Once again, I didn't manage to post a round-up last month. So here's the bi-monthly review.
Bit of a signal boost here for GateFic. The site seems to be intended as fic archive and forum as well, but right now, they're concentrating on the GateFic Awards. While there's no direct affiliation, it looks like GateFic is a successor of sorts for the Stargate Fan Awards. Nominations run through August 31st, so if you want to nominate a favorite fic or ten, now's the time!
I do like a few things they've done here: professional writers's fanworks may be submitted, for example, as long as it's not official like a Fandemonium novel. And they plan to leave nominations open year-round, instead of trying to remember links and such in a short time window. There's no list yet of who's running things - and I do hope we find out soon - but so far, I'm cautiously optimistic that this will be a good thing for the fandom. If you think so, too, why not boost the signal in your own journal?
Meanwhile, in our own little cozy corner of the fandom, we celebrated SG-1 Gen Fic Day on July 8th in Daniel's honor, complete with Team Alphabet Soup! That makes ten Soups in total, and we'll be discussing Alphabet Soup's future soon, I hope.
redial_the_gate also continues to watch an episode of SG-1 each week - we're more than halfway through S7 now. In fact,
aurora_novarum will be recapping Chimera at Redial tomorrow night, and I hope you'll join us!
I didn't do much fic writing these past two months, but here's what I did get posted:
Read Between the Lines. PG. Pre-series Sha'uri fic, and itself a prequel for Line in the Sand. When Sha'uri discovers forbidden drawings beneath the tunnels of Nagada, she must decide whether or not they carry any meaning. This one was hard to get right, but I feel pretty good about how it turned out.
In Memoria. PG. Daniel in Ancient Egypt in that nebulous time between teams in Moebius, and rather heavy on the angst. Daniel honors his team's memory through the choices he makes.
D is for Duct Tape. G. A shameless bit of teamy goodness silliness!
In meta, the big news (for me, anyway) is that I finally posted the next edition of Canon vs. Fanon: Off-world fanon, part 2. There are also several episode dicussions that you can find with the meta tag, because Redial is awesome that way. ;)
I made 19 recs over at
stargateficrec in these last two months, breaking 600 recs in the process. (You can find some statistical musings here.) They're all archived at
figs_sg1_rec, which is where the links below will take you.
Sam and Daniel friendship is a regular favorite of mine. I do love the Wonder Twins!
An Awfully Big Adventure, by Mara (G)
Those Who Dwell in Realms of Day, by Rigel (PG-13)
If I Were King of Babylon, by Julie (PG)
Storybook Childhood, by Sam Willow (PG)
Jell-o is Good for the Soul, by Jess (PG)
Previous Sam and Daniel friendship months are found at these links.
The last time I recced AU as a category was back in 2006, when I was still young and callow. ;) There are 50 recs with the AU tag on the archive, though.
Journeys, by Nightspear (PG-13)
Five Teams SG-1 Wasn't, by Tafkar (PG)
Five Ways Arrom Left Vis Uban, by Smilebackwards (PG)
Walkabout, by Cofax (PG)
Falling Back to Earth, by Annerb (PG-13)
Teal'c and Vala friendship is a new category for me! Fun one, though. :)
Incredible Luck, Annoying Charm, by Ana (PG)
T is for Teal'c, by Ziparumpazoo
Jester's Silence, by Holdouttrout (G)
Getting Your Priorities Straight, by Pepper (PG)
Humor is always one of my largest collection of links. Here are five of them:
The To-do List, by Rachel500 (PG-13)
Things That Go Bump, by Kathryn A (PG)
Investigation into the effects of zat'ni'ktel fire..., by Penknife
Victim of Disorganized Thinking, by Abyssis (PG)
Cliché-vian Rhapsody, by Tallulah Rasa (PG)
Previous months of humor recs can be found here and here. I'm a bit surprised to realize that I rec humor as a category so rarely, but it certainly shows up often enough in other recs!
