Even if Ancient tech does use electrical circuitry, you'd still probably want some kind of converter. Unless you got very, very lucky, and the signal strength and amplitude were an exact match for what the computer's input requirements are.
From the look of all the pretty crystals, not to mention the extreme stability and long life of Ancient systems, my guess is that they use an optical system, which could be converted to electrical signals by means of Science!(tm).
