So, it's last Wednesday, and less than ten minutes after [livejournal.com profile] aelfgyfu_mead submits her fascinating Demons pre-Chaucer ME meta for [livejournal.com profile] redial_the_gate, our phone lines go dead.

And stay dead.

At 11 p.m., this can be kinda creepy.

We eventually discover that the phone company was working on the lines in the neighborhood and accidentally messed something up with ours. We'll have our phone lines back by morning, they assured us.

Well, we did. But what we didn't have was our DSL line back... until this afternoon.

I'm leaving tomorrow to go up north with the family for a six-day vacation, most emphatically internet-free. I'm unfazed by that. So why did these unexpected six days of no internet access drive me so insane?

Er, I'd probably prefer it if you didn't offer any hypotheses to that question. :)

But I logged on today and found 82 messages in my in-box, and skip=175 on my flist. And that's just a little too much for me. I'm going to bounce off and eagerly read Aelf's meta and the comments, and catch up on last week's discussion on Demons (including the hilarious segue into canon vs. fanon and Jack's knees, because some people have no patience ::bg::), and read this week's Redial post; but if you've posted something this week that you think I'll enjoy, please comment here with a link!

Now, I know that for some people, skip=175 is normal for a regular weekend, or even overnight. But not for me. It's another reason why I'm eagerly waiting for Dreamwidth to debut: the plan to split a "friends list" into two, a "watch" list and a "trust" list. I trust everyone who ever reads my posts, because I never flock posts to begin with. The only exceptions to that rule are the organization posts for the Sam and Hammond alphabet soups, and a few private mod discussions for [livejournal.com profile] redial_the_gate before we set up an admin discussion community. But I've always treated my flist as my reading list, and it's gotten too overwhelmingly long.

So, for the first time ever, I'm going to be defriending people. I hate the term, and I hope I've made it clear that it's not a question of trust or dislike; it's a question of my treating LJ almost exclusively as my Stargate fandom place. With very few exceptions, my flist consists of people who are active on the gen side or meta side of the fandom. I tend to be very mono-fannish, too. So while I cheer (and admire!) other people's ability to enjoy mutliple fandoms, I don't really have the time - or inclination - to read about it on my flist SG-1 reading page.

My profile page reads, "Friend and defriend as you will!" And I mean that. If I defriend you, it's not out of dislike or distrust - it's because your posts are either mostly non-SG-1 related, or relate to aspects of SG-1 that don't interest me. My own posts are always public, and I welcome anyone to read them, whether they drop by when they feel like it or comment (and argue) on every single post. If you think I've defriended you by mistake, and that you do post about SG-1 stuff that I enjoy, please drop me a line and say so. And while you're all more than welcome to stick around, I always grant full amnesty to anyone who gets a little overwhelmed by my rather single-minded brand of squee. :)
