I've posted links to articles from this site before, and here's another gem:

First Aid and Field Dressings for Writers

Yeah, we all tend to wing it when it comes to medical writing, but we don't want Dr. Gillian wincing too much, do we? :)

If there's one thing that will knock the whole 'suspend your disbelief ' thing out the window for me, it's the medical stuff. I just check out when our hero miraculously recovers from appendicitis or a gunshot wound in days when it would take weeks.

I can handwave a lot in fan fics but when it happens in a book by a paid author? I'm much less likely to forgive and forget. I'll never forget reading a book by a very popular writer in which our heroine, days after a major car accident, merrily takes her broken leg and her crutches down icy, snow-covered sidewalks to go Christmas shopping. No, just no.

It was very entertaining and informative.

After I had carpet tunnel surgery, I blithely assured the nurse that I could drive myself home. "Honey, you do know that's the drugs talking?" she asked. 😁
