I just posted my 50th fic to AO3, starting from back in 2007 with my very first SG-1 story and going forwards, one fic a day (more or less) at a time. I'm only halfway through 2009 now. Good grief, I used to be prolific.

It's been an interesting experience so far. I am charmed by the statistics page and it's interesting to see how some fics are better received now than when they were first posted (and vice versa). Getting kudos e-mails are fun, because I can tell when one person is browsing through my stories, and it's certainly a nice way to start my morning. :) I can't make up my mind about kudos themselves; are they a plus, because it's nice feedback that you wouldn't get otherwise? Or a minus, because less people bother with actual comments? Or a combination of both, which is probably the reality.

Also, old friends rereading my old stories and commenting on occasion are an absolute joy.

In any case, it's nice to reach a milestone like 50. :) My next fic up will be on Sunday, and that will be my stargate_summer fic and I am SO EXCITED to have written something new and substantive, finally.

If you're a fan of old skool SG-1 fic, you might want to check out The Tablet, as Jb has informed me that it won't be around much longer. Many of the authors hosted there have moved on to AO3, but there are also fics there that might not be available after the site goes down in a few months.

The Tablet was one of the first SG-1 fic sites that I discovered, back in the day. Daniel-centric, lots of drama, very good authors. Mostly gen, with a side serving of "zipfic" which slews sideways, just a bit. :)

Good grief, I did not post a monthly review all year. Probably because there wasn't much to review, sigh.

So, 2016:

29 recs, which you can browse on the first two pages of figs_sg1_rec. That brings to 1,044 in just over ten years - yes, that was a milestone for this year: ten years of reccing, as of April 1st, 2016. I celebrated, so to speak, by highlighting some (but certainly not all!) of the best over the years. You can browse through some 110 recs with the ten years of reccing tag.

Two Alphabet Soups, Epistolary and Kidfic. Good thing, too, because I probably wouldn't have written anything otherwise. Here's what I did write:

Lost Letters. Letters don't always survive long enough to be read. References/spoilers for Secrets, Fair Game, and Forever in a Day; includes references to Daniel/Sha're. 1,330 words. Rated PG.

Camouflage. Appearances can be deceiving, as the team knows all too well. Includes some unexpected Jack angst. ~1,200 words. PG.

T is for Teal'c. Few people expect the former First Prime to be so good with children, but SG-1 knows that Teal'c has vast and unexpected depths. A Daniel retrospective on a friend. References various episodes throughout the series (mostly those with kids). 1,710 words. Rated PG.

O is for Other Perspectives. Five times SG-1 had to accept an unusual perspective of childhood and adulthood. Jack POV, set in Seasons 1 & 2. Includes detailed spoilers for Brief Candle, the Nox, and Thor's Chariot. 2,250 words. Rated PG-13 for certain details involving Brief Candle.

Z is for Zen. Last-minute contribution to Kidfic Alphabet Soup. Baby Shifu has a limited comprehension of what's happening to him. Vague references to Secrets, FIAD, and Maternal Instinct. 262 words. Rated G.

I have hopes for 2017, though, as I've signed up for stargate_summer and it's high time for another round of sg1friendathon...

As I keep saying, this is getting harder and harder: avoiding authors I've recced before, when there are already over 90 that have been cited in previous installments. I would browse the archive and light upon a particular fic, then check back and see the author has been mentioned before... The first two months only had one rec that wasn't from an author I've recced already! It doesn't help that it was around this point when my reccing frequency slowed down, either. 2014 was the year of lots and lots of short fics for me. Here are the links to a few of them:

For Want of a Symbiote (the World was Lost). Sam's choices in In the Line of Duty had tremendous impact on the universe. 464 words. Rated PG, with multiple AU deaths and apocalyptic histories, and spoilers for various S2 through S6 episodes.

X is for Unknown. A tag for 1969 for Episode Alphabet Soup. When SG-1 returns to their own time, they try to find out what happened to Michael and Jenny. Rated G.

One Minute to Curtain. Jack will do his duty, even if he hates playing the game. Jack's thoughts on his team in Shades of Grey. 555 words, rated PG.

2012 is when my fic writing began to slow down. There's a drabble series that still isn't finished, sigh. But here are a few stories I wrote:

O is for Optimism. Cam has always been an optimist; it's kept him going for a long time now. But sometimes, he needs a little proof. Major spoilers for Continuum, including AU canon character deaths, and a certain episode in S2. 1,290 words. Rated PG.

V is for Victuals. Aliens, civilians, military personnel -- they all need feeding. That's Sophie's job, and she's proud to do it. No real spoilers. 510 words. Rated G.

I've dealt with any errors that were reported by various authors, and the Table of Contents are now up: on LJ and on DW. Whee!

If you're signal-boosting, direct people to one of the TOCs, please. And authors, please edit your stories to include links to the TOC as well.

I will ask everyone again to quickly check out their own fic: ensure that the TOC and the feedback links in the anthology go to link you want and that I haven't messed up any of the HTML anywhere.

A few interesting statistics:

Stories range in length from 200 words to over 15,000.

We have all sorts of kidfic flavors: nine "downsizing" stories, seven pre-series of team members are children, four fics of the team dealing with children, and five fics told from the perspective of children (ranging from Cassie to Shifu to Adria to kid!Tok'ra). Also, one of mine that doesn't actually fit into any category. ;) I am really happy that we got such a variety!

Once again, my thanks to all the participants. I do regret that we only managed 19 authors in total, which meant that many of us ended up writing multiple stories (very, very much appreciated!), but YAY for moar gen fic. Let's hope that the next Soup, in 2017, will see more authors joining in the squee! :D
