October: Sha're Recs, Fandom, Fics (and icons)

Here's the October roundup for the Realm of Ship-Free Stargate! You'd think it would be briefer than usual, given that I've only been around for ten days or so this month, but nooooooo. :)

Sha're recs

With limited time available, I took only one category this month in stargateficrec: my lovely leading lady, Sha're. There is never, ever enough fic about this wonderful woman, and too much of what's out there depicts her as a doting, submissive innocent. Hah. The fics recced below, in my admittedly-biased opinion, are the ones that get her right. Two gen, two Daniel/Sha're - which brings my total count of ship fic recs up to fifteen. (We'll be hitting 400 recs first thing next month, yay!)

The links below actually lead to the recommendations at the rec archive at figs_sg1_rec, but they were all posted first at stargateficrec, which is a marvelous resource and deserves everyone's participation and support.

fandom

Busy, busy! apocalypse_kree officially closed on September 30th, but there are several new fics there. galpalficathon is going live in a few more weeks, on November 16th. sg_betty has a fantastic idea for a gen ficathon of her own - I'm looking forward to seeing that become a reality!

...Oh, yeah. And we had SG-1 Gen Fic Day, complete with Jack Alpha-Bits. ;)

Speaking of which, aurora_novarum, it's high time you got that Sam and Jack friendship ficathon off the ground! More on that in a separate post.

fics (and icons)

I didn't have much time to write this month, although I hope to have some Daniel meta based on New Ground posted at redial_the_gate by tomorrow. I did manage two short Jack ficlets, though:

B is for Blood. Dark, creepy, and horribly canon. Jack's mind fragmenting in Abyss. My first PG-13 rated fic, I think.

U is for Undomesticated Equines. In happy contrast, some light and fluffy Jack and Teal'c friendship, in the wake of Point of No Return. Rated G.

The Fall Fandom Free-For-All ends today, sadly, although people are still encouraged to finish or fufill any requests that are still out there! In a feeble effort to thank all the generous people who granted my own requests (I wrote one fic in September, but that didn't seem like enough), I tried my hand at icons. Specifically, by request, of Sam and Kawalsky (or Sam/Kawalsky, eep!). Go here if you'd like to take a look.

I am still thinking about that Sha're fic I promised you. I have the words and the will and now am just working on time with the word processor. *grin*

I said earlier I was going to take some months off from stargateficrec and then I didn't...but I really do have to this month! I will be back, however. In a non-terminator fashion.
