Happy Gen Fic Day, everybody!
Reply to this entry with commentfic, drabbles, links to new works or WIPs, fic recs, and meta - anything, as long as it's gen and SG-1.
Confused? See the Gen Fic Day index for previous events!
Since there's no Alphabet Soup this time, I'm asking for some comprehensive reccing, instead. (Aside from all the new fic you've all written, heh.) All recs are welcome, of course, but I am specifically asking that everyone try to comment with two recs: an old friend that you love to reread over and over again, and shameless self-promotion of one of your own fics, with a sentence or two as a teaser. I'm not asking for your personal favorite (I know how impossible that is!); rather, I'd like to see people rec a personal fic that you think readers will enjoy. I'll start off the comments below myself, to serve as an example.
This post will remain open for submissions until Tuesday morning my time, which is midnight or so on the West Coast in the States. After that, I'll post a second entry to round up all the contributions into a coherent whole, including all those personal recs with teaser lines.
Spread the word! Write! Post! Comment! Squee! Have fun. :)
ETA, because it's apparently necessary: of course I don't mind new people wandering in to join us! The more gen squee, the better. :)

Heroes: the Story of the SGC (http://www.stargatefan.com/fictionms/HeroesFix.htm) (by Purple Shrub)
This "Heroes" fix delves into details that the episode didn't or couldn't cover more fully, including Sam's reaction to being accused of sleeping with her boss and the ethical implications of hiding scientific discoveries. It seems more realistic than the episode to me without losing any of the gravity.
"Broken Dreams, Shattered Memories" series (http://www.geocities.com/celtic_mysts/Beyond_Blue.html) (by Kerri)
The story of how a descended Daniel regains his memories.
Shameless Self-Promotion
Translations (http://night-spear1287.livejournal.com/9339.html) and sequels
"Sir," Jack said, "I regret to inform you that Claire and Melburn Jackson were killed in the attack on Abydos. They are survived by their son, Daniel, who was kidnapped by the aliens, along with two of the native Abydons."
These are the only fics I've written in this universe so far, so... The "Daniel of Abydos" AU series assumes Daniel's parents opened the Stargate fifteen years ago and that he was born on Abydos. Apophis attacks his home when he's fourteen, the Abydos 'gate is buried, and he ends up stranded on Earth but determined to join the SGC's cause.
