Edit: Five letters still left unclaimed.
We haven't had one of these in a long time, so...
Welcome to the 23rd SG-1 Alphabet Soup! We've been doing this for ten years now, so some of you are old hands at this, some of you have joined us on a few occasions, and others haven't tried it at all. Veteran cooks and newbie chefs are all cordially invited! We will be serving up 26 (or more) servings of Alphabet Soup for the occasion.
Not sure what I'm talking about? Browse the Alphabet Soup Index.
The theme for this Soup will be Quantum Mirror. Your story may include any character and any era (pre-series, post-series, early season, late season, whatever), as long as it's gen, related to SG-1, and fits our theme. The following types of stories qualify:
* Stories based on the canonical Quantum Mirror universes from TBFTGOG, Point of View, Ripple Effect, and Road Not Taken. These can be outtakes or tags of the actual episodes, or an exploration of what happened before or after the episode itself.
* Original Quantum Mirror fic that interacts with the canonical SG-1 universe - that is, either "our" SG-1 universe having further interactions with other universes through the Mirror, or other universes having interactions with ours through the Mirror.
The following types of stories DO NOT qualify:
* AU universes without Quantum Mirror interaction. These would, in essence, simply be AU fic, which is not the point of the Soups.
* Quantum Mirror stories written for the sake of your favorite non-canonical ship. These anthologies have always been gen, in the non-shippy sense of the word. This is not an opportunity to, for example, write a fic in which military regs do not apply or have always been otherwise. There are many other ficathons out there that cater to ship; the Alphabet Soups are not among them.
This is how it works: comment below to sign up. By commenting, you are committing yourself to writing at least 100 words of Quantum Mirror gen fic. In the past, signing up included claiming a letter of the alphabet; as we did last time, I will give you a randomly assigned letter. This avoids the problem of simultaneous claims on the different platforms of DW and LJ.
Comment with a link to your fic in the Quantum Mirror post, using the title as the subject of your comment (N is for Naquadah, K is for Kree Equals Yoo-hoo, W is for What Just Happened, or whatever). Send me a copy by e-mail and your TOC template as well, as soon as they're ready. When all the letters have been submitted, a master post for the anthology will be posted, complete with the detailed table of contents.
For more detailed instructions of the posting process, click here. Even if you've cooked Soup before, please double-check; the detailed instructions have been edited over the years.
There are only four rules: your fic must be at least 100 words, although there is no maximum limit; it must have some connection to the Quantum Mirror, however you choose to interpret the theme; the fic should be canon compliant, although it does not have to reference canon specifically and may be set in pre-series or future eras; and it should be gen. This is part of SG-1 Gen Fic Day, after all. :) You may write about any character, including original ones, that fit these criteria. You may mention canon ships - for example, Teal'c/Drey'auc or Daniel/Sha're, or even Jack/Sam or Sam/Rodney if you are using those canonical AUs - but no romance, please, and no sneaking in references to your favorite non-canon ship. If in doubt, feel free to ask.
Please spread the word - I'm always delighted to have new authors join us (just as I'm ecstatic when loyal regulars join us for yet another round.) Signal boosts are always appreciated! And if you're a newcomer signing up, make sure to mention it so I can welcome you properly. With so many different authors over the years, I tend to lose track...

X is for X-Treme Changes is written, but I will post it and email a copy to you tomorrow. I want to do it then when it is not 4 a.m. zulu, and clerical and coding errors are likely to be less thick upon the ground.
Not only has this week been All The Interesting, (kid with pneumonia being the most ho-hum event, because she's 22 and handling it like a trooper) but I seem to have gotten all dysnumeric. Somehow I thought the due date of 10/23 [open numeral 3] was 10/28 [closed numeral 8]. Brain is moving in still more mysterious ways than usual, it's wonders to underperform.
I hope I have not caused undue stress!

You have, in fact, caused no stress whatsoever re the Soup, because you are far from the only person who has not yet posted (::coughs at mirror::). The entire month of November is now Soup posting time!

victomscooks are always a delight. :)Q is for Quantum!

I can see where to edit the date, but there is a button that says 'don't show on reading pages' and I'm not sure what it does. Should I tick it or not?
I've written the story, but want to make sure it appears on the right day.

How fantastic that you're finished already! :)
If you're not going to be away on the date we go live, you can just wait until then to post your entry. I'm less familiar with DW's post-dating methods than I am with LJ's, but "don't show on reading pages" means your entry won't be in your reading circle. I suggest you don't tick it.
Do make sure, though, that editing the date postpones your posting, rather than just giving a date other than today's and going up now anyway. As I said, I'm not certain how it works on DW.
Don't forget to send me a copy and your table of contents entry, too! Can't wait to read it. :)
