandom time this month was mostly taken by recs.

You all know the drill by now: All the fics were recced at [info]stargateficrec and archived at [personal profile] figs_sg1_rec. The Master List of SG-1 fic recs is current through 2011, and one of these days I'll catch up. If you are interested in reccing at [info]stargateficrec, the volunteer post should be up on the comm in the next day or so.

In other reccing news, [community profile] sg1genrecs is running Reccer's Weeks this month: volunteers sign up for a week at a time and commit themselves to rec at least two gen stories during that period.
