Why is it so much harder to be off-line when it's involuntary...? At least things are working again now.
Time for our Vala Alphabet Soup, which we'll be celebrating next month on SG-1 Gen Fic Day. Go here to claim a letter!

This is how it works: the letters of the alphabet are available on a first come, first served basis. Comment over at LJ (to avoid conflicting claims) and claim a letter - one letter per author only. I'll strike them out as they're claimed, but as long as you made your request first, the letter is yours. By making a claim, you are committing yourself to writing at least 100 words on Vala Mal Doran by January 4th.
On that day, comment with your fic in the SG-1 Gen Fic Day post, using the title as the subject of your comment (A is for Adria, C is for Credit cards, T is for Trust). On January 5th, I'll collate all the ficlets in alphabetical order and post them together as a complete anthology. (The mirrored post on LJ will only have excerpts - hurray for longer Dreamwidth entry limits!)

There are only four rules: your fic must be at least 100 words, although there is no maximum limit; it must be about Vala Mal Doran, and preferably a defining aspect of our favorite space pirate; it should not contradict canon, because we want to define the Vala we know and love from the show; and it should be gen.
No, really: GEN.
You all say this is possible! This is part of SG-1 Gen Fic Day, after all. :)
An author is welcome to mention, or even focus, upon Vala's marriage to Tomin. Non-specific references to Qetesh/Ba'al would be okay, too. But no romance, please, and no AUs or alternate timelines. Yes, that means no Daniel/Vala from Unending. Sorry, D/V fans, but those are the rules. :) Anyone may, of course, create their own version of Vala Alphabet Soup in which shipping is welcome, but not for this one. If in doubt, feel free to ask; and if you find it difficult, perhaps you should take care to choose a keyword that doesn't lead to a shippy fic.
The keywords are suggestions only. If you're inspired to use one of the keywords for your fic, that's great! If a different idea strikes you, that's great, too. You do not have to use any of the keywords I've offered here, you do not have to get my approval for your keyword, and you certainly do not have to use multiple keywords. Special thanks to the enthusiasts who supplied so many options here - I see Vala is quite popular! Collation was a tad complicated, and my apologies if any keywords are doubled or missing.
Spread the word to your own flists, please! And let's hope we really can do the impossible and write lots of gen fic for Vala. :)
