Friendship ficathon, wheee! and eeeee!

The sg1friendathon fics are due in two more weeks, on June 2. That gives me feelings of both wheeee! and eeeeeee!, because at 4,000 words, I'm still not quite halfway there, and hoo boy is Random going to have a lot to do on this one!

Betas are the queens of fandom. I just think that needs to be said more often.

ETA: Whoops, forgot to ask: is there a Goa'uld term for the DHD, or should I just shamelessly steal Redbyrd's Skaara's term, which, IIRC, means something like "thing that goes with the chappa'ai"?

ETA2: Nope, not Redbyrd's, but Seanchaidh's, from part 3 of her Getting to Know You series:

"Well, Skaara did nickname it a raatan'ai," I admitted, "but I have no clue what the real name is..."

"Raw-what?" Jack frowned.

"What does that mean?" asked Sam, ever the curious.

"Um, 'little thing that goes with the Chaapa'ai,' actually."

Not really.

Well, not usually.

But right now, I totally do. I keep thinking I've got something I can spin into 1,000 words or more, get about halfway there...and discover that i hate everything I have just written and delete it and throw a tantrum. On the upside, more than one perfectly decent fic has come out of this type of process, so...hopefully this means I'll have something written by the end of the week.

Betas really do rock. I should line someone up for this fic pretty soon.

They'll get done. That's about all I can say at the moment. I agreed to pinch hit, and I love my second prompt which is going fine, but I looked back at some of my notes for my original prompt and said to myself 'gee, that looks like a familiar set of ideas,' and discovered I was using the same set of images, timing, etc. as for another unfinished fic. Oooops. So there is a certain amount of re-imagining going on Chez Lokei, but I think it will work out fine.

i have sketchy frames on which to hang things. right now, they are swinging in the breeze, but your 2 wk reminder made me sit down and make some of them into words. What I'm going to need when I am done is a beta willing to rip on it. To make sure it is precise and concise (my personal preference in my own writing). I'll just have to finish first so my ego can take the beating as my muse is a wimp.

Thankfully, mine are both done. And I actually did an extra scene for one because I thought a certain two characters had a shocking lack of scenes together.
I say thankfully because I am mired in the depths of a nasty writer's block and haven't been able to overcome it, hence my self declared moratorium on either reading or writing at this time. I won't touch anything I've written for fear I'll screw something up and reading other folks stuff just highlights how pathetic my current state is.
Which leads to a question. How can I send in my completed fics? I'd prefer not to post them on my lj before the due date.

Yeah, I did something like that last year. I was all pleased with the puzzle I worked out for Sam and Daniel to do together, and then I read the delightful fic that aurora_novarum wrote for my prompt, and I remember that I'd... asked for Sam and Daniel to work out a puzzle together. :)

Ah! Well, I'm honored to be confused with Seanchaidh :). Also glad to know I haven't lost my mind... more of my mind...*g*

Personally I suspect it's like there's no special name for the panel of buttons you use to call an elevator- they're part of the elevator and don't have a particular name, just 'buttons' or 'controls'. In the same way, a chappa'ai consists of the ring and the controls both. Because if there was a Goa'uld name for the DHD, Teal'c would certainly know it. (Okay, in ten years, it might not have come up...but my explanation works too.)

Glad to know it isn't just me! I had thought it was only going to be one point of view, and now it looks like it might be both Jack and Daniel--and I have gotten myself all turned around. I'm thinking standing on my head might help. *laugh*

I, um, looked through the prompts, had one bite me, wrote almost 4,000 words of an idea I liked and then realized they all sucked a whole lot.

And then I had my brain get eaten by replicators.

Sadly it looks like I still won't be playing.
