Just four days left to claim a prompt for the friendship ficathon at [community profile] sg1friendathon! I am so happy to see such enthusiastic beginnings - we've got 25 people signed up already! Is our fandom awesome or what?

I find writing trends so fascinating. When we last did this in 2008, I was very taken aback that Jack and Daniel friendship wasn't claimed at all (although happily, Magistrate did one prompt for the Frenzy). This year, Jack and Daniel friendship prompts went first - in fact, there were more Daniel friendship prompts claimed this time than any other. Interesting, that.

Now, any casual reader of this journal is well aware that I am a shameless Daniel fangirl :) and that I vastly prefer classic team to new team. And I am definitely happy in anticipating all the wonderful friendship fic that we'll be reading about my favorite archeologist and my favorite version of teamy goodness. Still, I think the newer team members deserve a little (gen) love, don't you? So if you're a Cam fan or a Vala fan, I do urge you to wander over to the sign-up post (on LJ only, so there won't be accidental multiple claims) and choose a Cam and Teal'c prompt. Or a Sam and Vala prompt. Or Cam and Sam, or Vala or Teal'c, or... well, you get the idea. :)

Mind you, if you choose a classic team prompt, I'll be pretty pleased with that, too...

Go. Find a prompt that sparks your imagination. And write!

(And many, many thanks to all you lovely people who have boosted the signal on this. It's very much appreciated.)

Anyone remember the [community profile] sg1friendathon? We had our first round back in 2008, with 23 gen friendship fics. Then, in 2011, we had 35 stories in the ficathon plus another 13 contributions to the Ficathon Frenzy.

Good times. :)

So, thanks to [personal profile] sg1jb innocently wondering if there were any comms out there for inspiring gen fic, we're going to have another round. Whee!

The comm will officially open up for prompts on Sunday, both on LJ and on DW. Signal boosts will be greatly appreciated. There's no obligation to sign up if you offer prompts, so let's get some great suggestions to inspire excellent friendship fic!

I do not have the words to describe how happy I've been with the success of this year's [community profile] sg1friendathon. Years into a closed canon, and we've had over 35 gen friendship fics posted throughout the month! SG-1 fandom, I salute you. :)

Now, my fic has been sitting quietly on my journal since July 31. Originally, Suzannemarie and I planned to insert our fics into the queue according to the same first-come, first-served as everyone else, but after some discussion, we decided that the mods should go last. So today, four weeks after I private-locked the entry and more or less forgot about it, I went back to unlock my story.

And then I remembered -- oh, yeah. I was going to get it betaed.

Oops, that. :)

I admit that I don't get a beta for every single story I write. But when the characters take over the story as emphatically as Daniel (and Teal'c, and a certain Leader) did in this fic, I do feel the need for a beta reader.

In this case, I simply forgot. And it seemed unfair to delay posting for the day or three it would take to find a beta, have it vetted, and then fix any mistakes. So I posted it as is.

You can find it here: Canis Major. It was supposed to be a light-hearted piece, and hopefully parts of it still are, but Daniel would insist on adding some angst into the mix, sigh.

Here's my request: while I always welcome constructive criticism (the old teacher in me has trouble with the word "concrit," I'm afraid), in this case I am particularly asking for it. I'll gladly take any pointers towards typos and grammatical errors, and happily debate characterization -- including Leader and his friends. :)

In any case, I hope you all enjoy the fic.

I know I've been pretty quiet lately aside from recs, but hey -- new ficathon to get off the ground, a Jewish holiday last week, finals time for the older kids -- it all eats up time!

So [community profile] sg1friendathon is now officially in writing time mode. Very excited to see so many participants in a GEN ficathon, whee! I'm used to being to my lonely perch in GenLand (up on the moon, according to Rigel) with my few fellow gen fans. It's enough to make this Benevolent Dicatatrix very happy. :)

If you haven't signed up yet, I hope you'll still consider it. Prompts may technically still be claimed up to July 31st, as long as you're willing to have 1,000 words written by August 1st, heh. I would particularly love to see Cam Mitchell and Janet Frasier get some attention! They've only each been claimed once so far. But with somewhere over 140 prompts still available, you can probably find something to suit your tastes.

