Wow. Over forty stories in the [profile] sd_ficathon ! It's great to see Sam and Daniel getting so much love. :)

I'm going to take it slowly, reading one or two fics per day, so I can enjoy these properly. [profile] abyssinia4077 beat me to volunteering for the Sam and Daniel friendship category for [community profile] stargateficrec next month, but I've got our Wonder Twins in July, and I don't think Abyssis will manage to steal all of my recs away from me! :)

Those of you who wrote actually Sam/Daniel pairings with higher ratings won't be offended, I hope, if I skip those. It's my gen genes, y'see. I will try to look over the Sam/Daniel fics with lower ratings.

Thank you to [personal profile] aurora_novarum, who did such a lovely job of writing my prompt, and to [profile] niamaea for liking what I did with hers! :)

I'm sure you'll steal lots of fics on my rec list, and more power to you. :) Do leave me Rigel's Scraps and Scribbles, though, okay? I've been wanting to rec that one for months.

The only ship I'll ordinarily read is Daniel/Sha're. I love my teamy goodness too much to even bother trying other stuff, under normal circumstances! But even for Daniel and Sha're, I don't care to read the more adult fics (not that I think too many of those exist) - even aside from the shipping/gen question, I don't want to read detailed sexual situations. Call it a personal preference if you'd like.

The only Daniel/Sha're fic that I ever read that suits the criteria of your question is Tafkar's amazing Winter Gifts. With that one, I was sucked into the story almost from paragraph one, and just did a lot of skimming - since the "adult" scenes were more or less in chunks, it was relatively easy to jump from the beginning of each one to its end. I loved it for Tafkar's vision of Abydos, Daniel's ongoing efforts to integrate into society, Skaara's shameless manipulation of Daniel and his teenaged behavior, and Sha're's powerful and playful personality. A really wonderful read, even with skimming included. :)

As for my ficzilla, it'll wait patiently enough. I'm working my way verrry slowly down the list and haven't gotten to yours yet, either!

I'm sure I'll steal lots too - but I'm sure I'll leave some. And I'll be happy to leave you Scraps and Scribbles. I mean, assuming they actually okay me reccing that category anyway.

I totally understand your personal preference. I've grown more lenient in my own personal preferences, but I used to never click on the higher rated ship fics - now I usually skim over the sex parts if I read them, and usually then only authors I trust or fics I've seen recced from sources I trust - so I can usually know there's more to the fic than just the ship or sex (something interesting about the characters). But I definitely understand where you're coming from.

I admit, when I posted "Preserve your Memories" I was curious whether you'd read it and, if so, whether you'd like it - since it unquestionably contains Sam/Daniel ship and yet is a gen/friendship story at its core, despite everything and two sex scenes (which were tiny and had me flailing because I never, ever, ever thought I'd find myself writing that and just couldn't be explicit (not that I wanted to) but which were important to the story).

Ooh, I haven't seen that fic, and I *love* stories that show us more of Abydos life. *saves on to-read list*

It'll be a bit for ficzilla - I think tonight I'll get to start working my way through the list. I'm so excited! So many stories!

It's not so much a mental block against romance of any kind as much as it's a discomfort with reading explicit scenes. I'm a long-time fan of Lois and Clark and the genre is practically romance by definition! But that fandom has always been very careful to keep "gfic" and "nfic," as they term it, very well segregated, so it was easy for me to stick to what I'd like.

SG-1 is different, in that it's the teamy goodness (and Daniel!) that I love most, and pairings seem to interfere, or even destroy, the team dynamic. So no, I didn't read your story. But since you mention it, I'll go ahead and give it a try. :)

I'm almost halfway through the list now! I don't want to read too many at once; that'll just spoil it. And whew, there are a lot. Lucky us!

I get that. In my previous fandom the stories were all either gen or slash - predominately gen, with most of the slash not going beyond a single kiss (or implied kiss) so I didn't encounter lots of explicit fic until Stargate and...it made me squirm. I think a long time ago I wrote about this in more detail, but I feel like I'm invading the privacy of the characters and actors somehow and that makes me feel awkward. So if I'm going to read a story with those elements, it has to have enough of the rest (character insights, interesting plot, etc) to make the discomfort worth it.

I agree SG-1 shines in the teamy goodness moments - but, for me, it's also the first fandom where I've found myself curious to really read the ship fics also - just not the ones that don't also acknowledge the importance of the rest of the team :)

Yay halfway through! I get to start soon...
