It's time to start assembling the chefs for our sixteenth Alphabet Soup!
It all started back in March 2008, when we Defined Sam from A to Z. Since then, over 120 authors have collaborated to create Soups for every member of the team, Janet, George, Jacob, team, crossovers, Bra'tac (and Jaffa), SGC personnel, and allies. This time, we'll be serving up On-World Alphabet Soup on February 10th in celebration of SG-1 Gen Fic Day. Here's your chance to claim a letter.
This is how it works: the letters of the alphabet are available on a first come, first served basis. Comment at the LJ entry and claim a letter - one letter per author only. I'll strike them out as they're claimed, but as long as you made your request first, the letter is yours. By making a claim, you are committing yourself to writing at least 100 words of on-world fic by February 10th.
The keywords are suggestions only. If you're inspired to use one of the keywords for your fic, that's great! If a different idea strikes you, that's great, too. You do not have to use any of the keywords I've offered here, you do not have to get my approval for your keyword, and you certainly do not have to use multiple keywords.
On February 10th, comment with a link to your fic in the SG-1 Gen Fic Day post, using the title as the subject of your comment (P is for Physical, S is for Soap Opera, B is for Blog, or whatever). Send me a copy by e-mail as well, as soon as it's ready. When all the letters have been submitted, I'll collate all the ficlets in alphabetical order and post them together as a complete anthology. The anthology on LJ is usually abridged due to posting constraints, with links to the remaining stories at the authors' individual journals; the DW version is complete and unabridged, with links to the authors' individual journals for feedback.
For more detailed instructions of the posting process, click here. Even if you've cooked Soup before, please double-check that there haven't been minor changes in the instructions since the last time you participated.
There are only four rules: your fic must be at least 100 words, although there is no maximum limit; it must take place on-world; the fic must be canon compliant, although it does not have to reference canon specifically and may be set in pre-series or future eras; and it should be gen. This is part of SG-1 Gen Fic Day, after all. :)
Unlike other Soups, there are no restrictions this time about who you choose to write about. It's perfectly fine to write about Daniel or Janet or Hammond or Team or anyone else who has already been featured in a Soup. It's also perfectly fine to create an original character for the SG-1 universe! The important thing is that your story takes place on-world, and fits the other criteria cited above. You may mention canon ships - for example, Jack/Sara or Catherine/Ernest - but no romance, please, and no AUs or alternate timelines. If in doubt, feel free to ask.
Please spread the word - I'm always delighted to have new authors join us (just as I'm ecstatic when loyal regulars join us for yet another round.) Signal boosts are always appreciated! And if you're a newcomer signing up, make sure to mention it so I can welcome you properly. With so many different authors over the years, I tend to lose track...
To avoid accidental multiple claims of the same letter, signups are only on LJ. Please go here to sign up. If that's a problem for you, let me know.
