Had a really lovely month, despite no television or internet access (yes, it can be done!), but I've now had the opportunity to watch three of the four eps I've missed.

Starting with the wonderful Pegasus Project:

Oh… oh. Best. Episode. Since. EVER.

Wonderful team episode with everyone pitching in, intelligently and capably. Mitchell at his best, Sam at hers, Teal'c at his. Teamy goodness, with everyone showing concern for one another  - Vala and Mitchell watching Daniel sleep, Sam's casual bump of the shoulder when Daniel comes to watch the approach to Atlantis, Mitchell's defense of Sam when Rodney oversnarks, Vala's anxious attempts to comfort Daniel at the very end. Vala providing counterpoint without being intrusive (liked the humor of the defensiveness behind her argument that she'd only stopped Daniel from getting to Atlantis twice!).

Daniel. Daniel. Daniel. Wide-eyed wonder and excitement over Atlantis, Jackson-patented logic leaps based on his linguistics skills where no one else even spots a problem, impassioned appeal to Le Fay ala long-haired Daniel of yesteryear, acknowledgement – real acknowledgement! – of his ascension, the drive he had then to help others, and the costs of walking the line, especially when Le Fay is whisked away just as Daniel was in Full Circle.

Best of all, despite Daniel's unhappy awareness at the end that the Ancients won't/can't help? A real, honest-to-goodness victory… their first in way too long a time. That's a pet peeve of mine, worthy of a post in itself, which I hope I'll write properly one day. But Wraith ship gone, Ori ship blasted, Supergate occupied indefinitely, Ori forces in Milky Way reduced by 25% in a single blow without the possibility of reinforcements… yep, a solid, well-deserved victory. And about time, too.

My only knowledge of SG:A comes from Martha Wilson's AU crossover fic (be aware that it's no longer gen after the first three) and Kellifer's own sweet telling of Daniel and Sam making it to Atlantis, but I greatly enjoyed the banter between the SG:A characters, especially the many references to violence towards McKay. :) Kudos for giving a non-Atlantis fan like me enough to follow along without being tiresome for the fans in the know. Liked the easygoing, natural respect between Daniel and Weir, harkening back to the beginning of S8. Liked how we got Walter the Chevron Guy in there with a cameo, although, Mitchell's puns aside, the long-distance rates must have been absolutely staggering.

Liked the episode, period. I'm way behind, with another three eps to see before I'm current, but all I want to do right now is watch this one all over again.

I haven't enjoyed an episode this much since Reckoning in S8. Lovely, lovely ep. Thanks for getting it right for a change, PTB.

Moving along to Insiders...

Huh. No Daniel, as we're helpfully informed in the first two minutes of the show. Hate hate hate the stupid Ba'al multiple clone storyline; it completely contradicts the natural arrogance of the Goa'uld for Ba'al to allow multiple copies of himself to run around. Excellent! Forty minutes of time to spend on rewatching Daniel in "Daniel Disneyland" instead. :)

I did read the transcipt at Stargate Solutions, though, and giggled at this priceless exchange:

MITCHELL

Oh, I know I can't control her. But that's pretty much par for the course. Sir…Carter and I are the same rank. Teal'c's an alien. Jackson's a civilian. I learned a long time ago, I don't "control" anything.

LANDRY

Who does?

That actually deserves more than a laugh, as not only Mitchell, but all of SG-1 seem all too aware that Mitchell is more than figurehead than actual leader. And that's a pity, because our team needs leadership, but isn't getting it.

Then I read further and stared. And stared. Sam just caved because the Ba'als threatened to kill Barrett? What? As in, this one man, a military guy who went into this with full awareness of the risks, will die - versus everyone, including this one man, will die if Ba'al succeeds? Sam Carter, who resisted Hathor, the Blood of Sokar, Fifth's interrogation, and probably lots of other threatening bad guys that escape me at the moment... er. That would be a "no." Alas, poor Sam, and you were doing SO well until now. Looks like S10 just took an extreme left turn for her.

...And then I stared some more. They ruin Barrett, the one decent guy working at the NID, as far as we can tell. And Sam gives the Ba'als real, honest intel, when there's no way for them to check that she's not giving them the specs to Doom III, or maybe Nethack. And Landry COMPLIMENTS her for this? Argh. Sorry, Daniel, but that's your death knell I hear tolling. The last time Carter was reassured for making such a disastrous, idiotic security mistake, you ended up with a sword through the chest, courtesy of RepliCarter. Can't wait to see what happens to you this time. No, wait; I can.

And finally, a quick reading of Univited:

Yet another Daniel-less episode, so it's quicker to read the transcript instead of watching... Yes, I am one of those people who consider Season 6 to be comprised of three episodes. :)

Liked the Landry/Mitchell exchange, hankering back to last week's comments re control. And Barrett is apparently back on track, so the NID is saved from being the one-note Bad Guy Wonder. Other than that...? Kinda meh, except for filling a plot hole that would've made the SG teams a lot safer and future storylines a lot more boring. What, the writers have to compensate for Pegasus Project's grand slam and give us mediocre stories now? And while the writers' politics are often reflected in dialogue and storylines, this one was so painfully obvious and slanted that I winced. I don't want politics invading my escapist fun. Leave it at home, guys, and let us enjoy Stargate, okay?

One out of three is only considered good in baseball averages. I hope tomorrow's look at 200 will be more upbeat.

And has anyone reported the SG-1 wormhole effect at the Lost and Found yet?
