So, gone for nearly a week. What did I miss? A very quick flyby through [livejournal.com profile] sg1debrief tagging isn't really sufficient to properly catch up with fandom! If you've posted anything that you think would interest me, drop a comment here. Amusing posts, meta, recs, random bursts of squee... :)

Things I did notice in my hasty skimming of posts for the comm:

The Fluff Awards are officially in the voting stage! My old fandom used the term WAFFy - warm and fuzzy feelings - but fluff works nicely, too. :) As I gloated three weeks ago when they were first putting the ballots together, I've recced 26 out of 32 stories that are nominated in the Gen section. I did manage to vote, although I skipped the category were my own fic was nominated. :) It wasn't easy - I chose the story that best represented the category, rather than the fic I liked best (because really, that would've been impossible.) Go and vote! The advantage of fluffy, waffy fics is that they're mostly short, quick reads, and they leave you smiling.

Hit the Road, by [livejournal.com profile] annerbhp. Teal'c and Vala on a road trip. Light-hearted, moving, thoughtful, pensive. If a non-Vala fan like me can love it, I can't imagine what Vala fans will think! And Teal'c is just... oh, Teal'c. Go read!

H is for Hieroglyphs, by [livejournal.com profile] lokei. I somehow missed this when it was first posted. This is rich and gentle, with some lovely grace touches of friendship, but it is utterly and wholly Daniel. Don't forget to scroll through the comments for [livejournal.com profile] quarryquest's beautiful rendering of Daniel's wish to be remembered.

On the more light-hearted side, there's lots of action between seasons over at [livejournal.com profile] redial_the_gate: Aurora's Season Two Trivia Quiz (yes, the correct answers often really are the silly ones!), the Season 3 Rewatch Poll to decide which eps will have international chats, and the Season Three Icon Challenge, which is still taking submissions for another week. Speaking as a mod who has shamelessly abused her modly powers to get a sneak peak at the icons that have already been submitted, I can say without hesitation that they are absolutely gorgeous. Two of them, in particular, turn this particular Abydos fan into a hopeless puddle of goo.  I hope we gets lots more submissions! We already have enough to require two rounds of voting, so why not more? :)

Hmm, fandom seems pretty busy now. Should I put my plans for Gen Fic Day and Teal'c Alphabet Soup on hold?

...

Nah. ;)

It's four weeks to Daniel Jackson's birthday. Because I am insatiably greedy for SG-1 gen fic, I have arbitrarily decided to celebrate by declaring July 8 to be SG-1 Gen Fic Day!

Just because there were over twenty awesome gen fics posted last week at the [livejournal.com profile] sg1friendathon doesn't mean I can't want more. No, it doesn't. So there.

If you're new to SG-1 Gen Fic Day, the premise is simple: it's a day to celebrate gen fic for SG-1. A post goes up on the day itself, and any member of the fandom is welcome to comment with gen fic.  Any length, any topic, new fic or WIP or rec or commentfic or old story, even pictures with (gen) captions: as long as it's SG-1 and gen, it qualifies! Paste it into the comment or link to your own LJ or web page. On the day after, I'll post an organized round-up of all fics, recs, and miscellany.

To get a clearer idea, you can check out previous SG-1 Gen Fic Days, which were held in October, January, and April.

Besides the SG-1 Gen Fic Day's open post for anything gen, we'll also celebrate with another serving of Alphabet Soup!

New to that, too? Alphabet Soup is an accidental series that started as a Sam birthday tribute to Abyssis and then continued with Daniel. This time, we'll commemorate Daniel's birthday (and Gen Fic Day) by serving up Teal'c-flavored Alphabet Soup. Because Teal'c and Daniel's friendship defies all sense and reason, and they have the most amazing closeness anyway.

Yes, we'll get to Jack, too. And yes, I want to do Teal'c Alphabet Soup first.

I'll be putting up a claims post for Teal'c Alphabet Soup shortly, with more detailed explanations. In the meantime, though... Gen Fic Day! Wheeeee!

ETA: The claims post for Teal'c Alphabet Soup went up last night. Sixteen letters have already been claimed! If you want to participate, head over to the claims post and take a look at what's left.
