[livejournal.com profile] princessofg has posted some fascinating meta over in her LJ about the book Reading Stargate SG-1, edited by Lisa Dickson and Stan Beeler.

This post is about chapter 2 in the book, which discusses how SG-1 is "self-aware" of its status as a sci-fic show, and uses that awareness for its own benefit.

This one, however, is even more interesting to me: a generally positive essay about Sam, and how she's too often judged by her value as a feminist icon instead of her actual value as a character: "To examine every female character on the basis of whether or not she is a flawless feminist icon is to pre-condemn every character, because a character without flaws would be nothing more than an empty shell."

Take a look, folks. I think you'll enjoy it.

thank you very much! i created a tag just for this book. You'll be able to find all the chapters as I work through it, listed here. (http://princessofg.livejournal.com/tag/reading+sg1) If you're interested. And if you lose the link, my fic and meta tags are linked to on my user info page.

Thanks so much! This book is really good. I recommend spending the money on it, if one enjoys meta.

I also own "The Ultimate Visual Guide" by Ritter and I love that one too.

*cheers*
