This month, besides reccing the always-delightful Daniel Jackson category, I had the pleasure of creating a new category in the Other Friendship section: Jack and Teal'c. I got a little carried away with my enthusiasm, but what else is new? :) I didn't even get the chance to rec all the stories on my list!
Lest you worry that my concentration on Jack and Teal'c and Daniel has somehow lessened my love for Sam, I will hasten to assure that I still adore her as much as ever. As proof, I offer the fact that one of my rec categories next month will be Sam and Teal'c. :)
The links below actually lead to the recommendations at the rec archive at
figs_sg1_rec, but they were all posted first at
stargateficrec, which is a marvelous resource and deserves everyone's participation and support.
The master list of fic recs has now been split in two because of LJ posting constraints: fics titled A-M here and fics titled N-Z here. It is now current through the end of March. If you're looking for the most recent recs, or want to search by character or genre, try
figs_sg1_rec.
Jack and Teal'c friendship recs
Tiggers Like Everything, by Pepper (G)
Any Doubt, by Knightshade (PG)
Wild Blue Yonder, by Geonn Cannon (G)
Ulysses, Bound, by Janet Davitt (G)
There Are No Dragons Here, by Beanpot (G)
Flights of Ingenuity, by Aurora Novarum (G)
Smooth Pebble, by Rigel (G)
Against the Wishes of My Dreams, by Emily (PG)
ETA: I forgot to add links to Teal'c and Jack friendship fics that I've recced in the past. Here you go:
walked right out of the machinery, by Rydra Wong. PG-13/R. Wow is this a powerful story. Abyss takes a very sharp turn to the left, and the entire future of SG-1 shifts along with it. Heavy warnings for psychological trauma, violence, and language, but Teal'c's ability to just be there when Jack needs him so desperately is my personal favorite scene in this excellent novel.
Golden, by Knightshade. PG. A fascinating glimpse into an alternate timeline, with terrific Teal'c perspective and Jack at his side, despite his misgivings.
Daniel Jackson recs
Untitled Daniel, by Emily (PG)
Learning Curve... Tilt?, by Lokei (PG)
Translations, by Night Spear (PG-13)
Five experiences Daniel had while Descending, by Vain Glorious (PG)
Beside me, singing in the wilderness, by Rigel (PG)
Scales, by Magistrate (PG)
Words of Beauty/Love/Life, by Tejas (PG)
Previous Daniel recs are here, here, here, and here. That doesn't include months of "Daniel and [insert SG-1 team member here] friendship" recs, of course. Feel free to browse the tags at
figs_sg1_rec if you're so inclined. :)
Since Translations was the first ever WIP I've recommended, I'm delighted to report that subsequent chapters have more than lived up to my expectations. Night Spear offers a fascinating look at what a teen-aged Daniel raised on Abydos would be like. He's got Daniel's quirks and personality and stubbornness and insight, but he also has huge gaps in his knowledge of Earth history and culture and is very much conscious of his status as a minor and an alien on Earth.
I love Robert Rothman in this fic. I love how SGC history is affected without Daniel on SG-1. I love Daniel's affection for the team, and his interactions with Sam, and the way Jack is seesawing between big brother and parental figure. (This from the woman who hates when Jack treats adult Daniel as a Charlie substitute, mind you. But in this fic, it works well, without any cloying sweetness in sight.) I love the treatment of Maybourne (no surprise, heh) and that the NID is not a one-note eeeevil organization. But most of all, I love the friendship between Daniel and Teal'c. Seriously magnificent stuff.
I haven't tagged it as reccer's choice yet - I'll wait until the story is completely posted, just to be sure - but this is definitely shaping up to be one of my favorite AUs ever.
Since there are four days left till the end of the month, this is the perfect moment to go right now to
stargateficrec and sign up to rec just four stories in your favorite category. Don't worry if someone else has queued up ahead of you; go ahead and volunteer! You'll get your chance in August (or September, or whatever). The mods are always encouraging of newbies, and the FAQ will probably answer any questions you might have. Go! Spread some fanfic squee. :)
