Other than episode reviews and general squee about SG-1, the contents of this journal generally fall into one of three categories: fic recs, meta, and my own fic.
(Some links lead to Dreamwidth. Others lead to LJ.)
( fic recs )

I do not have words.
goddess47 has written so many fics to help bring the Off-Screen Mission Alphabet Soup to completion and she has just done TWO MORE and people, I can't believe it, the Soup is DONE!
You can find the complete TOC of the Soup here:
Off-Screen Missions
I'm a little ambivalent, I think. The Alphabet Soup had an incredible run - there's been 24 of them over the years, starting sixteen years ago. It might be accurate to say we had 23 in ten years, I suppose... :)
I will never ever figure out why such a fun prompt of filling in the blanks for all the missions that have been teased or referenced in canon turned out to be the one that we most struggled to accomplish, but, well, here we are. I'm glad to turn off the stove for the last time with feeling of well-done, but I'm also a little saddened to know it's never going to happen again. When we first started this last Soup, I had optimistic thoughts of a gen fic revival, with maybe even enough interest sparked to create another round of the Friendship Ficathon too. But I think that SG-1 has been a closed canon for a little too long to find enough writers out there.
I want to thank all the many, many authors who contributed over the years to the Soups. Some have long since moved on to other fandoms; some are no longer with us; and, happily, many are still around, if a lot more quiet (she said, looking wryly in the mirror). My thanks, too, to the readers who enjoyed the fics, especially those that took the time to comment and warm the author's heart.
Here's to SG-1. And squee. :)

Hurray, the Alphabet Soup is actually back on the fire!
stringertheory started it, and I've written an entry, and now
sg_wonderland has too.
Six letters left. Who's ready to write another Soup ficlet? After four years, it would be really nice to see this finished!
Instructions and prompts here.

First fic in two years! A contribution to the still-incomplete Alphabet Soup!
No, this is not an alternate universe. :)
Summary: In the post-mission briefing after Maternal Instinct, Daniel insists that he needs to make one more trip through the Stargate.
Jack POV, angst level high. Team, Hammond and Bra'tac. ~1,150 words. Rated PG.
Author's notes: Possibly apocryphally, Ernest Hemingway was challenged to write a six-word story. The result was this fic's title.
( (E is for Ernest Hemingway) For Sale: Baby Shoes, Never Worn )

But HURRAY,
stringertheory has revived Off-Screen Missions Alphabet Soup with a new fic!
Here's the link to her story, which details the infamous events of P3X-595. Enjoy! And hey, maybe someone else will be inspired to write something, too!

Soooooo, I happened to visit my profile and I was quite taken aback to learn that it has been thirty-one weeks since my last post. I know I haven't written any fic in much too long and I don't tend to just post at random, but because I am at least semi-active at

Someone who writes science better than I do, please incorporate this fascinating technology into a fic in which, say, the SGC can communicate with the host of Apophis. Or Ba'al. Or Sha're in Amaunet. Something.

He was "four and a half years old" in the summer of 1969 and his birthday is July 8th, so... So Daniel's degrees are not in mathematics, apparently. ;)
But good grief, Daniel at 54 or 55?! Oma must be flabbergasted!
Comment here with Daniel quotes. Or Daniel pics. Or Daniel fics. Or hey, just Daniel squee!
Here's some of my own:
A (very, very) few of my favorite Daniel quotes:
"Don't you ever give up?"
"Not until dead... and sometimes, not even then."
"Anyway, I'm sorry, but that just happens to be the way I feel about it. What do you think?"
"What kind of archeologist carries a gun?"
(Daniel raises his hand) "Uh, I do!"
My favorite screen shot of Daniel in Changeling:

Hooray, the Soup is still simmering! Marzipan has posted a new Soup fic and my hopes are rising that yes, this final SG-1 Alphabet Soup will end with a bang, not a whimper.
I've added her entry to the top of the Table of Contents. And I hope some of you will be inspired to look at the many prompts and sign up to write a fic, too!

It's been a very busy half year for me, including another grandchild (whee!) and various other tidbits of RL. But I've been sparing wistful glances for our poor neglected FINAL Alphabet Soup, which is still only half-complete.
Anyone remember this? Off-Screen Missions, which features missions that are referenced or implied during an episode but not actually shown onscreen. It was a marvelously intriguing concept that, sadly, hasn't come into real fruition.
Due to the diminishing fanbase, this is going to be the last Soup. But I would at least like to see it complete.
To date, half the Soup has been posted - you'll find the thirteen entries at this post. The many, many prompts that are still available can be found at this link.
So how about it, gen fans? Let's bring the Alphabet Soup series to a triumphant conclusion! New cooks as well as seasoned experts are more than welcome, and I will happily answer any questions you might have.

Withing you all a happy and kosher Pesach! I'll be around again the week after.
I'm always a little unnerved at how far you can stray when a comment a page on your browser prompts you to click there, and then there, and then...
Anyway.
Moka pots. It seems the non-electric ones would work very well on a campfire. Do you think this is Daniel's choice for coffee on digs, or off-world?
