How much do I love this fandom? Take a look below:
Here are links to the new stories written for SG-1 Gen Fic Day:
On the Outside, Looking In (Season Four), by Fig. The fourth in an ongoing series.
tallulah_rasa posted two new fics in the past few days at my nagging behest, so we'll call them Gen Fic Day entries! :) The Only Constant (classic team: Jack, Daniel, and Sam) and In So Many Words (post series, team love, the nature of words and their meanings.)
Here are older stories, specifically requested in the "shameless self-promotion" category:
Beauty in Skill, by Fig. PG. The Goa'uld have always prized style over substance, but Teal'c finds beauty elsewhere. (Or "Why most Jaffa suffer from the Stormtrooper Effect, and why Bra'tac is awesome.")
Something Smoother, by Fig. G. If you're going to drown your frustrations in alcohol, you might as well drink something worthwhile. A missing scene from Sacrifices with Jack and Bra'tac.
Two stories by
jd_junkie: A Heroes-related gen fic featuring Senior Airman Simon Wells and Daniel Jackson. Five Minutes Longer.
Post-Heroes, a Cassie and Daniel talk story, Getting Through It.
And two by
gategremlyn, under different pennames:
Special Delivery. Teal'c sends out Valentine's Day cards. (Season 9 or 10, Humor)
Where Honor is Due by my alter ego, taylyn10. Tealc and Daniel discuss what is means to be a warrior. (Season 4, Angst)
What a Waste of Good Pie by
sg_wonderland. Some fun teamy silliness in the wake of Urgo, with bonus George and Janet. G.
Magistrate linked to Many Have Said as "an old Teal'c." It's also been recced below.
And here are the recs, presented as they were linked:
Gavilan, by Elysium. approx. 5000 words. A test pilot takes a mysterious new aircraft out for a spin, with an even more mysterious passenger along to critique his performance. (I second this rec -- wonderful fic, great outsider POV.)
Bra'tac's Bomb by Aurora. Bra'tac. And *booms*. And team!
Many Have Said, by Magistrate. Gorgeous exploration of how Teal'c and Bra'tac get to that climactic moment in COTG.
G is for Glory, by Rigel. Another great pre-series glimpse at Teal'c and Bra'tac on the road to rebellion.
Of Honey Cakes and Honor, by Thothmes. Short but powerful ficlet of the first time Bra'tac really notices Teal'c's potential.
Let Us Begin, by Annerb. The AU I'm hoping she'll continue one day: Bra'tac on the run with a Sha're who just barely has Amaunet under control. Great stuff.
Two fabulous fics by Minxy: Footsoldiers on Uneven Ground and The God of Poets Has Two Hands. The first is Bra'tac and Teal'c's mother at the very beginning; the second is a wonderful meta exploration of Bra'tac post-series and how he perceives the new world he's helped create.
Weep Not For the Past, by Abyssis. Bra'tac and Daniel have a chance to talk, post-Threads. And there's also her Journey of a Thousand Years, a post-series vignette of Bra'tac and Sam.
First Lessons, by Redbyrd. The queen of episode fixes explains why Ry'ac and Drey'auc stayed behind in Bloodlines, with typical Bra'tac awesomeness.
Pale Battalions is Beatrice Otter's painful pre-series fic of both Teal'c and Bra'tac -- not in open rebellion, but wishing they could be, and hurting.
Something Sweet by Minnow is just lovely: Bra'tac and Teal'c and tretonin. And cavities.
And on the lighter side of things, Contemporary Wushu is a fun romp of Bra'tac in Atlantis, being his usual awesome self.
Xenophilia, by Annerb. Three grouchy old guys being awesome: George, Jacob, and Bra'tac.
Regarding Bra'tac (and Jaffa) Alphabet Soup: we've got 20 out of 26 fics so far, clocking in at about 20,000 words. I've sent messages regarding the outstanding stories; one author has responded and will be posting shortly, but I haven't yet heard from the others. This is unfair to those wonderful cooks who did get their stories posted on time, I know! Obviously RL can sometimes interfere, and it might be something as prosaic as a lack of internet access. Let's just hope that everyone is okay -- and if I don't get replies by tomorrow, we'll throw those last five letters open to all takers so our Bra'tac (and Jaffa) Alphabet Soup can be served in full. When that happens, I'll edit this entry to include the link to the anthology.
Many, many thanks to everyone who wrote and read and commented! Now it's time for me to start reading all those wonderful new stories... tomorrow, probably. :)
