These last two weeks have been insanely busy for me, and this week is too, which is why no recs or updates in the last while. On the other hand, [livejournal.com profile] redial_the_gate SQUEE!!!! Because this week is The Fifth Race, which is the best episode ever.

I got to do this week's recap, but I couldn't include the more subjective stuff, such as how much I love Jack and Daniel, and Jack and Teal'c, and Sam and Daniel, and Sam and Teal'c, and Daniel and Teal'c, and Sam and Jack, and really, the whole team in this one. Teamy goodness personified, which is why the ep is so fantastic. Plus we get superb Hammond and marvelous Janet and flustered Graham Simmons and Siler! For the win, all 'round.

I love how everyone expects Daniel to have all the answers. Jack comes charging in with Teal'c and demands that Daniel figure it all out, right now. And when Daniel and Janet are watching Jack start to draw the detailed diagram of the DHD, again, Janet expects Daniel to be able to explain exactly what's happening.

I love the teamy support, as Sam and Teal'c march determinedly through the Gate to find something to help Jack, and Teal'c is ready to go with him to a different galaxy, and Sam has the courage to warn Hammond not to send a rescue team and the wits to realize that Jack needs a GDO, and Daniel Daniel Daniel never leaving Jack's side, and abandoning the fascinating stuff in a heartbeat for the desperate search for something to save Sam and Teal'c.

...A little too subjective, you think, for a recap? :)

I also regretfully refrained from including all my favorite quotes, because the recap got way too long as it was. :) So here are some of my favorite lines from The Fifth Race:

Teal'c: I do not understand, O'Neill. Are we preparing to dance or to do battle? [moments later, calmly knocks Jack down with a single punch]

Jack: Well, apparently I have lost the falatus to speak properly! ...That wasn't a joke. I didn't do that on purpose.

Hammond: What are you doing?
Jack: I don't know, sir. You know me and computers.

Daniel: And bottom line, sir: what about Jack? I mean, right now I'm possibly his only hope for communicating on any kind of serious level. I can't leave him like this, and I won't.

Science guy: [vague techno-babble]
Hammond to Daniel: Do you understand what he said?
Daniel: It sounds like they have no idea.
Science guy: Well, actually, it's not "no idea," sir. Just... not much of one yet.
Siler: ...But we're working on it!

[later]

Daniel, dumping the mini-ZPM in front of the scientists: Here, you guys can work on this for a while.
Science guy: What is it?
Daniel, hurrying out of the room: No idea. Well, not "no idea," just not much of one yet, but work on it!

(Hee hee hee. And people say Daniel is a nice sweet people person...)

Teal'c, with his usual spare grace: I am sorry, O'Neill. We could not find a way to help you.

Graham Simmons: Chevron seven... is encoded?

Hammond, to a silent Jack: I'm just supposed to let you go?
Daniel, very quietly: He's already gone, General.

Teal'c: I will accompany you, O'Neill.

Graham Simmons: We've... lost the traveler.

Asgard: You have already taken the first steps towards becoming the Fifth Race.

Jack, to Daniel: You know that meaning of life stuff? I think we're going to be all right.

No Sam quotes, sadly, but that's because her fantasticness came through more in facial expressions and actions this time. Trust me, I loved her here, too!

I hope to have time to come online from time to time to respond to comments, here and at Redial. Other than that, I'll see you all next week. :)

Teamy goodness too subjective? Nah!

Signing up to do your recap the week of Passover was not the best scheduling decision was it? Aw. Missed you around online, fig, but hope you're having a wonderful holiday with loved ones.

See ya round the 'net! ;-)

(Hee hee hee. And people say Daniel is a nice sweet people person...)

Only because that gets him his way more often than not, I think. *grin* Snippy Daniel is one of my favorite things ever.

I was going to do the recap weeks in advance! It didn't quite work out that way, but that's no one's fault but mine. :)

Thanks for the good wishes! Wonderful and wonderfully busy, yes. :)

Snippy Daniel is one of my favorite things ever.

Daniel, period, is one of my favorite things ever. :)

I love the little hand wave Daniel does as he says, "Actually not 'no idea' just not much of one yet. Work on it." The way he delievers the snark with out even pausing in his walk out of the room makes me smile.

My favorite word of Ancient is also in this episode= Cruvus

I watched The Fifth Race over and over again before I caught it, because Daniel is so casual about it.

Dear snarky Daniel, how we love you. :)

Because this week is The Fifth Race, which is the best episode ever.

I definitely second that! Heee! I loved Jack's expressions as he tried to communicate without words. And he did a fairly good job of it, too. But I think that the part I love best is when he spoke slowly for Daniel to find the translations. They work so well together! :)

That episode is definitely up there among the top 10 on my list!!

Beautifully acted, yes. Jack says so much with just expressions. OTOH, from what I've heard of RDA (and what we know of his ad-libs!), just imagine how hard it was for him to stay quiet for so long. :)

(Love the moment when he turns his head and stares at those spindly legs and ankles!)

"Daniel: And bottom line, sir: what about Jack? I mean, right now I'm possibly his only hope for communicating on any kind of serious level. I can't leave him like this, and I won't."

Best Daniel line and beautifully delivered. This is a wonderous episode full of teamy goodness.

One of my very faves is how General Hammond turns to Daniel when he can't understand the science geeks.

Lots of great stuff here. But one thing always bugged me- I would have been just a smidge happier if all of SG-1, not just Teal'c, had tried to go with him.

General Hammond turns to Daniel when he can't understand the science geeks.

Hey, by now they think Daniel can translate *anything*. (And on some level? I think it tickles Daniel's ego and drives him on to solve even the toughest puzzles...)

There is nothing in this ep that isn't absolutely marvelous. :)

Oh, I don't know. Teal'c offered. Daniel thought Jack had to go alone, for some reason. And Sam is restrained by military protocol, AND she'd the one who came running to ask about the GDO. The teamy goodness was solid!

And LOL, yes - Daniel and Sam both are probably driven to find answers out of sheer habit. :)

For further proof of just how snide Daniel can be, cast your eyes upon "Message in a Bottle" when Daniel inadvertently (?) reveals Simmons crush on Sam...over the loudspeaker.....while they are recording the conversation. Pay special attention to Daniel's expression as he whispers "Oops", this is the younger brother ratting out his older sister to the parents and loving every minute of it.

That's an interesting take on it. This came up at [livejournal.com profile] redial_the_gate when [livejournal.com profile] nandamai recapped MiaB, and she had the same reaction - Daniel was embarrassing Simmons. I thought Daniel was focused more on teasing Sam rather than baiting Graham, but YMMV, obviously. :)
