[info]redial_the_gate is now having signups for recaps for S9. If you're not watching the comm (why not?), wander over and sign up to recap your favorite! Five eps already claimed in less than an hour. :)

[info]redial_the_gate goes live today with Moebius, part 2, drawing S8 to a close. It's been a wonderful ride since Abyssis first proposed Redial, and it's hard to believe there are only two seasons left (plus two movies) before we've redialed the Gate from start to finish!

In the meantime, a few random thoughts on Meobius and the sheer cruelty of it all...

As I said, just rambling here. But I welcome your thoughts. :)

I know that there are lots of you, and I'm happy that my own lesser enthusiasm doesn't chase you away from this journal's general SG-1 squee...

[info]redial_the_gate just went live with [info]iamrosalita's recap of Prometheus Unbound. Go. Join the discussion. Rec your favorite fanworks (including your own!) Enjoy. :)

[info]redial_the_gate does Gemini this week, and I am taking the opporunity to finally watch the episode for the first time. Whee! :D

To those of you unfamiliar with my SG-1 backstory, I should explain details that I'll cut for those of you who know this already. )

So, I'll be liveblogging as I watch this for the first time. I know the basic storyline: Replicarter (one of SG-1's best villains ever) shows up at the SGC and asks for help against Fifth, and that Sam and Teal'c deal with her with Jack's approval. It ends pretty disastrously, with Replicarter more powerful than ever. No recapping here -- just reactions. Onwards!

Gemini )

Bottom line: much better than I expected. An interesting character study of Sam all round. Typical Teal'c awesomeness. And now I'm off to read Aby's version on Redial. :)

Redial's recap for Zero Hour goes up later today. I have abused my modly powers to enjoy [personal profile] nandamai's upcoming post and spent most of the time giggling. Make sure you all drop by [info]redial_the_gate later to enjoy it!

In the meantime, though, here is a bit of Jack meta. It's only a few lines that wouldn't fit into my recent Jack fic, but it certainly fits this particular episode:

It's one of the reasons he mocks the Goa'uld so much. He's glad for their incompetence, of course; Earth wouldn't stand a chance against their superior technology without it. But it's so stupid.

Ba'al isn't stupid, though, and Jack mocks him for different reasons entirely that he very carefully refuses to consider on any conscious level.

S9-10 Ba'al was incredibly incompetent (to me, anyway), and even Continuum-era Ba'al made some astonishingly stupid mistakes. But the Ba'al of S6-8 was scarily intelligent.

So. Jack and Ba'al and what it meant for Jack to face him again with the assumption that the three people he probably loves most are in Ba'al's hands. Discuss. :)

Season Eight over at [info]redial_the_gate offically starts tomorrow (voting for the new comm icon is still ongoing), so it's high time I sit down and actually watch the S7 ep I've never managed to watch before!

...Hey, it's a clip show. It's not like it was all that tempting. :)

Anyway. I go into this one knowing that we first meet Hayes, that Kinsey is up to his usual slimy tricks, and that Woolsey goes from one-note bad guy to two-note I'll-back-the-guy-on-top. This is just live-blogging my reactions, although I might include some questions along the way. Onwards!

Inauguration )

Bottom line: yeah, I see why this slipped so easily under my radar. Nothing actually happens, does it? Anything new here is made pretty obvious in Lost City. Still, even a few minutes of extra George footage makes the ep worth it. :)

I think this leaves me with only three SG-1 eps that I have not yet seen, and one of them is coming up in S8. Gemini, here I come!

[info]redial_the_gate has just finished our redial of S7 and Pepper has posted the sign-up entry for Season Eight. If you want to recap an ep with General Jack or volunteer to submit some meta on the general threat level of walking laundry piles or why Maybourne is such a lowlife with his multiple wives prejudiced? me?, now's the time!

First of all, a belated happy birthday to [personal profile] cleothemuse and early birthday wishes to [personal profile] sg_wonderland! Best wishes for glee and squee. :)

Second, just a bit more proof that I see Stargate in just about everything: It's 2010, and we're predicting solar flares. Someone call the SGC and tell them to check the timeline for any stray Aschen!

Third, [info]redial_the_gate does Resurrection this week. The recap by [personal profile] maevebran doesn't go up until Tuesday, but here are a few random thoughts. )

Nanda's fantastic recap of Heroes, part 1 was posted at [info]redial_the_gate yesterday, but I didn't get a chance to watch the ep until this morning on the treadmill. So a few random observations:

Janet is just beautiful in this episode. Oh, I do love her.

