In 2008, I started the year by offering ficlets by request. I loved the kick start, and hey, [livejournal.com profile] stargate_summer isn't due for ages, so who cares if I only have scenes in my head and nothing actually written down yet? ;)

So, comment here with a team prompt - a phrase, a quote, an icon - and I'll write you a ficlet between 100 and 1,000 words. Classic team only (sorry, Vala and Mitchell fans), and obviously gen! I'll do at least ten. I won't commit myself to the first ten on the list, but I'll try to give those priority.

I never get tired of plumbing the depths of how Daniel managed to become truly friends with Teal'c. How about something like that? Possibly set inside the Thor's Hammer episode, or sometime in Season 1.

Happy new year!

I wasn't clear enough - I want this to be team ficlets, rather than friendship or individual character ficlets. I've edited the post to make that more obvious. But Teal'c and Daniel are so marvelous together than I will try to work this into a teamy prompt. How's that? :)

Oh, sorry! You're right: I read right past the Team Focus idea. Sorry about that. Well, if you can make it work, that's great! Otherwise I bow to the other teamy plots. Whatever works for you will be great by me.

Yay! Stories! Here's an icon. Le't see what it inspires... : )

Don't ask me why, but your icon inspired this!
Tuesday, January 13th, 2009 11:49 pm (UTC)
I adore it! And I didn't see the punch line coming at all! I'm still giggling...
Tuesday, January 13th, 2009 11:50 pm (UTC)
Yay! :D

Yay! Ficlets by [livejournal.com profile] sg_fignewton! I'm not too proud to beg... er, I mean ask. :)

How about using the phrase made famous by John Lennon, "I get by with a little help from my friends"? Angsty or fun, it's all good.

Hope 2009 is your best year yet!!

A great prompt! The ficlet is here. :)
Sunday, January 4th, 2009 05:24 pm (UTC)
Well, since you're asking...

How about either Teal'c introduces team to something (or a food) from his native culture, or team introduces Teal'c to some activity (or a food) from theirs.

(And I have not forgotten your icon(s) prompt. It was one of the WIPs that is lost somewhere on my harddrive. If I don't find it soon, I'll restart. Silly muse not understanding the concept of *comment* fic).

this was prompted by something I saw in sam_daily so I will just toss it out there.

What if the various groups in Shades of Gray wanted Sam to be their undercover girl instead of Jack? What motivation could she have used (no, I just don't see her grabbing tech off the wall and huffing off with it in her arms and her proverbial finger in the air either!). Would she have been successful at hiding it from the rest of the team? Would Makepeace have been exposed?

I have answers in my own head for some of these questions but think it bears exploring from multiple angles and starting with gen. Whatcha think?
Monday, January 5th, 2009 06:45 am (UTC)
...Wow. That does suggest some ideas, although very Sam-centric - I don't think I could make it into a team ficlet! I'm going to come back to this one, though.
Tuesday, January 6th, 2009 08:59 pm (UTC)
in terms of "team," I was thinking a starter that shows them together at the point where Sam does her breakaway thing...nothing in anyone's head. But I am intrigued by the whole idea!

I remember reading this story once upon a time and of course thankfully one of the authors listed it at redial fanworks for the episode!

Fragile Balance (http://www.users.bigpond.com/seldear/words/fanfic/stargate/fragile0.htm) by [livejournal.com profile] seldear and Denise (I think her lj name is skydiver but it may have some numbers after it).

Not that you shouldn't write one too if you wanted, fig. :-)

SG1 deals with the Twilight phenomenon; someones reading it, loves it, hates it, is forced to go see the movie, whatever.
Monday, January 5th, 2009 01:03 am (UTC)
I'd love to see this one :D Jack forced to see Twilight :D

Sunday, January 4th, 2009 08:06 pm (UTC)
Oh, fun! Let's see...

After psyche evals gone wrong the team is forced into group therapy. Bonus points if Teal'c really gets into it.

In Proving Ground, Jack says "Daniel's had it so easy on this one", while Daniel says "I like this scenario way better than the last one" and "you did tell them to take me prisoner this time and not shoot me, right?".

What happened during SG-1's previous stint running a training scenario?
Tuesday, January 6th, 2009 07:07 am (UTC)
I've wondered about that previous training scenario, too. :-)

Prompt: Classic children's literature. Does an offworld destination resemble a piece of kidlit a little too much for comfort? Does Daniel have lapses in his education that need to be remedied? Do the books offered to Rya'c manage to bridge the cultural gap? Does Cassie like green eggs and ham....? Gophorit...
Monday, January 5th, 2009 06:47 am (UTC)
I've done something vaguely like this before, but way too fun a prompt to skip! We'll see what I can do. :)
Monday, January 5th, 2009 07:48 am (UTC)
OMG! How did I miss THAT! ROFL! Also EEEEEEEEEEE! (Since Jack is perfectly right about it being the greatest movie of all time...)

*snicker*

Refrains heroically from using either of my Total Spoiler Icons....
Monday, January 5th, 2009 07:27 pm (UTC)
Hee! Well, glad you caught it now. :)

And naturally, Jack would have his priorities straight.
Tuesday, January 13th, 2009 10:40 pm (UTC)
Erm. Not quite sure how "classic children's literature" morphed into this, but, well - heh. :)
Monday, January 5th, 2009 01:07 am (UTC)
General Hammond and a road trip is all I can think of :)
Monday, January 5th, 2009 01:08 am (UTC)
I should say The team and General Hammond on a road trip.
Monday, January 5th, 2009 06:47 am (UTC)
Yay for George! This one has definite possibilities!
Monday, January 5th, 2009 08:37 am (UTC)
\0/ yay for me. I made a decent suggestion :D

Oh boy! What a great bunch of prompts! *claps hands with delight*
Tuesday, January 6th, 2009 06:56 am (UTC)
[Evil laughter] Oooh, you let an evil little scenario out of confinement. :-D Although the teamy moment I'd like to see is brief, several thoughts collided to create it.

Kernel #1: How much, if any, of the details of Shifu's "teaching dream" did Daniel include in his report or discuss with the rest of SG-1? Specifically, did he ever mention vaporizing Moscow?

Kernel #2: In early season 7, Daniel's pre-ascension memories did not return in an orderly fashion, but came as scattered pieces that had to be put back in context (if/when he recalled the context) and gradually reassembled into a properly-connected and coherent whole.

Query #1: Without proper context, would Daniel be able to recognize that memories from the teaching dream were not memories of actual events?

Query #2: How would SG-1 react to casual reference to a horrific event that happened only in that teaching dream?

Your mission (prompt), should you choose to accept it: Describe the moment of confusion/shock/astonishment/horror/disbelief experienced by SG-1 when Daniel makes casual reference to "blowing up Moscow". You can have Daniel actually asking, "Did/Didn't I blow up Moscow?" or have him assuming the memory is correct, "But how can we get a message from Moscow? I totally vaporized it." If Daniel never told anyone about that detail of his dream, half the fun could be having SG-1 figure out why he thinks he blew up Moscow. I don't need a big story around this image; I'd be happy with just the moment of reaction and realization. :-)

Even if this nugget doesn't get written up, Fig, thanks for the opportunity to share a persistent image. :-)

I'd like to have a team fic relating to this icon "Waiting for Daniel...Again." I'm sure you can come up with a good pic of crack!fic that will do justice to this icon. :)
