I like to think of the Sarcophagus as yet another of the Great Failures of the Ancients. Presumably, they invented this one whilst trying to cure themselves of the plague (I've used that in two fics, one of which I haven't actually written yet), and then the SuperSarcophagus was more extremes of the same panic, but with extra bonus Zombies.
