This month's recs were Sam and Daniel friendship and AU. Aside from the links to the current recs, I have also included links to previous recommendations in this category that I would have recced this month, too, if I'd been prescient enough to save them for the appropriate occasion.
Please note that the links lead to the full recommendation in stargateficrec and not to the fics themselves. The recommendations include warnings (character death, violence, etc.); pairings (if any); a brief description; a snippet of the story; and links, when available, to the author's LJ and website as well as the actual fic. The setup allows you to avoid any spoilers and go directly to the story if that is your preference; just ignore everything in the "Why This Must Be Read" section.
All fics are gen unless otherwise specified.
The master list of fic recs can be found here.
Sam and Daniel friendship recs:
· I Always Hoped You Knew, by Kathy Nahill (PG-13)
· The Right Regrets, by Mara Greengrass (PG)
· Saving Tantalus, by Sam Walker (PG)
· Deranged, by Moonshayde (PG)
· Natural Light, by Otter (PG)
· One Half of the Equation, by Minxy (PG-13)
· No Creeds for Mathematics, by Jennghis Kahn (PG)
Previous recs:
Mostly Harmless, by Betacandy (PG) - a favorite short, fun fic. Sam and Daniel eating breakfast in the commissary and snarking at each other. Daniel's waffle pyramids should not be attempted in the safety of your own home. Direct lead-in to Nemesis.
Effortless, by Kellifer (PG) - beautifully written. Kellifer gives us Sam and Daniel, finally at Atlantis, with Sam sharing in Daniel's joy and taking pleasure in seeing the "meaning of life stuff" light in his eyes after so long.
C'est la Vie, by Sam Walker (PG) - another favorite, and great fun. It's all team, all the time, with a special emphasis on the Sam and Daniel friendship and some great one-sided squabbling - at least, only one side we can hear. Add some excellent cameos from Nyan and Rothman for a light, fluffy story.
AU recs:
· If I Could Go On Sleeping, by Meredith T. Tasaki (PG-13)
· Once Upon a Time in Egypt, by LJ (PG)
· Almost a Statesman, by KatieM (PG)
· Time Was, by Fabrisse (PG-13)
· Mnemophobia, by Tripoli (PG-13/R)
· A Million Days, by Tallulah Rasa (PG)
· The Butterfly Tide, by Kellifer (PG-13)
· Harsh Reality, by Raven (PG)
Previous recs:
Eurydice Ascending, by C. L. Kamnikar (PG-13) – a personal favorite. A left turn into FIAD in which Sha're gets to fight Ammonet for her soul and the entire SGC pitches in to help give Sha're, Sam, and Daniel enough time to get Ammonet to Thor's Hammer before it's too late.
Rearranging Fate, by Redbyrd (PG-13) – another personal favorite. Redbyrd does her usual superb job of extrapolating minor characters from canon and making them incredibly real. We get to follow Kowalksy from POV back through the mirror and meet the Daniel Jackson of their reality as they create a new SG-1.
The Unofficial Evolution Series, by Karen Greim Mullian (R) – harsh but powerful, this AU continues from where Evolution, part 1, leaves off and takes Daniel on a harrowing journey of emotional and physical pain, breakdown, and eventual recovery.
You Can't Always Get What You Want, by Betacandy (PG-13) – this one is in my top three list. It mixes the alternate timeline of Moebius with the current timeline, milks the best bits from both, and combines to give us a delightful, satisfying resolution for poor Daniel, AU Sam and Teal'c, and more than one Jack O'Neill!