SG-13 is made of awesome, every one of 'em. So many great moments of sheer teamy goodness, and YAY for the chance to learn that other Gate teams are every much as close and well-oiled as SG-1. Love the betting in the beginning (two headed aliens - one head good, one head bad), "Dr. Jackson's gonna die when he sees this!" "What, again?", the ribbing of the ultrasound as being less attractive than whatever creature they met once on a mission, the seamless way the team acted when the probe showed up with Dixon unhesitatingly following Balinsky's suggestion to bury it under a wall, the smarts of sending Balinsky to get back to the SGC for help... all of it, really. So wonderful.

Sam teasing Teal'c about being a blabbermouth. Daniel's faux innocent shock to Sam that Bregman found his films of ruins et al boring. The woman tech behind Walter trying so hard not to roll her eyes during his interview. Jack and Kinsey. Siler getting blasted and Bill Lee, whee!

On a slightly more serious note... )

Yes, I'm very late to the Redial party for Fallout, as [personal profile] grav_ity posted her recap on [info]redial_the_gate last week. But I wanted to find the time to rewatch, not depend on memory, since the last time I watched this was long before I saw S6 in its entirety and learned to like Jonas.

So. A few random thoughts on the ep, and some meta-ish thinking on the Goa'uld.

Sadly, I did not have time to rewatch Grace for this week's [info]redial_the_gate. So before I go and read [personal profile] zinke's recap, here are a few random thoughts of my own:

1. I love how Sam hallucinates each member of the team: Teal'c watching her six and urging caution, Daniel suggesting she try to communicate and think outside the box, Jack making her think like a soldier and get moving. Just lovely.

2. My absolutely favorite aspect of all this is Sam's apparent conviction that Daniel is a shameless flirt. Those fluttering eyelashes make me grin every time. :)

3. As a gen girl, Grace is about Sam coming to terms with what she wants. I've always wondered how Jack/Sam fans see it. Care to share?

Here are my own thoughts on Sam and shipping, pretty much cribbed from an old entry/comment of mine that I can't find at the moment: my theories on Sam, let me natter about them. )

4. One final observation: they used Sam's hallucination of Jack in the "previouslies" for Threads. This is on a par with showing the Stargate activating in Reckoning on a planet from FIAD that didn't actually exist. Oh, show. :) :)

Redial does Avenger 2.0 later today, with a recap by [profile] sjhw_tolerance...

I said I missed liveblogging new SG-1 eps, didn't I? Well, Avenger 2.0 is another episode I have not yet watched, as my reading of the transcript way back when most decidedly put me off. I know there are a lot of people like there who enjoy Felger & Co., but I... am not one of them, as the liveblogging of The Other Guys shows all too well. Still, a commitment is a commitment, right? :) [info]redial_the_gate is still happily chugging along in the seventh season of rewatching, and I've got to my part!

So: Avenger 2.0. I go into this one knowing that an attempt to infect Ba'al's DHD is co-opted and infects the entire Gate network and that Felger still has major hero-worship issues for Jack and Sam. No real review here, just commenting as I go along. Onwards!

Avenger 2.0 )

Bottom line: even less to like than The Other Guys, and that's saying something. Good thing this was a strong Hammond ep to help offset the Felger horribleness. And hey, new SG-1 is always fun, even if there's only a stray good moment or two in the entire ep!

Using this icon was obligatory, as it's taken from the episode. :)

[info]a_loquita's recap of Revisions goes up at [info]redial_the_gate later today, and it's a great one! In the meantime, here's a thought or five of my own:

PDL cameos never fail to amuse.

It's slightly horrifying to consider that when SG-1 walked into that dome, they essentially doomed at least four people to death to compensate.

Jack and Teal'c swapping suppers is absolutely adorable.

This ep has all the markings of a fantastic team episode, yet it fails to resonate. Most people have the same problem with Spirits (not me - I loved that episode). What makes an episode click for you, and what doesn't?

I wish the writers hadn't specifically shown two women walking out to their deaths.

The scene in my icon is my favorite, because it sums up SG-1 so perfectly: Sam wants to try to find a technological solution, Daniel wants to find historical proof in the old books, Teal'c brings up the security angle, and Jack is the CO who weighs all their opinions and advice and makes the final decision. Ah, team. :)

The recap for Fragile Balance at [info]redial_the_gate just went up! Here are a few thoughts of my own:

Kid who played mini!Jack was FABULOUS. He channeled Jack better than RDA. :)

I'm not just annoyed at the flyboys who disrespected Sam; I am seriously annoyed at JACK. Sam was actually holding her own when Jack showed up against orders to take over the briefing. And Sam backed him up. Jack not only didn't back her up (was it really necessary for him to disparage a point she's already made?), but he didn't show her any respect at all. It's a far cry from the Jack in S5 who deliberately chose her to show Kaytano that Tau'ri weapons and soldiers were a lot better than the Jaffa assumed. Must I be charitable and put it down to raging insecurity issues? And yes, that's the charitable interpretation!

