So, this month's recs were both friendship categories: an old friend in Jack and Daniel, and the triumphant rescue from oblivion of Jack and Sam. I'd expected only to manage four stories in the latter category - it had taken me long enough to collect even that much! - but new stories helped add to the rec count. My special thanks to Aurora and Julie for linking me to their own suggestions.

The links below actually lead to the recommendations at the rec archive at [livejournal.com profile] figs_sg1_rec, but they were all posted first at [livejournal.com profile] stargateficrec, which is a marvelous resource and deserves everyone's participation and support.

The master list of fic recs has now been split in two because of LJ posting constraints: fics titled A-M here and fics titled N-Z here. I haven't updated it for several months, though, so if you're looking for the most recent recs, or want to search by character or genre, try [livejournal.com profile] figs_sg1_rec.

::nudge nudge::

C'mon. Go volunteer to do just four recs next month in [livejournal.com profile] stargateficrec. That's one a week! Make sure everyone else gets the chance to read your favorite fics. Here's where you go to volunteer, and here's the FAQ.

I did! I did! I volunteered! I'm easing into it with Jack/Daniel slash because that's my strongest comfort zone, but hope to branch out after I've gotten my feet wet.

Excellent! I don't suppose I'll be reading your recs ::settles gen glasses firmly in place:: but you'll discover how insidiously fun reccing can be. :)

Not a problem, we like what we like and that's about all there is to it. And, if this doesn't scar me for life, I'll be diving into the gen end of the pool before long.

Plus there are some 'other' cats that I think have been sadly neglected. I dug around in the tags list the other day when I volunteered (just wanted to make sure there was something left for me to offer :-) and kept noticing holes where tags should be.

Now, if only I could remember what they were. :-) (Damn middle age!)

Oh, gen is wonderful - open to everyone, with whatever subtext you care to read into what you're writing. And generally free of the anti-character bias you so often find when authors think X is interfering with their Y/Z OTP.

Tags can be a bit sketchy. The important thing to check out is the memories of whatever category you're reccing - even if a favorite of yours was recced in, say, Daniel Jackson, you'd be able to rec it in Episode Related or Angst or whatever as long as it's not in the memories for that particular category. I have discovered marvelous fics when they were recced in one category and rerecced them in a different category a few months down the line. Or there was the time when Abyssis and I had a good-natured squabble over who would get to rec a certain story first! She won. :) I still recced it in a different category, though - just not that same month.

A lot of people don't seem to realize this, so it always helps to repeat it - as long as the fic isn't listed in the memories of the actual category you're reccing, it's fair game.

Very cool.

And word to everything you said about gen. Even though I'm primarily a slash writer, I do enjoy writing (and reading) gen. It's fun to play with the different nuances of character interactions, not to mention how some themes work better in gen than slash (or ship, for that matter).
