Despite being an incredibly hectic month in RL (one that won't calm down until next week sometime!), I'm pleased that I was able to rec two categories for [livejournal.com profile] stargateficrec in December: Original Character and Teal'c and Daniel friendship.

The master list of fic recs can be found here; the fic rec archive is at [livejournal.com profile] figs_sg1_rec. I've started to link to the archive rather than [livejournal.com profile] stargateficrec, but the format of my recs is taken directly from the comm, and all credit really goes to [livejournal.com profile] angelsgracie and [livejournal.com profile] medie and company.

I'm a bit leery of original characters; too many authors fall into the trap of either Mary-Sueing their creations or making them know way too much. While one of my absolute favorite original characters had been cruelly snatched and previously recced in this category by [livejournal.com profile] abyssinia4077, I will be reccing her this coming month in the Gen category. So there. :) Still, I found five wonderful original character fics to rec!

Son of Endless Sky, by Rydra Wong (PG-13)

Trauma Confusion, by Aurora Novarum (PG)

Apartment 8-3, by Moonshayde (PG)

Outside the Box, by Bethj (G)

Stop the Presses, by Redbyrd (PG)

Here are previous recs that included high-quality original characters:

Things Not Understood, by Emily (PG) - my only Cameron ship fic so far, and likely to be the only one. :) A fascinating look at an outsider's perspective of the goings-on at Cheyenne Mountain, in the persona of Cameron's wonderfully-characterized wife.

Gavilan, by Elysium (PG) - a fascinating AU, written before Tangent. A test pilot is given the golden opportunity to be utterly wowed by Teal'c.

Wednesday's Child, by Betacandy (PG) - Just why did Daniel keep calling Jack "Jim," anyway?

Mnemophobia, by Tripoli (PG-13/R) - Arjun might have shared Daniel's body, but he is unquestionably a uniquely original character in his own right, as are many of the other people we meet throughout this excellent AU of Fallen.

Insurance SNAFU at the CPO, by Aurora Novarum (G) - Somebody had to notice multiple payments to Daniel's life insurance!

Threshold Missing Scene, by Lex (PG-13) - The guard at Teal'c's psychiatric session with MacKenzie during Threshold gets a real eye-opener.

Endeavor Series, by Redbyrd (PG) - The astronauts on the shuttle that rescued Sam, Jack, Teal'c, and Bra'tac can't just forget the incredible events of that day... By the time the story ends, Redbyrd's characters have worked themselves so seamlessly into canon that you'll find yourself forgetting that they really are original characters!

Teal'c and Daniel friendship fics are frustratingly few and far between. The only reason I waited so long to rec this category again was the need to acculmulate a minimum of four more fics! In the end, I found six excellent Teal'c and Daniel friendship fics to rec this month. Write me more of this wonderful friendship, please!

Stained Glass, by Jane Davitt (PG)

Splinters of Ice, by Scribe (PG-13)

Forgive and Contrition, by Kellifer (PG)

A Long December, by Wonderland (G)

Ithaca, by Niamaea (G)

Only Misplaced, by Random (PG)

Previous Teal'c and Daniel friendship recs can be found here.

Since I'm a bit late with this, it's already past the time to volunteer to rec in [livejournal.com profile] stargateficrec for October. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't sign up! Go check out the volunteer posts and pick your favorite category or character or pairing - and sign up to rec just four fics over the course of a month. It might be in November or December, or even several months from now, depending on the queue. So what? Think of it like signing up for a ficathon; volunteer now, and get the assignment later. The mods will be most pleased to have a waiting list, I assure you! :) Check out the community’s FAQ if you have any questions, or e-mail the very helpful mods.
