Sure, I can be excited now, with the deadline a safe and comfortable six months away...

But one of the things on my to-do list for next year is writing longer fics. And, so, well: [livejournal.com profile] stargate_summer!

50,000 words due by May 15. I can do that, right?

...Right? :)

1000 a day is a sound goal. That'll give you the first draft in just under two months.

I think that ficathon is the way to spot all the crazy people in fandom.
Monday, December 15th, 2008 10:25 am (UTC)
do eet!

figure out a daily word count and go for it!
Monday, December 15th, 2008 12:28 pm (UTC)
I'm going to do it too...

Here's hoping!
Monday, December 15th, 2008 03:22 pm (UTC)
You go, girl!! That's an ambitious goal, but I'm already looking forward to reading your novel. :D

Hurry and get started on it already!!

Something tells me I'm going to need a "running around in circles and screaming" icon before I'm done...

I can't work well be word counts. Sections at a time, maybe.

And HAH.
Monday, December 15th, 2008 03:31 pm (UTC)
Oh, I will cheerfully confess to my insanity! I seem to be in good company, anyway. :)
Monday, December 15th, 2008 03:32 pm (UTC)
Experience tells me I can't work with daily word counts. I deal best with scenes, or sections. It's not word count that matters; it's completing the idea or the event or the conversation that matters.

Mind you, I will have to pay careful attention to word count, in the end...
Monday, December 15th, 2008 03:34 pm (UTC)
Yay! We will run around screaming in circles together!
Monday, December 15th, 2008 03:35 pm (UTC)
::grins:: You should sign up as cheerleader!
Monday, December 15th, 2008 03:36 pm (UTC)
You can do that!!!! *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/*

(Hee! Your icon is perfect!)
Monday, December 15th, 2008 04:30 pm (UTC)
With my flist as built-in cheerleaders, it'll be easy!
Monday, December 15th, 2008 05:28 pm (UTC)
Awesome! There should be more ficathons for longer stories-there aren't enough of them by far. Well, that's pretty long, but... Hmmm. I won't sign up until I can think of a plot that can stand up to that kind of length, but I think I can do that. Thanks for pointing it out, and can't wait to read yours!
Monday, December 15th, 2008 05:50 pm (UTC)
Doesn't this look like fun?! I've been thinking about it too. We'll see. Maybe. I've never written a story that long before. It might actually have to have plot. Do I know how to do that?

But you should definitely go for it! We'll be cheering--and waiting!
Monday, December 15th, 2008 05:57 pm (UTC)
There probably aren't too many ficathons like this because, well, you need six months' notice... :)

And you can absolutely wait to sign up. The rules are very specific about that. In fact, you can see how far you get and wait until May 15th to sign up in the first place!

I wanted to write long fic next year. This should be the perfect way to do it. I hope. :)
Monday, December 15th, 2008 05:58 pm (UTC)
The comm looks like it will be very supportive and encouraging, complete with supplying you with betas AND cheerleaders if necessary! So - why not give it a try? :)
Monday, December 15th, 2008 06:27 pm (UTC)
[livejournal.com profile] ultranos_fic and I are INSANE. I am so very terrifies of this fic we're writing.
Monday, December 15th, 2008 09:08 pm (UTC)
whoohoo! six months for 50,000 doesn't seem as daunting when you've tried facing it in a month that you spend ten days out of town madly working all hours of the night... I was crazy to try that then, but I'm confident ya'alls can do it in six months! *waves pompoms*

The saddest part is waiting until next summer to read all the good stuff that's going to come out of the ficathon!!
Monday, December 15th, 2008 09:23 pm (UTC)
You can do it. You just have to decide you want to badly enough. It may take a while to work up to it, but you can do it.
Monday, December 15th, 2008 11:20 pm (UTC)
I agree with [livejournal.com profile] tejas. You can do it.

In the meantime, consider this your first cheerleading present. It's not 'running around in circles and screaming', but since I'm not up to animations yet, it'll have to do.

Hey, we all have to find what works by trial and error. I've used daily word counts, daily time slots, and the "finish one scene every day" method, at different times.

I just meant, whatever method of dividing it up into manageable chunks that works for you, I guess.

In any case, I'm cheering for you!

::LOVES::

:) :)

May I impose and ask a favor? I know it may seem bizarre, but "hell" really is not part of my vocabulary and I won't feel comfortable having it in an icon. Would it be terribly difficult to change the text? Maybe "foul WIP" or "evil WIP" or something?

Seriously, made of win! :)
Tuesday, December 16th, 2008 07:41 am (UTC)
Hurray for cheerleading flists! :D
Tuesday, December 16th, 2008 07:42 am (UTC)
Thank you! And you're right - sometimes you do have to change methods, and find what works best. We'll just have to see how it goes... :)
Tuesday, December 16th, 2008 07:43 am (UTC)
That fic has been stalking you! I know it's a huge undertaking, but I must say I'm very pleased for you that now you're going to get it done! :)
