Bwah ha ha! I've corrupted you into watching a non-Daniel episode! Teamy goodness wins out!
But see, even gratuitous Daniel mention (and I like to think Sam said "and other people" after Cassie's letter because she got upset thinking Daniel's letter is currently undeliverable, *sniff*. J/S shippers probably have a different theory, but I'm content with my own fanwank).
I'm so glad you liked it! I agree the happy opening was a bit incongruous after the "oh noes we've lost one of our team members" of last week. But we know they've been on base and left again, so hard to say how much time has passed.
It's funny, I was just having this SAME conversation with abyssinia4077 in her lj about Landry, and she's only to Fourth Horseman. The only time I got a glimpse of real and likeable Landry was "Uninvited" (which you didn't watch, heh) and another ep not aired in the US yet. I even wrote his bio, and he just...I dunno. I'm willing to like him (even if Hammond will always be THE General to me), but I'm not feeling the love.
As for Lam, she's been mentioned but not seen on screen this season. But you know why, right? Ms. Doig was pregnant and had a baby (her second with husband Michael Shanks) so was on family leave for a while (why they didn't pull a clipboard/labcoat maternity hideaway, I dunno). This is also one of the reasons MS is not in this ep or the next one.
I loved Thilanna and you're right "Kyle" (or the other villager--what's hisname, that's his name from the Apophis ep), he was a nice and not quite stock character contrast, even if he was mean to Teal'c (boo!), it was understandable.
Those Ori fighters were seen in "Flesh and Blood" when they invaded Chulak. And no, I don't know how they fly them either, maybe they're pretty simple controls and/or there's some Prior acolyte training camps where they learn principles of aerodynamics? You got me.
I never liked Tomin in Crusade either, but I really loved him here. I liked his personal journey, and his interactions with Vala.
The jump in temperament from last week’s emotional state was too abrupt, and Sam’s application of Merlin’s device came from way out in left field.
At least Sam was still working with Merlin's device from last season and didn't make up a completely new thingamabob. But yay for teamy goodness!