I like that Daniel sometime needs an interpreter, heh. Actually, I loved Daniel in this ep (raise your hand if you're surprised). His snark at mini!Jack, his casual listing of all the bizarre stuff that has happened, his determination to save Jack even if he has to drag him kicking and screaming, his wimping out of telling Jack that he's a clone... Ah, Daniel. I liked Jonas a lot, but it is good to have you back!

Why is mini!Jack able to move when Loki beams him back up when everyone else was paralyzed?

I utterly cannot fathom mini!Jack wanting to go off to high school. I have to believe he lied about that to get Jack off his back and ducked immediately out of sight, and that the reason he wasn't either summoned at the end of S7 to work the Antarctic chair or shipped off to Atlantis is that they couldn't find him.

Have to say this is a fun ep, and a nice way to get classic team back into business. :)

[info]redial_the_gate is in the hiatus between seasons right now, but that doesn't mean the comm is quiet. :) The trivia quiz and answers were posted this earlier this week, the deadline for the icontest has been extended, and now the sign-ups for Season Seven have gone live!

Astonishingly, there are still several excellent eps available to claim for recap: Homecoming, Evolution part 1, and Heroes part 1. Er, no - Homecoming just got claimed. Two eps left, people! Get 'em while they're hot!

Edit: And Inauguration, too - it has a meta post but not yet a recap.

And to any icon-savvy people reading this, we could really use some more submissions for the icontest. One of the current submissions is enough to make any Daniel fangirl first grin and then laugh out loud :) but we're greedy and we'd like more choices. You have two more days, through the 17th, to submit an icon of your own for consideration as the comm's default for S7.

Two for the price of one this time, as next week will be Pesach and I will be only be online sporadically during the intermediate days of the holiday. The last day of Pesach coincides with Full Circle over at [info]redial_the_gate, but oddly enough, I seem to have watched that one at least once or twice. Or a dozen times, even. ;)

So. Memento and Prophecy. For the first, I'm coming up absolutely blank: I have no idea what it's about at all. For the second, I've vaguely aware of something along the lines of... a precognitive tumor? Surely that doesn't make sense? Ah, dear Stargate. :) We'll soon see if I'm right!

As always, liveblogging of the ep with no real effort to review it properly. Onwards!

Memento )

Prophecy )

It feels very... strange to know I have now watched the entire S6 at least once. Meeting Jonas properly has been a real pleasure. I still haven't watched all of SG-1, but on reflection, I realize that I have not watched every single episode of a TV show ever. So by the time Redial finishes the series, I will have definitely reached a new milestone!

I hope to look back at Jonas in a proper post after Homecoming, when we say goodbye to him. But in the meantime, it's been a fun ride, and I thank both Redial and those of you who have joined me along the way. :)

No "Dial the Gate" this week, and for two reasons:

One, Changeling is hardly a new episode for me. I have watched it over and over and over again! :) So no liveblogging this time around.

Secondly, I was lucky enough to claim the recap for Changeling at [info]redial_the_gate. It will be going up later today.

In the meantime, though, here is a bit of picspam from the ep, especially since Psychologist!Daniel is my absolute favorite non-floppy-haired Daniel. Possibly my favorite Daniel, period. Maybe it's the slightly longer hair combined with the Teal'c and Daniel vibe, I don't know, but I personally find him gorgeous.

Um. You do all know I'm a rabid Daniel fangirl, right? :)

a screencap or six from Changeling )

How about celebrating Teal'c and Daniel's marvelous friendship by commenting here with links to stories that highlight it? :) For my part, I'll direct you all to the rec archive, where I have 42 stories recced with the Teal'c and Daniel friendship tag. And here are my own Teal'c and Daniel fics, just to show that I welcome any self-promotion:

'Tween Weft and Warp. An angsty look at the what-might-have-beens of FIAD.

All in the Timing. Daniel tries to steal a little time, but Teal'c is on to him!

Other stories contain Teal'c and Daniel friendship among general teaminess, but those are the specific ones. I eagerly await your own links!

[info]redial_the_gate does Forsaken today! I'm going into this one... well, pretty much blind. I'm pretty sure this is the ep which includes that neat clip of the team huddled at the bottom of a crater when they Gate through to a fallen Stargate and then use ladders to climb up, but that's kinda it. No real ep review, just liveblogging my reactions. Onwards!
