[community profile] sg1genrecs is my little baby here at Dreamwidth, and I'm kinda proud of it. :) We don't get more than four or five recs a month, but we've got a pretty respectable number of people subscribed, and and I'm always delighted when we get new reccers. In fact, the theme right now is your favorite fic - why not go post something?

The comm's layout was set up before DW went into open beta, when there were very few layouts available, and I used a Core 1 Mixit layout that has worked out very nicely. But there's one thing I'd really love to add, and that's multilevel tagging. That means that instead of looking like this:

current tag system )

It would look like this:

multilevel tag system )

I really like the look of the multilevel tagging. It's neater, easier to navigate, and makes a lot of sense for a comm with over 60 tags. Unfortunately, multilevel tags aren't supported by the Mixit layout, which is Core 1 - although it is available for Core 2.

So. I asked over at [community profile] style_system and got some very helpful advice from [personal profile] foxfirefey which I tried to follow and, well, couldn't. Sigh. How badly am I dating myself if I mention that I first learned programming with Basic? I can follow the coding of the layout - mostly - but when it comes to tweaking, I'm apparently pretty hopeless.

I did a little poking around and found Dignified Transmogrified, which supports multilevel tags and is at least a color scheme that I like. But I really enjoy the look of the current layout, and I'd hate to lose it.

So, bottom line: is there someone out there who is familiar enough with the S1 and S2 layout codes to help me with this? I don't want to lose the very pretty layout we have right now, especially with [personal profile] sg_betty's lovely matching banner. If anyone can advise me, or would even be willing to dive into the layout code and wrestle it with themselves, I'd be very grateful.
