Alphabet Soup is a series of multiple-author anthologies, organized and hosted on this journal.

Each anthology includes twenty-six (or more) SG-1 ficlets on a specific character or theme. Stories are canon-compliant and gen. To date, over 130 different authors have contributed their wonderful stories! Subject matters range from episode-related to pre-series to post-series to fluff to action to angst to humor to character study and back again.

Each ficlet is a minimum of 100 words; most are under 1,000 words, although we've also had 10,000+ ones. In earlier Soups, shorter ficlets are included in full at the main page, with links to the author's own LJ for feedback whenever possible. Longer ficlets are excerpted, with links to the author's own LJ (or archive) for the rest of the story. Beginning with Janet Alphabet Soup, the unabridged anthologies have been posted in full here at DW. Beginning with Off-World Alphabet Soup, a table of contents was created for each anthology; the TOCs exist both on LJ and on DW, but the Soup itself is solely on Dreamwidth.

Feedback to individual authors is very strongly encouraged!

SG-1 Gen Fic Day started on October 21st, 2007. As Benevolent Dictarix of the Realm of Ship-Free Stargate (don't look at me - [livejournal.com profile] kalquessa came up with that title!), I was frustrated by the general dearth of gen fanfic and made an appeal to my flist. They responded with their usual grace, generosity, and style, and Gen Fic Day was proclaimed a smashing success!

There is no real schedule for Gen Fic Days, although they seem to occur every three months or so. Several have featured Alphabet Soup ficlets in addition to stand-alone fics, WIPs, and recs.

Anyone is welcome to participate - and, of course, write gen fic at any other time they please! :)
