I feel silly having to announce it up front, but... yes, I'll be trimming my flist a bit. There are a few people who haven't talked Stargate in quite some time. I'm always pleased for other people when they find new fandoms and squee, but LJ is strictly SG-1 for me, so... ::shrugs::

I would like to remind anyone reading my posts that I never put anything behind a friends' lock (unless we're arranging birthday surprises, heh). If you want to just lurk quietly, that's fine, but I adore discussions! I keep my flist small because I use it as a reading list. I read SG-1 gen fic, and SG-1 meta, and SG-1 squee. That's pretty exclusive. My own LJ is inclusive, though. Everyone's welcome!

If you think I've dropped you from my reading list by mistake, or that I'd enjoy reading your posts on a regular basis, please comment and say so! The more squee, the better, I always say. :)

On a whim, I checked my f-list for the first time in months -- and this is up top. I haven't *talked* SG-1 in my LJ in a really long time. (Actually, I haven't discussed anything in my LJ in a really long time.) If you want to trim me, I understand. I won't claim to be thrilled by it - hey, I like having a large f-list even if I have been neglecting it - but I won't be offended and snit-prone, either. :)

When I do finally figure out how to wrangle more interactive online time into my daily schedule, I'll still be around to read your LJ and harass you talk about SG-1.

Ah, but I have no problem with people who rarely post - it's frequent posts about completely different fandoms that I want to trim. Er, did trim, already.

I'm all for harrassment discussion about SG-1, any time, any LJ. :)

I think a lot of us are in a bit of a holding pattern with regard to SG-1 talk. After the last couple of seasons, I almost feel like I need time off to heal. :-) Suffice to say, they left a bad taste in my mouth, no matter how much I tried to appreciate what they were trying to do (and the occasional kick ass episode).

Still, I'll keep writing classic SG-1 and I'll keep reading others talking about it (love your fanon vs. canon). Maybe one of these days I'll get enough distance from what I consider an ignoble end to a terrific series to get a good sense of just what I think about it.

In the end, though, check the icon. :-) Stargate will always be with us. :-)

I tried to like S9-10 and failed rather spectactularly - the rare really good ep notwithstanding, as you say. I'm happy for those who love Vala or Mitchell (even if I haven't found anyone yet who really likes Landry, heh), but this LJ has always been classic SG-1.

Thanks for your enthusiastic participation in all the discussions! Yes, SG-1 will be around for a long, long time. :)

Team Classic is the best. ;-);-)

I mourn for the story lines never truly explored.

perhaps we can also celebrate the story lines never truly explored by some awesome fanfic??

(Raises hand and waves tentatively) Um! I do . . . like Landry that is. So you can officially say that you've met someone. When I write General Jack stories, I usually stick Landry in there in a positive light cause I think he is a very believable Jack friend. But, maybe that's just ME. (grin) I also like the actor who plays him.

I understand your desire to trim. LJ is Stargate to me as well. So much so that I've considered starting another whole account for other (more personal) writings. But the thought of getting a whole new friend base is daunting, so I keep my personal writings on my hard drive or in emails.

Oooh, interesting!

Do you see him strictly as a good friend of Jack, or do you really see him as a good commander? And if the latter, could you elaborate? Because aside from him being not-Hammond, I really thought he made a lousy CO. I'd love to hear your take.

I absolutely sympathize with liking an actor and therefore liking the character. It's never actually worked for me personally, but I'm glad it works for you. :)

From my perspective, he started out well. I mainly base that on the fact that the characters responded to him well. I'm trusting that the characters wouldn't like someone who was a "bad" CO. For instance, in regards to General Bauer, the members of SG1 did not like him at all. Teal'c won't follow someone that he doesn't respect.

I barely watched the Ori (or bore-i) episodes, so I'm basing my opinion on early eps in Season 9. In fact, you'll never see the Ori mentioned in one of my fics. I'm living in a fantasy land where they never happened. In that fantasy land, I make a responsive General Landry who cares about his people, takes his responsibility to Earth/the U.S seriously, and doesn't let his daughter's pissy attitude interfere with his decision making. (Don't get me started on HER because I can't believe a doctor would act so unprofessionally nor present so coldly to her patients. And she probably wouldn't have made it into the SGC no matter HOW many strings her father/general tried to pull.)

Generals (in general) were written too lightly in later episodes of Stargate (IMHO). I know what Mr. Bridges is capable of doing. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. :-)

Ah. So, nothing really canon, then?

While I agree with you re the Ori, I did watch nearly all of S9-10, so I have a wider perspective. It's interesting that one of your proofs - that the team/SGC seem to respect him - is actually one of my dislikes: that Landry demands respect without ever having done anything to earn it.

To be fair, I thought he was really good once! :) When he stared down Nerus and threatened him with hunger. Very well done.

Other than that, though, he seemed amazingly ineffectual to me. He spent most of his time toeing the line with the IOA. I have no problem with the actor, even though I've never seen him before, but Landry? More power to you, but to me he was just ugh.

But oooh, WORD on Lam. I didn't mind her attitude with anyone but Landry (anything was better than Brightman, heh) but whew! Very unprofessional where dear Dad was concerned. I hated, hated that subplot. Lam should have stood on her merits as a doctor, not a forced drama of fathers and daughters.

OTOH, the woman who played her mother was stunning. :)

Generals (in general) were written too lightly in later episodes of Stargate

I agree that the quality went down pretty quickly after Hammond, sigh. I adore Jack to pieces, but he wasn't a very good general.

I love all the SG-1 I can get but I understand the flist trim. I'm doing the same myself. I'd love to stay on but if you feel the need to drop me, I understand and no hard feelings.

I really don't like Hailey and Proving Ground et al, but your icon is love! :D

I'm always happy to talk, and the truth is, I see much of what isn't on my flist when I skim the debrief list for gen tagging. It's just a question of wanting all SG-1 and no politics or other fandoms cluttering up the flist. :)
Thursday, February 5th, 2009 12:17 am (UTC)
I love this icon because I'm an SG-1 wannabee and I admit it! :D

I will be having a mixture of subjects but there will always be SG-1 fic!!! Last year I think I wrote one maybe two fics. I plan to do much, much more writing. I'm going back to my fandom roots.
Thursday, February 5th, 2009 12:25 am (UTC)
Hooray! More Sela fic!
Wednesday, February 4th, 2009 09:24 pm (UTC)
I get it, I do. I feared I was chasing off old SG friends with my lack of SG-ness.

I will miss your dancing SG icon on my flist and your unfailing squee for a show that I miss. :)

::squishes Kellifer::

::uses Daniel dance of squee icon::

When you wander back to SG-1, sweetie, I'll be there in a jiffy. :)

I like reading your posts about writing and learning things from you. I can understand your decision (I don't even know if I'd made it onto your list yet :D) You'll be one of the first to hear when I post the eventual fanfic (and one of them is a Teal'c and Jack story) :D
Thursday, February 5th, 2009 02:18 pm (UTC)
Yay for more fic!

Jack and Teal'c friendship - always awesome. :)
