Shyla was fixated on Daniel as her "destiny," right? But that does make you wonder why she allowed Daniel to get carted off to the mines in the first place. How could she marry him if he was slaving away in the mines? If SG-1 hadn't tried their break-out, what did Shyla have planned? Was she going to summon him and, as per all those delightfully cliched fanfics, have him bathed and perfumed (with naquadah-enhanced mousse for his hair, naturally) and presented to her? How would she have coaxed a healthy Daniel into the sarcophagus? Would she have tried that route at all, or just assumed that he'd go along with her plans in gratitude for the release from the mines? How would Need have changed, if Daniel hadn't nearly been killed?
We can depart from canon a little later for other possible scenarios, too. Before entering the sarc a second time, Daniel urged Shyla to release the rest of SG-1 and send them home, promising to stay behind and keep her company for a while. A non-sarc'd Daniel would have never let it get beyond polite conversation, but Shyla, at that time, didn't know it, so she might have agreed to it. Of course, once Shyla realized that Daniel wasn't going to cooperate as she wished, Daniel might have found himself entering the realm of cliched fanfic again, either via forced sarc usage or even prison, a la distressed damsels being confined until they agree to marry the villain.
What then? If Daniel told SG-1 that he'd be along in a little while, as soon as he had placated the princess, how long before a rescue mission was sent to extract him? Would Daniel be rescued, if Shyla offered to exchange her new pet for access to the naquadah mines and some of those nifty weapon they'd confiscated? Kinsey, certainly, would have considered it a bargain. And there we enter fanon territory again.
Come to think of it, the whole ep, even without venturing into AU territory, was a cliché, wasn't it?
Hmmmmmm.... :)
