So, I took the opportunity to watch Cold Lazarus last night. Season Two will always and forever be my favorite, with with each passing week at
redial_the_gate, I find myself loving Season One more and more.
Some random observations, some relatively silly (and some a lot silly):
“Where’s the colonel?” – Daniel to Teal’c during the teaser. And, again, "Colonel!" when he tries to talk to him via radio: "...am I doing this right?" I love clueless early season Daniel! The formality is interesting, isn't it? And he’s still calling Sam “Captain” or "Doctor" (or both, heh ). He calls Jack “Colonel” one last time in the hospital, at the end; I think that he doesn't really do it after this episode.
The crystal entity hesitates when it puts on Jack’s coat. Maybe because it’s such a large size that it’s not sure it’s putting on the right one?
Daniel’s BDUs are outrageously baggy next to Sam’s relatively fitted ones.
The tech who scanned the crystals from back in the planet took an extra moment to smile at Daniel! Perhaps there's some canon to the women-at-SGC-always-flirt-with-Daniel after all!
“Your world is a strange place.”
Daniel, looking as if it’s utterly obvious: “So’s yours.”
“You received permission for me to fire my staff weapon in the Gateroom?”
Blank looks for a moment from Daniel and Sam, and then: “Oh, yeah.” “Absolutely.” Hee! Wonder twins powers, activate!
“…after Apophis and his Serpent guards shot up the place…” “Since your energy weapons are the same as the ones Apophis used…” Helloooo, Sam and Daniel? Teal’c was there.
Sara was an incredibly strong woman – brave and steadfast and determined and holding it at least partly together in spite of the sheer insanity she was forced to face. Whew. Everyone’s seen
nomadicwriter’s lovely Decade, right? In my own personal canon, Jack never, ever stopped loving Sara.
‘Captain Doctor, Teal’c!” Oh, Daniel, you are so cute.
First “Holy Hannah!” I think it might also be the last, outside of Jacob's. Something else to watch.
“The MRI was negative…” Whoo! Missed one. It doesn’t specifically say the Little Doc was Goa’uld-hunting, though.
Very impressive that the video feed from the Gateroom that Sam shows Jack is not crystal clear. There's a ridiculous amount of handwaving to do in later episodes about the quality of videos feeds (I'm looking at you, Crystal Skull).
“…nuclear radiation?” Y’know, Daniel had a thing about radiation a long time before Meridian. It crops up in Singularity, too. It only makes sense for him to be wary about it afterwards - as in Bounty, for example - but it's interesting to see that it started all the way at the beginning.
Hammond, pointing to the staff weapon. “Teal’c, you’ll have to leave that here.”
“I have seen your world. I will need it.”
Heh. Can’t blame him. Poor Teal’c – this is really his first time out of the mountain at all? And it was George that gave Teal’c his first baseball cap! And it was a Chicago baseball cap! That gives me warm and fuzzy feelings inside.
Poor messed-up Unity. Poor messed-up Jack. But I’m glad we had this opportunity for Jack to move past it, a little.
They let Jack go back through the Gate alone? After what happened the first time? Silly SGC.
In other
redial_the_gate news, I'm delighted to announce that with the exception of Bloodlines, every single episode from Season One has been snagged by a volunteer to do the recaps. Come on, Teal'c fans! Who's going to tackle the huge news that Teal'c not only turned his back on his (soon to be dead) false god, but also abandoned a family? And didn't trust the Tau'ri enough to tell them about it? And Daniel's cool ruthlessness in destroying all the infant symbiotes? And BRA'TAC, the only guest star to actually survive all ten seasons of the show and stay absolutely fantastic in every. single. appearance?
Don't get me wrong: if no one steps up to volunteer, one of the mods will do it, and I'm sure we'll do it justice. But if you're a member or watcher of
redial_the_gate and you'd like to particpate more actively in the squee, go to this post and sign up now!

Now that is a very interesting observation. ::nods:: I think you should go sign up right now to write meta for that episode! :)
the awesome scary Daniel moment where he shoots up the tank
Oh, yeah. That moment, combined with his quietly-voiced threat to kill Apophis RIGHT NOW if he doesn't tell him where Sha're is - those two scenes are my favorite non-Saint-Daniel bits in the whole show. I love his contradictions and dichotomies.

(I'll sign up as back up if you want, if no one else asks to take it before about two days before)

Yeah, it wasn't his - Sam gave him hers to hold, and he wasn't in any hurry to give it back. And yes, he had decent aim. Don't tell me that Daniel is a pacifist who can't hold a gun without his hand trembling!
since I doubt the military would force their civilians to learn more than the handgun, it shows Daniel's total dedication to the cause
Do you really think so? Demand that he qualify, maybe not. But I can't imagine Jack not making sure that Daniel can, at the very least, aim and fire the various weapons that the team uses. And, of course, by S5, he's firing a P-90 with every bit as much expertise as Sam and Jack.

I've not actually been watching the eps beforehand, recently, but I'm going to start doing it again, because I find I see a lot more, when watching and knowing there's going to be a recap. I'm enjoying Redial more and more, you know. :D

Yes, that's it exactly! Sometimes I have the chance to rewatch, sometimes I don't. Sometimes I only skim bits and pieces. But it's so much fun to have extra bit of squee every week! I didn't think it was possible to love early SG-1 more than I already do, but apparently I'm wrong. :)

It really timed itself well, didn't it? Launch on the 10th anniversary, end of S1 at Christmas.

I only know things are early this year because we've been having crazy family drama over my cousin scheduling her wedding on Yom Kippur. Otherwise, I wouldn't have known either.

I know Rosh Hashana is next week; just hadn't correlated it to Chanukah coming out early.
Crazy family drama. Whew.