MUCH YAY.

C'mon. Go sign up...

(Signups must be made on LJ to prevent multiple claims on the same prompt, but [community profile] sg1friendathon is right here too!)

::waves scepter of the realm of ship-free Stargate meaningfully::

Oh, and Beanpot and Annerb? There are prompts at that list (over 170 of them, whee!) that have your names on them!

So after last week's poll, we went live with [community profile] sg1friendathon! Yay! And I was so excited to spread the word that I, er, forgot to mention it here. Oops, that. :)

Right now, we're still in the looking for prompts stage. Anyone is welcome to submit prompts, even without any intention of joining the ficathon. So if you've got a friendship prompt that you've always wanted to see written, comment at this entry to submit it for inclusion into the ficathon. You can submit as many prompts as you'd like, and the comments are all screened -- the only ones who will know you submitted them are your friendly mods. Prompts can be submitted through Wednesday.

And please do boost the signal! Spread the words through your own journals, whether at LJ or at DW. The more prompts we get, the more likely we are to end up with some really great stories. :)

So way back in 2008, we had a ficathon over at [info]sg1friendathon: gen stories with an emphasis on friendship. We had twenty authors contributing twenty-three different stories, which is an excellent statistic for gen, let me tell you. :)

After a three-year hiatus, I'm considering another round. I am all too aware that many SG-1 fans have moved on to more current fandoms, but I hope that there are enough of you out there who are still interested enough to participate! [profile] suzannemarie will be joining me as your friendly neighborhood mod, and we're both looking forward to lots of new friendship fics.

I expect the majority of the action to take place on LJ -- sadly, the percentage of gen SG-1 fans that moved to DW is pretty low -- but I have created a mirror comm at [community profile] sg1friendathon here, for those who prefer not to use LJ at all. When the ficathon has reached its triumphant conclusion (I can dream, can't I?), a master list will be posted at both comms that includes links to both LJ and DW.

We'll begin with a poll to determine interest, ficathon type, and dates. Long-winded explanation of poll choicesunder the cut, which you can skip if you want. )

Please take the poll at ONE location only -- either here at DW or over at LJ -- so I can have a clear idea of the number. Thanks. :)

::runs around incoherently in circles::

ETA: And oh, yes: my own contribution is here. I've finally written Teal'c and Daniel friendship! Post-FIAD, so angst level at maximum. Random, as ever, is the best beta ever.

Finally, finally...!

I know (or at the very least, hope) that Random will tear this apart. But to have it done is an overwhelming relief, because Teal'c and Daniel would just. not. cooperate!

It amuses me that the - well, body of the fic is just over 1,000 words. That, however, does not take the 5,000 word prologue into account... :)

Now I get to write up the detailed explanation for how everyone should post their stories to the [livejournal.com profile] sg1friendathon next week! Also, Lokei has her gold star ficlet that thwapped me with a plot bunny. I have never found myself actually writing a story in order to fit Jack and Daniel's banter before, but apparently there's a first time for everything.

The [livejournal.com profile] sg1friendathon fics are due in two more weeks, on June 2. That gives me feelings of both wheeee! and eeeeeee!, because at 4,000 words, I'm still not quite halfway there, and hoo boy is Random going to have a lot to do on this one!

Betas are the queens of fandom. I just think that needs to be said more often.

How's your friendship ficathon story coming along? Comment here to commiserate or gloat or lend your moral support - or all three. :)

ETA: Whoops, forgot to ask: is there a Goa'uld term for the DHD, or should I just shamelessly steal Redbyrd's Skaara's term, which, IIRC, means something like "thing that goes with the chappa'ai"?

ETA2: Nope, not Redbyrd's, but Seanchaidh's, from part 3 of her Getting to Know You series:

"Well, Skaara did nickname it a raatan'ai," I admitted, "but I have no clue what the real name is..."

"Raw-what?" Jack frowned.

"What does that mean?" asked Sam, ever the curious.

"Um, 'little thing that goes with the Chaapa'ai,' actually."

