There are still ten letters left to claim for Jack Alpha-Bits. If you're interested in signing up to write at least 100 words on Jack, please check out the link and claim a letter!

(I've snagged B for myself, but if anyone would prefer B to one of the remaining letters, I'd be happy to swap - any ideas are still in the "something extremely vague" department.)

Tomorrow's my last day online for a couple of weeks, so I'd be very happy if we got all the letters claimed by then. Spread the word to your flists, please, and let's have some Jack squee!

ETA: Eight left, now...

If there are any left nearer to the due date, let me know and I'll claim a second one.

Thanks for the offer, Betty. :) But we managed the last two Alphabet Soups under a policy of one letter per author, and I do hope we can manage it for Jack, too!

That's sure more fun. Fingers crossed! (And, really, who doesn't want to write about Jack?)

I'm thinking of giving this a go even though I've never written SG-1 fic...

Now which letter... I'm torn between X and Z... but I think I'll go for Z.

(BTW "Zales" is spelt X'els - with that all important apostrophe)

I'm now a little nervous

Oh, good! The end of the alphabet needed some attention! :)

Re X'els vs. Zales - is that based on Native American mythology, or Gateworld?
Wednesday, September 24th, 2008 02:47 pm (UTC)
Gateworld *Hides under the nearest desk*

Personally - I'd prefer Zales - then if what I'm thinking of doesn't pan out I've got a whole "Spirits" angle to explore.

::grins:: If you google for "Salish Spirits," some of the very first hits are SG-1 related...

I'd say you could spell it as you'd like. They're not Goa'uld related, so why should they have extraneous apostrophes, anyway? No one will mind if you spell it Zales. Or Z'ales. Although Z'a'l'e's might get you some sideways looks. :)

Heh! SG-1 LURVES the apostrophes. I'm surprised they did't have characters spelt "Samantha Ca'ter", "Daniel Jac'son", "Val'a Maldoran" and "Cameron Mi'chell". "General Ham'ond" or "Hank Land'ry" anyone?

All those apostrophes - they freak me out. A bit like when I see "O'Neill picked up Teal'c's staff weapon" or something similar. TOO MANY APOSTROPHES!!!

I was wondering why Jack would be wondering about a jewelry store chain when I saw "Zales".

Oh, Xe'ls!

Xe'ls is how it's spelt in "Spirits" captioning as well. I know that's not always accurate either, but it is how Solutions named him..

And Alex Zahara on his website. I would hope he knew what his character was called. ;-) http://www.alexzahara.com/

Ooh, neat link! Thanks.

Okay, yes, fine. ::pouts:: But I still say she can use Zales if she really wants to! :)

Yeah, I'd originally seen it in the subtitles (I think I got curious about the spelling once) and then checked in the transcripts at Gateworld - not having carted all my SG-1 DVDs with me to work!

The GATEWORLD transcripts?! Gah! You wound me, you cut me to the quick! *flails dramatically in overwrought virtual death scene* ;-)

Did I say "Gateworld"? I meant "Google" - and Gateworld was the first link... It's true - try Googling "Spirits SG-1"!!!

I'm usually allergic to Gateworld.

Here's a handy (http://www.stargate-sg1-solutions.com/wiki/Transcripts) transcript reference for possible bookmarking. :)

My life is INSANE until October 19th (holidays + 2 midterms + 4 30 minute in-class presentations + 1 4 day trip to the other end of the country + 1 friend visiting for a weekend, all, you know, on top of the normal stuff) but, um, if that point hits and something's still unclaimed and my brain hasn't yet turned into a giant puddle of mushy goo, I'll run over and try to write something...

[that said, have a fantastic couple of weeks! Shanah Tovah! I'd say we'll miss you but I might be too busy to notice :) ]

Yeah, abyssis told me that literally translates to "Sweet New Year" which I think sounds awesome because it makes me think of dessert, and I like dessert.

(If it doesn't fig, don't correct me; I like living in my happy world of honey and cake).

Sweet New Year to you both!

Honey cake and apples and challah dipped in honey, yep!

And thanks. :)

Like I'll complain if I get extra gen fic for Gen Fic Day? I think NOT. :)

Have a sweet and happy and peaceful and satisfying year. :)

Sweet New Year? Excellent! Shanah Tovah to you both, then. :) Have a lovely time, Fig!

Thank you, Pepper! :)

I deleted this post from the Claims list, so nobody would think W was claimed when it wasn't. However, I'll put myself on record alongside Betty as available to cover a second letter if it becomes necessary. My second letter is W.

Original post/offer (from the claims post):

I don't know how/when we get ourselves listed as "back-ups". I've already claimed a letter [M] for a "real" (multipage) plot bunny, but if you need a back-up for W, I was accosted by a Jack-flavored ficlet that materialized in my brain after I read the last few posts [X through U on the claims post]. I've sequestered the ficlet on my hard drive for now, but can release it if it becomes necessary. I know the goal is to have a different author for each letter, but...if nobody claims W, there is fluffy gen ficlet out there.

I wanted to thank you for this! :) I will definitely add you to the back-up list, and if turns out to be unnecessary... well, it is Gen Fic Day, y'know, not Alphabet Soup Day. We've had at least two instances where authors (Random and Lokei, I think) had multiple entries and posted the extras as regular Gen Fic Day stories. We'll gladly take 'em all!

i was wondering in the middle of the night if i had signed up for this or not, and i even emailed you while you were out of town....sorry to be so flaily.

this is the latest and definitive thing I want to communicate though:

it looks like I, in my ramblings, did NOT ask to claim a letter, and if I did somehow ask to claim a letter I want to renege.

I really shouldn't try to participate! So I'm a reader not a writer this time.

Sorry to be so confused. And thanks for all the fic and so forth.

*flails*
