I have the immense privilege of tagging for [livejournal.com profile] sg1_debrief, which mostly entails skimming through the newsletter's flist in search of gen fic. (The maintainers do the really hard work, and I think the other taggers cope with a lot more volume than I do.) There's always less gen fic than ship fic, but I'm resigned to that as par for the course by now.

But what's going on here, people?

Since the 17th, there has been one gen fic posted throughout all of LJ SG-1 fandom that gets tagged for the newsletter. ONE. (Thanks for that, [livejournal.com profile] dknightshade! I don't follow the [livejournal.com profile] jack_built AU, but it was a fun snippet.)

So here's my appeal: write some gen fic today, please! It can be commentfic posted here, or a drabble on your LJ, or a snippet of your current WIP. Fic recs are good, too, like the ones posted below: here and here. Anything. Gen is the one kind of fic that embraces all aspects of the fandom, so let's have some SG-1 love!

Erm... but not that kind. :)

[And yes, I'll try to post something ficcish myself today. I can't ask for it if I don't chip in myself, right?]

ETA8: Monday, 6:45 p.m. ::smushes all ETAs together:: I've compiled a roundup of all the fantastic participants! You can find the complete list for Gen Fic Day right here.

This won't be super fantastic, but....

----------------------

Teal'c stopped for what seemed like the hundredth time in the past twenty minutes. Daniel supposed that everything must seem so new and exciting for him given the fact he was, well, new on Earth.

"It's a grocery store," Jack said. "Not Disneyland."

"For Teal'c, it probably is Disneyland." Daniel slowed the cart and waited for Teal'c to move.

"I'd rather be at Disneyland," Sam said with a sigh.

Daniel wasn't sure he agreed with Sam on this one, but at any rate, being somewhere aside from the market sounded appealing to him.

"We must purchase this," Teal'c said, grabbing a box off the shelf.

"What is that?" Jack took the box from his hands. "Lucky Charms?"

"I have been informed they are magically delicious."

Daniel nearly choked on air. "Uh, Teal'c, you realize it's not real magic."

"It does not matter."

"There are a ton fo preservatives in this." Now Sam was reading the box.

"Look, if he wants his Lucky Charms, he'll get his Lucky Charms," Jack said and placed it in the cart. "It can't be any worse that your Coco Puffs."

"Brain food," Sam said.

"You should talk, Jack. I've seen you with Fruit Loops."

"Good source of calcium," Jack muttered. "Better than all those candies you hoard in your drawer."

Daniel narrowed his eyes. "How do you know what's in my drawer?"

"Can't we think about Teal'c here?" Jack nudged Daniel away from the cart.

Daniel shrugged and went to the shelves lined with cereal boxes. he'd never really understood the appeal of them. While he supposed a child could appreciate the aesthetic of the cartoon characters, as well as the sugar, Daniel never really could get past the taste. He grabbed one of the boxes and flipped it over, studying the puzzle on the back.

"You cannot take this food." Teal'c grabbed the box from Daniel's hands and handed it to a startled child who happened to be passing by. He eyed SG-1 sternly. "Trix are for children."

Sam and Daniel blinked at him. Jack quickly steered Teal'c away from any more kids.

"Okay, what's next?" Jack asked.

Teal'c checked his list. "I wish to see the frozen items."

"Frozen foods it is." He waved at Sam and Daniel to follow. "Let's go."

Daniel sighed. It was going to be a long night.
