Anyone who wonders why I love Sha're should go read the amazing
Determination by
beatrice_otter right now. And if you understand my love for Sha're, and share it, go read it even faster!
I asked Beatrice for a snippet of Hammond and Sha're, in a snippet from an AU in which Daniel and Skaara are taken by Apophis and Sha're comes to Earth to help get them back. The result is this absolute
gem. She gets Sha're perfectly right: full of determination and courage and strength, yet not a Western caricature of the woman who was raised as a slave to Ra and inspired her people to a rebellion. Her perception of Hammond (white and fat) is fascinating, and perfectly reasonable from her point of view. I love how we get glimpses of backstory and culture - and thanks,
quarryquest, for
supplying Beatrice with those authentic touches! - and of Sha're's precious year with Daniel, and how she uses every bit of earned knowledge and experience and inner fire to try and get what she needs. And while this is the AU where Sha're is spared the torment of serving as Amaunet's host, we see the same deep patience, the same one-step-at-a-time sense of self that allows her to push as far as she can and then wait for the chance to push some more.
Beautiful stuff. I can't wait to rec Sha're again on
stargateficrec. In the meantime, this unabashed squee will have to do. :)
