These last two weeks have been insanely busy for me, and this week is too, which is why no recs or updates in the last while. On the other hand,
redial_the_gate SQUEE!!!! Because this week is The Fifth Race, which is the best episode ever.
I got to do this week's recap, but I couldn't include the more subjective stuff, such as how much I love Jack and Daniel, and Jack and Teal'c, and Sam and Daniel, and Sam and Teal'c, and Daniel and Teal'c, and Sam and Jack, and really, the whole team in this one. Teamy goodness personified, which is why the ep is so fantastic. Plus we get superb Hammond and marvelous Janet and flustered Graham Simmons and Siler! For the win, all 'round.
I love how everyone expects Daniel to have all the answers. Jack comes charging in with Teal'c and demands that Daniel figure it all out, right now. And when Daniel and Janet are watching Jack start to draw the detailed diagram of the DHD, again, Janet expects Daniel to be able to explain exactly what's happening.
I love the teamy support, as Sam and Teal'c march determinedly through the Gate to find something to help Jack, and Teal'c is ready to go with him to a different galaxy, and Sam has the courage to warn Hammond not to send a rescue team and the wits to realize that Jack needs a GDO, and Daniel Daniel Daniel never leaving Jack's side, and abandoning the fascinating stuff in a heartbeat for the desperate search for something to save Sam and Teal'c.
...A little too subjective, you think, for a recap? :)
I also regretfully refrained from including all my favorite quotes, because the recap got way too long as it was. :) So here are some of my favorite lines from The Fifth Race:
Teal'c: I do not understand, O'Neill. Are we preparing to dance or to do battle? [moments later, calmly knocks Jack down with a single punch]
Jack: Well, apparently I have lost the falatus to speak properly! ...That wasn't a joke. I didn't do that on purpose.
Hammond: What are you doing?
Jack: I don't know, sir. You know me and computers.
Daniel: And bottom line, sir: what about Jack? I mean, right now I'm possibly his only hope for communicating on any kind of serious level. I can't leave him like this, and I won't.
Science guy: [vague techno-babble]
Hammond to Daniel: Do you understand what he said?
Daniel: It sounds like they have no idea.
Science guy: Well, actually, it's not "no idea," sir. Just... not much of one yet.
Siler: ...But we're working on it!
[later]
Daniel, dumping the mini-ZPM in front of the scientists: Here, you guys can work on this for a while.
Science guy: What is it?
Daniel, hurrying out of the room: No idea. Well, not "no idea," just not much of one yet, but work on it!
(Hee hee hee. And people say Daniel is a nice sweet people person...)
Teal'c, with his usual spare grace: I am sorry, O'Neill. We could not find a way to help you.
Graham Simmons: Chevron seven... is encoded?
Hammond, to a silent Jack: I'm just supposed to let you go?
Daniel, very quietly: He's already gone, General.
Teal'c: I will accompany you, O'Neill.
Graham Simmons: We've... lost the traveler.
Asgard: You have already taken the first steps towards becoming the Fifth Race.
Jack, to Daniel: You know that meaning of life stuff? I think we're going to be all right.
No Sam quotes, sadly, but that's because her fantasticness came through more in facial expressions and actions this time. Trust me, I loved her here, too!
I hope to have time to come online from time to time to respond to comments, here and at Redial. Other than that, I'll see you all next week. :)
