February: fandom, fics, meta, recs

I'm a little late with this, but here's the round-up for February: fandom, fics, meta, and recs.

In Fandom

The Gen Battle took place this month! Actually, the deadline was extended a bit, and it's ending today. So if anyone wants to dash off a quick SG-1 commentfic, check out the varied list of prompts!

We had this year's first Gen Fic Day at the beginning of the month. More recs than new fics this time around, but who cares? :) You'll find lots to peruse over at the round-up.

phoenix_gate is already active! This is a great new comm with prompts for beloved character that have vanished into the ether. Go stake a claim for fic or other fanworks about Jacob or Jonas or Sha're or Catherine or the Asgard or the Nox or the Furlings or the Tollan!

tealc_ficathon had gone live with sign-ups! I'm very excited about this, because Teal'c is awesome beyond words and always needs more fic than he gets. This is the first Teal'c ficathon since July 2006, so go show some support for our favorite Jaffa!

And speaking of fic genres that need more love (even if not that way, heh), there's also the jacksamfriends ficathon. Stories need only be 500 words, and they're due by March 30. Anyone could technically sign up as late as March 29, so if you want to snatch a grab bag of prompts about Jack and Sam, now's the time.

On the more multi-fandom level, there's also the rallying call to take back the glee! with a call for gleeful (or even squeeful, I suppose) prompts at carnivalofsquee. Why not go add lots of gen prompts to the list? :)

Whew. No wonder this month has felt busy! And that's not even taking stargate_summer into account, which I have, er, at least discussed with my beta. Even if I haven't actually typed a single word yet.

In Fic

So, remember that Ten for the Team challenge, where I offered prompts back in January? And then I thought I was going to finish it in February...?

Um, let's just say they'll all get done! But after this last month's experience, my sole commitment is going to be to the calendar year of 2009. :)

I did get some fic written, though:

Team Effort. The team gets thrown into prison. Luckily, the effort to train Daniel in self-defense has been all-inclusive... PG for some rather pointed villainous whumping.

The Daniel Jackson Theory of Hairy Relativity. Shameless cracky team silliness that was criminally fun to write! Daniel has a theory and is determined to share it. Rated G, possibly for goofiness. :)

Line in the Sand. Sha'uri takes her first steps on the road to rebelling against Ra. I'm very pleased to finally write something in Sha're's voice. Pre-series, and rated PG.

Dreadful Disappointment. Teal'c is devastated by the deconstruction of a legend, and SG-1 can't console him. Only slightly cracky this time! :) Rated G.

Meta

I hadn't actually intended to write Canon vs. Fanon, part 19: Sarcophagus Use this month. It started as a few lines of meta, and then, well, it just kept going... :) As always, marvelous discussions and theories in the comments that are well worth reading.

Recs

I recced my usual two categories at stargateficrec in February: Jack and Daniel friendship, a well-loved old favorite, and Jack and Sam friendship, which always deserves more attention than it actually gets.

Thanks for the rec! (But it's "Aelfgyfu"; the spelling is wrong here. Spelled just like it sounds--in Old English.)

I originally chose the name purely for my own use, to sign on to a bulletin board where I only meant to read about Stargate and not to post. You can imagine how long that lasted! If I'd known I would end up writing fic, I might have chosen something a little more memorable (or at least easier to spell).

Oh, I like your name quite a lot. :) But "alef" is the first letter of the Hebrew alphabet, so, well - like I said. It's a question of what's habit for my fingers on a keyboard. :D