Bad Fig Newton! No biscuit! I confused the two marvelous fill-in-the-blank episode rewrites that I've recced in the past: Redbyrd's Setting Up House was recced here, and Seanchaidh's Getting to Know You was recced here.

::nudges flist::

Today is the last day of claims week over at [livejournal.com profile] sg1friendathon. Go and claim a prompt! I will never complain about too much Daniel fic :) but all but three of the claimed prompts (including the one I took, heh) involve our favorite archeologist. I would like to see some of the squee spread out to other characters, too.

Please post a reminder to your own LJs so that we get as many and as varied claims as possible. [livejournal.com profile] sg1friendathon! 1,000 words due by June 2. C'mon, you know it'll be fun... :)

::collapses::

I think I got rid of all the typos and annoying coding gratuitiously by my stupidity of creating the list in Word.

Go here to see the master prompts list for the [livejournal.com profile] sg1friendathon!

(But if you wait until you've finished writing whatever you're doing for SG-1 Gen Fic Day, I won't mind. Really. Because in some ways, my timing is seriously awful.)

Would anyone believe me if I said I really didn't plan to be doing so much at once? I'm not the one who chose the dates for the ficathon - the voters on the poll did! And I certainly can't move my rec anniversary date just because it's the same week as the ficathon, right?

Right?

::shuffles feet::

Ah, well. Excessive squee is never a bad thing. :)

So, reminders:

[livejournal.com profile] sg1friendathon is still taking prompts. Submitting fic prompts does not obligate you to sign up to write a story - all it means is that someone might end up being inspired by your suggestion! And hey, we've got icons, whee! One for classic team, one for new team, and one for secondary characters. Free for the snagging, if you've got space for extras!

SG-1 Gen Fic Day is next Wednesday, April 2nd. On that day, there will be an open post here, for submitting links to new fic or WIPs, comment fic, or recs for gen stories. Anything goes, as long as it's SG-1 and gen! And because I really am that insane :) we're also having a Daniel-style Alphabet Soup for SG-1 Gen Fic Day - 26 different ficlets, minimum 100 words each, due on Wednesday. There's still plenty of letter available, so go sign up!

And spread the word to your own flists - the more squee, the better!

A look at the numbers shows that most people prefer an open pool of prompts to a traditional ficathon, so we'll be throwing the door open to prompts on March 23 - 31. On April 1st, the claims post will go live. Then you'll have until June 1st to write that friendship fic!

Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] uniquinum, who will be joining me as mod for the ficathon. Hopefully, we won't make too many mistakes along the way. :)

[livejournal.com profile] sg1friendathon will be quiet over the next month, but you're welcome to start watching it now.  :) Sometime in mid-March, we'll post an FAQ that includes the ficathon rules. Comment here if you've got any questions before that time.

And spread the word, please! I think this will be a lot of fun!

ETA: Oooh! Leapgate is live! Go sharpen your writing skills and wallow in the squee. :)

There's still time to check out the what kind and when poll for the SG-1 friendship ficathon! There's no commitment if you vote, although I will assume that you're at least vaguely interested. :)

The current numbers suggest that we'll probably have an open prompts pool, with prompts submitted in the last week of March and claimed in the week of April. Stories would be due June 1st. That might still change, of course...

And don't forget to leave prompts for Leapgate and spread some anonymous love at [livejournal.com profile] beanpot's hurray for fandom post! And there's [livejournal.com profile] rolleson's ongoing Sam Carter Drabble-a-thon, too.

Isn't SG-1 fandom great? :)

So, the results of the first tentative poll are mostly positive:

SG-1 Friendship Ficathon?

The next step is to determine what kind of ficathon we're going to do, and when we're going to have it.

What kind we're going to do: )

When we're going to do it: )

This way to the poll! )

I've created the [livejournal.com profile] sg1friendathon community, and you're more than welcome to join there if you'd like! :) And if anyone with talent in banners or icons would like to suggest anything for the comm, I'd be delighted. And please, spread the word to your own flists - we want as much SG-1 friendship love as we can get!
