Earlier this week, I asked for prompts for the fannish five meme:

Ask me my fannish Top Five [Whatevers]. Any top fives. Doesn't matter what, really! And I will answer them all in a new post.

[personal profile] aurora_novarum asked for my top five "another fine mess you got us into" moments. I'm not sure this is what she had in mind, but here we are, anyway. :)

1. Daniel in 1969 sprang instantly to mind: the team is in a holding cell, a soldier comes in and asks Daniel - in Russian - if they are Russian spies, and Daniel automatically answers, "Nyet." Jack drawls, "Daniel...?" And Daniel automatically starts translating, just as he would do on any mission, and trails off as he realizes exactly what he's done. Poor Daniel buries his face in his arms as Jack follows the soldier out of the holding cell, muttering "Nyet!" to himself in disbelief. I love it every time. :)

2. Next is Teal'c in Exodus, when the Jaffa Revenge Thing (tm) leaves him and Jack stranded on Vorash, minutes away from a scheduled nova. Oh, and Teal'c dead for good measure. At least in 48 Hours and Talion, Teal'c makes sure the JRT doesn't endanger anyone but himself.

3. Need - the episode that so many love to watch but that makes me mostly cringe. "The man who would be king." Not so much the sarc addiction as much as grabbing Shyla to stop her from suiciding, and it's interesting that Daniel's impulse back in Broca Divide was to stay back and uneasily watch.

4. On a brighter note, one of my favorite S2 team moments is when they realize how badly they messed up on Cimmeria, and they ask Hammond for permission to go back and fix things.

From Thor's Chariot:

Teal'c, stepping forward: "The destruction of the Hammer device to save my life may have caused this. If so, I am responsible."
Jack, moving foward too: "General, I gave the order."
Daniel, joining the others: "And I fired the staff at the machine."
Sam, lining up with the rest: "And I... was there."

5. And to make Aurora happy with a last season reference, the entire episode of Bad Guys was one lousy decision after another, and I loved it to pieces. :)

[livejournal.com profile] acarlgeek asked for my top five moments when someone futilely yelled, "Daniel!" to try and head him off:

1. My first is actually from the movie, when Sha'uri is killed and the bomb is counting down. Daniel sees the rings being activated from Ra's ship. He picks up Sha'uri's body and dashes to the rings.

Jack sees what he's doing and shouts, "Jackson!"

The rings come down and Daniel says through them, "Wait for me," and then he's gone.

I've always loved the simple implicit faith of those three words. And yeah, Jack waited, even if he got half-killed in the process. :)

2. Then there's Jonas, yelling, "Doctor Jackson! No! Doctor Jackson!" when Daniel shoots out the glass and dives through to stop the naquadria reaction from blowing up the planet. Yeah, poor guy never had a chance to stop him.

3. Walking through the flames in The Quest:

"The only thing left is faith."

"Daniel!" (from Sam)

"Jackson!" (from Mitchell)

4. Daniel in Watergate, putting his hand into the "water."

Markov, incredulous: "What are you doing?" To Sam: "What is he doing?"

Sam: "Daniel!"

5. Absolute Power, when Daniel targets Moscow, and Jack says urgently, almost desperately, "Daniel."

"Don't worry. There's no threat of residual radiation spreading. It's quick and clean, like cutting your enemy's heart out with a scalpel."

Jack fires. Daniel looks at him.

"You never were that bright."

I'll get to the rest of these later today, I hope!

Daniel in 1969 is hilarious.

I need to watch more of these episodes.

And I hate watching Need as well.

No, I started at the beginning and am currently half-way through S4, so I've been going and commenting on a lot of old Redial entries. I may well catch up with Redial at around S6 or so, depending on how the next few months go.

(I got into Stargate from [personal profile] staranise's fic, because I knew her from other fandoms, and then went round reading stuff, so I've been thoroughly spoiled for everything, but still haven't watched any of the later series.)
